  • "Excellent cottage in a lovely location."

Very well equipped and comfortable. One small point. Parking is restricted and would be helped with some slabs to stop you stepping into mud.

  • "We have stayed in this property previously and again did not disappoint, the cottage was warm and cosy on arrival, really clean and it is well equipped, idea base with lots of lovely walks on the doorstep, close to Penrith."

We would truly recommend this cottage for a relaxing and quiet holiday. We will be back again soon, thank you

  • "This is a fantastic little cottage in a lovely village with sheep in the field opposite which I loved."

Parking it on the road but it’s not busy so always a parking space outside the cottage. The front garden is secure for dogs we took our cockapoo Riley he loved it. The only negative if you call it that was the back garden has a thoroughfare through it but honestly it didn’t bother us at all. We was there 3 nights & only saw the lady coming to feed & collect the eggs from the hens that live there 2. Don’t let this put you off !!!! The cottage was one of the cleanest I’ve ever stayed in and had all the extra facilities to have a very pleasant stay. Hot water was plentiful. The furnishings were lovely especially the bedroom so cosy. The cottage was very warm alongside lighting the log burner on a night time which was so welcoming after a long walk with the dog. There is a lovely pub in the village that does lovely food but unfortunately it was closed the 3 nights we were there but good reviews in book. Thanks again for a lovely stay. The only thing I would say is take some bird seed there are so many different varieties of birds & if you’re like me love watching them there aren’t any feeders to enjoy watching them on. But that’s just me !!!

  • "Rose Cottage is a beautiful place well situated in the village."

Ideal base for a stay, the cottage was clean and comfy. The kitchen is well equipped, spacious. It had everything you could need, the rear yard was perfect for dinning outside and is perfect for a dog. It felt like home from home, Parking outside the cottage is great with further parking if needed just a little further into the village. Everyone was so friendly in the village, we will be returning. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Really pleased you had a good stay in our cottage - your feedback is important to ensure we keep Rose cottage to a high standard and it would be so nice to welcome you back / again thank you Property Owner

only minor point is the lack of a washing machine, however there is a laundrette in Appleby. the cottage is in such a beautiful area with stunning scenery and walks from the doorstep. all good.

Hello and yes we would really like to welcome you back again - you have obviously found some of our favourite walks ! We had to make the decision between washer and dish washer and dishwasher won! But take on board your comments Property Owner

Everything we needed for our stay was provided, and it felt really luxurious and a real treat to stay. Really dog friendly with a blanket and bowls - our dog felt very welcome too! Kings Meaburn is a gorgeous village with some lovely walks straight from the front door. Parking was fine with one space right at the door and friendly neighbours guided us as to where best to leave the second car of our party. We’re already planning to return next year! Loved it!

Hello thank you so much for such lovely words following your stay at our cottage -we want the cottage to be warm and welcoming and so pleased that this was what you experienced -I agree about the dog walks and the whole area is just delightful for our four legged friends -we would love to welcome you back and again thank you Property Owner

  • "Hi, Excellent facilities and really enjoyed the stay."

Thought and care have gone in to every room. My only comment would be that parking in front of cottage is difficult and risky, some form of parking bay , Ideally tarmac & marked to alleviate this risk would really help! Kind regards, Jim

Hi thank you for your feedback we always value our guests comments - we are unable to tarmac the area you mentioned as this not part of our property however we have tried to improve this whilst balancing that Kings Meaburn is a small village and the country feel is important to this. So pleased you enjoyed your stay though and thank you again Property Owner

We would of loved it to have a washing machine (just because of how long we were there for, dog towels needed washing as it was very muddy weather) but understand the dishwasher won. I would 100% recommend this property to other people and hopefully we can return one day!

  • "Really lovely cottage, well equipped, very welcoming and homely."

The bed was very comfy and loved the softness of the towels. Neighbour was very friendly and offered suggestions on days out, we went on the train to Settle after talking to them and had a lovely day. We were very pleased we were able to book an extra night as we felt so at home we didn't want to leave. The Dogs loved lying in front of the fire after a busy day. We are definitely hoping to return again. The pub that is in the listings was closed unfortunately but that can't be helped. Could you let the owners know the toilet seems to be on constantly running through and the radiator in the living room didn't work, wasn't a problem for us but thought they would like to know. Thank you for such a lovely place to stay.

Thank you so much for your review and we were glad to be able to accommodate an extension to your holiday and would love to welcome you back . Everyone is hoping the village pub will open soon , although there are some other really delightful local pubs. We are instigating the toilet and radiator to be looked at this week so thank you for letting us know Property Owner

  • "A great holiday cottage in a beautiful area with friendly neighbours."

thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again. Only suggestion is to have a fold up airer to dry wet coats etc, we got soaked on the last day and realised there wasn't anything to hang them on. There is no washing machine (it isn't in the description) but maybe a small conservatory at the back of the house to have one and also an airer/clothes line? but anyway, a beautiful cottage to be in!

Thank you for your feedback and good point about a fold up airer for wet clothes. We had to make a decision between a dish washer and washing machine and the dishwasher won! At this time a conservatory is not feasible but take onboard your comments Property Owner

The dogs loved it too! So close to the Lakes and the Dales and all our drives were beautiful to wherever we decided to go. The pub in the village is closed but we had some lovely meals out at other local pubs. The best were at the Butchers arms in Crosby followed by the tufton arms in Appleby. The stag at Dufton was also good with stunning views. All catered for the dogs and gluten free! We will be back - thank you

Hello thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and really pleased you enjoyed your holiday - the Eden Valley is a delightful part of the country with so many places nearby which are well worth a visit- agree with your choice of places to eat always worth a visit ! Property Owner

So comfortable. Renters always rate bed and shower. Bed was perfect. Shower good. Very clean cottage and well equipped. Go prepared because no shop until Appleby (co op). Pub close to property is being renovated and looks like it could be closed for some time. Highly recommend this cottage. We didn't leave review in guest book, had to leave quickly due to family emergency.

It was spotless and had all the equipment needed. In fact for the first time ever on holiday I cooked some meals as I felt so at home there. The pub which is about 100 yards away is being refurbished but we found the New Crown Inn about 5 miles away was very friendly and the food was good. Would definitely recommend.

  • "We had a fantastic 3 night stay at Rose Cottage."

Whilst it is remote it is only about 20 mins by car to Appleby which we found had everything there that we needed, such as a co-op and Spar, pubs, cafes and some little independent shops. We found the remoteness of the cottage to be a bonus. So quiet, the only sounds were the birds, the lambs and the occasional tractor passing by. The cottage was spotless with a lovely blend of modern and traditional. There is a beautiful walk along the river just a few meters down the road. Owners happily accommodated our last minute request for an extra day and Sykes were fantastic in sorting this out for us. The drive to the cottage from the motorway gave us our first glimpse of this areas breathtaking views. The Eden Valley really is spectacular. We can't wait to go back!

It was Spotlessly clean and lacked for nothing, unless you count lack of a recycling box. Back garden was very dog friendly and even my little escape artist couldn’t find a way out. The only downside for us was the weather which no one can control. Will definitely consider returning at some point.

Hello so pleased to get your feedback and your lovely comments so thank you. I agree with your comments about the recycling but unfortunately our waste collection company do not accommodate a recycling box. I agree our dog cannot get out the back garden either ! About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
