  • "Unfortunately we had a problem with the hot water system which left us without hot water to the sinks in the en-suites and the shower in one of them."

With it being a bank holiday, it took 4 days to rectify the problem. It should be emphasised in the listing that the East Wing is totally unsuitable for the disabled or persons with walking difficulties due to stairs access. Although the surrounding grounds and the views are outstanding and meticulously maintained, there is no allocated area to enjoy a glass of wine and outdoor dining on a warm summer evening. (there is one provided for the Garden Cottage and a small shaded area in front of the main entrance is allocated for the East Wing with some furniture - well beyond it’s sell by date) Apart from the above points the accommodation could not be faulted and is highly recommended.

Although our boiler is regularly serviced and maintained it did develop a completely unforeseen fault at the beginning of your stay. Unfortunately being a bank holiday it did not get repaired until the Tuesday morning and we are sorry you had this experience although you were very understanding of the circumstances. East Wing is a first and second floor apartment so it is assumed that guests will be ok using stairs. The Garden Apartment below is all ground level and would be more suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The outside seated area for East Wing has traditional furniture with cushions provided. It is a sheltered “sun trap” that gets afternoon and evening sun and has been much enjoyed by our guests over the years. Unfortunately the weather during your stay did not allow for this! We do try to make everyone's stay at Geltsdale a thoroughly enjoyable experience but sometimes things can happen that are beyond our control! Property Owner

With many country walks around the village and just a short stroll to the village shop, cafe, pub and restaurant we found Geltsdale the perfect location to experience village life for a few days.

The East Wing is situated in a peaceful and private spot where we enjoyed seeing the far-reaching view and wildlife in the grounds. The apartment is well equipped and tastefully decorated with all of the amenities you could require. Would definitely return and highly recommend.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at Geltsdale East Wing."

The property was stunning with gorgeous views and was very well equipped. It was lovely watching the deer play on the grounds and we found a lovely place by the river near by that we were able to sit by whilst the kids played in the water. There is a little park only 5 minutes walk which the kids enjoyed although most days were spend venturing around places like Kendal, Keswick, Windermere etc. There is a Tesco and co op only a short drive away which was handy. We cooked most evenings and found the kitchen had everything we needed and there was a washing machine and dryer which we found very handy with staying a week with 3 children. However we did find the washing machine detergent compartments were very very dirty due to mould build up. I did give it a good clean as best I could but suggest the owners keep an eye on this in the future. The accommodation was very tidy and for the most part nice and clean but we found places like the bathroom floors and tiles could do with a deep clean. Apart from that we couldn’t fault our stay and would definitely return again in the future.

Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased you found the cottage ideally based to explore the Lake District and Cumbria. We will certainly keep an eye on the washing machine drawer now we are aware of the issue and have addressed the floors. David and Julia Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful week at Geltsdale East Wing."

The property was very good, the decor exceptional. Lovely kitchen which was very well equipped. Julia was very friendly and welcoming. It was so nice to be able to wander about the grounds and we saw deer and a fox. Slight problem with the plumbing which the owners had fixed as soon as they could. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars was that the showers were not brilliant and the hot water was a very slow in the kitchen. But neither was a problem. I would definitely recommend to others.

Thank you Nicola , Pleased you enjoyed your stay and location . We will look to upgrade the showers as agreecthe water pressure is sometimes not strong enough . Property Owner

  • "The setting is superb, we loved watching the sunrises and the deer in the mornings."

I loved the new kitchen and decor in most of the rooms. The large tv was great for watching films at night. If planning to eat in one of the three village establishments I recommend phoning ahead, we very nearly had to do a quick supermarket run on our last evening! I would definitely recommend Wetheral and Geltsdale East Wing.

Linda , thank you for a great review !! We have refurbished the Cottage with new kitchen , pleased you like it and upgraded the tv in lounge and kitchen . Hope to see you again at Geltsdale Property Owner

  • "From the moment we arrived in this spacious apartment we relaxed."

The well equipped accommodation delivered on all counts, enabling us to enjoy much needed family time. We loved the view and the grounds and waking every morning with anticipation as to what wildlife we would see - deer, foxes and numerous birds. We left knowing that there was more to discover. A great position for visiting Keswick, Ullswater and the Northern Lakes and for venturing into Carlisle or along Hadrian’s Wall. This is most definitely a place that we will return to.

  • "Accommodation was set in a wing of a lovely country house with glorious gardens."

Decor was up to hotel standards, although it could do with a touch up or deep clean in a few parts. The bedrooms were excellent, although the bunk room was very narrow. There were really good amenities in and outside the house; for example, badminton rackets and dvds were provided. The accommodation was quite spacious and very quiet, while the views to the rear were superb. We didn't realise just how pretty Wetheral would be. It's a very good base for exploring Hadrian's wall, Carlisle and northern Lake District. Please note that, despite what earlier reviews say, the house does not come with a free pass to a local swimming pool. We paid for this separately and it was extremely expensive - as were the local post office and eating places.

Thank you for your feedback and for staying at our cottage, we are pleased you enjoyed your holiday. As owners we do pride ourselves on our standards and we regularly upgrade our cottages at the end of the season, this cottage has some decorating scheduled for later in the year. Unfortunately the local hotel stopped providing leisure passes for cottages in 2016 and we have therefore been unable to provide this service since then. We hope we can welcome you back again in the future. David and Julia Property Owner

  • "It was a great place to stay."

We were able to watch deer, rabbits & pheasants from the windows and also to take walks around the grounds & village. The apartment is well set up and decorated & we were very comfortable. The only thing I would emphasise is that there are two flights of stone steps to reach the apartment’s door so make sure all are able to climb them. There’s no lift as it’s a very old house. Beautiful place and no problems with any of the facilities. Thanks

  • "We have stayed in this property in the past."

It is a wonderful property with a beautiful backdrop of the hills. It gives access to Northumbria, Lake District, Scottish Borders, Howgills and the Yorkshire Dales which are all a walkers paradise. My main comment about the apartment is that it really needs a "facelift" by being decorated plus some of the carpets particularly the dining area either need cleaning or replacing, likewise sofas were badly stained. Our last stay here was in 2013 and nothing appears to have been replaced/cleaned. The bedroom furniture had tea stains spilled down the front. Whoever does the cleaning for this property needs to give it a "good fettle" as we say in Yorkshire. Although my comments may appear disparaging, it would not stop me from staying here again and I would recommend to others. However, I don't expect to have to start cleaning immediately on arrival when on my holidays.

  • "We loved the facilities provided, the views, garden and situation were very good."

We felt that the kitchen and especially the sitting room were rather tired and the sofas and carpets were needing some tlc. It appears a family were occupying the East Wing for quite a while, which may be the reason. We did not realise their were so many steps to the apartment. All in all though we found our stay comfortable and would if possible choose the garden apartment for a preference for us in any future visits. Thank you.
