  • "Lovely little cottage with gorgeous double bedrooms and lovely shower."

Great that it was dog friendly however the garden is literally 1 metre wide with a drop to a creek below so not ideal as has to take the dog across the road and to the field to go to the loo. Kitchen hob didn’t work - advised Sykes but got to reply. Luckily we were eating out but would’ve been nice to have had a cooked breakfast. Shower room lovely however blind tied in place so unable to lower over the window. Windows unable to open down stairs so wasn’t well ventilated. Nice and quiet though.

  • "High quality appliances."

Well decorated. Limited clothes storage or hanging space. A fantastic and comfortable cottage.

Thank you so much for you kind comments about Ruby’s. They are hugely appreciated. We hope to be able to welcome you there again soon. Best wishes The Melia Family Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short and left 3 days early."

The property’s condition and cleanliness were shocking and despite trying hard to get used to it we couldn’t manage to stay there the whole week. The cottage is very worn out, neglected and simply put dirty. Kitchen is falling apart with cutlery drawer only opening half way through with- even that with great noise and effort! Sofas and all soft furnishing dirty that we had to put spare bedding sheets over it so that we could sit down and relax at the end of the day. Left over food everywhere including freezer and cupboards… Under the stairs cupboard with washing machine and hoover - all so dirty that you’d rather not go near it. Cobb webs everywhere - and I mean in very visible places Having read through some previous reviews it seems like the owner simply does not care as issues pointed out by previous guests still exist. Needless to say- very overpriced. Area itself is lovely- but that’s the Lake District in general Had knocks on doors from ‘travellers’ as area flooded by them camping 2 min walk away from the cottage; annual thing around this time, I’ve learnt, due to horse show taking place this weekend… again would be nice if this was mentioned on the advert; certainly not a relaxing environment to be in getting knocks on a door from strangers. Pluses- Beds were very comfortable Texted numbers provided on leaving- stating my disappointment and early leave - got the response from caretaker to say she will pass it onto the owner- however no sign of good gesture to at least partially compensate for the ruined holiday.

  • "We had a lovely week in Rose cottage."

Perfect place for access to Kendal and surrounding areas. The bed was absolutely amazing and had some of the best night sleeps I’ve had in months! What I would say is, the kitchen is looking a little sad and in need of some love. Apart from that we would very much recommend and would love to come back and visit again.

  • "Lovely cottage - had everything we could need."

oh my days .... that duvet - lovely and snuggle on a snowy cold winters night. Lovely log burner, only needed to be lit for a couple of hours each night, the cottage kept lovely and warm. (appliance instruction manuals could do with being updated tho) Great base for the lakes and North Yorkshire.

  • "Great cottage in a great location."

There isn't an enclosed space to exercise your dog but that wasn't an issue as there were plenty of places nearby to walk. We wouldn't hesitate to return to Sedburgh and Ruby's Cottage.

  • "Rubys cottage is a lovely cute but functional little place."

The village is lovely with lots to do. It is quiet, very clean and well looked after. Nice food and drinks available at several places. The people are very friendly and the children are most polite. I will definitely return as it’s one of the most relaxed holidays I’ve had in a long time. Loved every minute of it and felt very at home at Ruby’s cottage.

  • "Excellent position to access town and fantastic walks."

We didn’t need to use the car as there was plenty of walks to choose from, however we did to explore other areas. The town it self we would definitely return to as had plenty to offer in the way of essential shops and eateries. The cottage was comfortable enough, just slightly disappointed that there was no nice outside seating to enjoy G&Ts after a good day out! The rear offered no pleasant seating and dropped steep to stream. The front seat was not ideal either as the outlook was our parked car! Shame. The bathroom radiator is not working which would have been useful to have on as when the temperature dropped. Overall we had a good stay and not a lot to grumble about!

  • "Very limited parking, described as dog friendly but didn't think it was."

When opening the back door you had no more than 4 feet before there was a sheer drop down to a stream, not good!!

  • "Although cottage says dog friendly it doesn't explain steep drop to stream at the back and straight out on to a busy road at the front which was a little disappointing for letting our dog out."

    Otherwise a lovely little cottage.

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 12 miles; Hawes 15 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
