  • "Absolutely lovely cottage to stay in."

Really comfortable and clean, lots of room for the 5 of us and in beautiful surroundings. So pleased that our dog could come too. We loved it. Bathrooms were great (loved the powerful showers!) and the kitchen was perfectly equipped too. (small tip though - the kitchen knives were quite blunt so could do with a sharpen.) Overall, a fabulous cottage.

Perfect place to be close to nature, plenty opportunities to walk and hike; lovely evenings around fireplace, calming sound of the river nearby. Peaceful and quiet place, perfect to unwind. Host were very helpful.

  • "Great cottage and speedy response within the hour when we had an issue with the fridge."

Looking forward to hopefully returning when the new kitchen is in and to explore the Yorkshire Dales further. The open plan upstairs works well for two families and enough seating for all six of us. Was a lot more than we expected and lovely quiet location .

  • "The Old Stables is accurately listed and offers a great standard of accommodation to spend quality time with family and friends."

The Old Stables had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The property was extremely clean and welcoming and dressed for Cristmas. The Old Stables is ideally situated for the Lakes and Dales; with some beautiful walks and villages to visit. We had a few ladybird visitors inside but not an issue they kept themselves to themselves. Excellent accommodation, location and amenities.

  • "We had a lovely week in this cottage."

Great location for some peace and quiet and lovely walks. A couple of things to note, the postcode given by Sykes was incorrect but luckily when we contacted the owner to arrange key collection we were given the correct postcode. The nearby village/town of Kirkby Lonsdale is well worth a visit but you really need to pre-book restaurants (also applies for visiting the lakes). Such a beautiful part of the country, we certainly enjoyed the fresh air!

  • "The property was very difficult to find, not appearing on Google maps and with no phone signal in the area, so we only had Sykes' directions to go on which could do with improving."

There are three bedrooms downstairs, however on our trip one smelled very badly of the cesspit and another had the boiler in (enclosed in a cupboard) so only one bedroom and one bathroom were really useable. One of the taps in the bath kept falling off and both appeared to have been put on the wrong way around. Cleaning in the bathroom also could have been better. On the positive side, the upstairs is a wonderful space, beautifully converted, in good taste, and with plenty of nice touches like the wood above the windows, lighting and multiple speakers for the hifi system. The underfloor heating was amazing and the place never felt cold (in October). There was zero traffic noise with only birds and a river for sounds. The rainshower and woodburners were nice extras, as was the dishwasher. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery, although a decent bottle opener would have been appreciated and perhaps a pizza tray or similar. The owners seemed very nice, as were the other local people we met.

Thank you for your feedback. We work very hard to provide a great guest experience for our Customers when they stay I am sorry that you had an issue with a smell at the property. Since reading this feedback, we have attended to the drain at the property & this has now been resolved. The tap on the bath has been fixed & had the above been reported to us during your stay we would have attended to it straight away for you. The directions are the same ones that are provided to all Customers and have not been an issue in the past for anyone. We have provided the same information for many years and the postcode will bring you straight to the cottage using a satnav. I am sorry this was an issue for you. The phone signal can be intermittent dependant on the network that you have as to the signal strength in certain areas of the country. Once again, thank you for your comments as they are very important to us. Property Owner

  • "Excellent accommodation, everything we expected."

Everything was clean and all the essentials were provided. Some advice on local transport options in advance would be helpful as we didn’t realise it would be so difficult to get a taxi which left us stranded in the pouring rain at 1130pm!

  • "We really enjoyed staying at this very comfortable property."

The surrounding countryside is beautiful and very quiet. Owners instructions for finding it are very clear, but don’t use the post code for sat nav as this takes you to owners farm about half a mile away. Can warmly recommend this place. We had a toddler with us, so we were nervous of the upstairs living room and the staircase, but it was easy to barricade with furniture!

The cottage is a beautiful building, dog friendly, with a nice garden, comfortably bedrooms, lovely spacious kitchen, lovely open plan lounge and dining area, and ample parking. It is a wonderful area to explore the Dales and if you wanted to go a little further north, the Lake District is within easy reach. We do an annual walk with friends up Pen Y Ghent ,and the cottage was very near there, wherever you drive or walk you are in beautiful scenery. The cottage was very peaceful and Kirkby Lonsdale with the River Lune flowing through it has some excellent shops ,cafes, a wonderful bakery, ice cream parlour, and if you like home made pies and quality meat, the Dales butchers is probably one of the finest butchers shops I have ever visited. If you are a lover of traditional cheese, tootle down the road towards Settle and you will experience some of the most amazing cheeses at the Courtyard Dairy. You probably won't buy cheese from the supermarket again! All in all we had a really lovely stay and we highly recommend the cottage and Malcolm and Angie the owners. Hopefully we will have another break back there soon.

  • "Great location (Dales, Howgills, Lakes)."

Lovely conversion. Beautifully furnished. Well-equipped. Super-clean. Only (minor) shortcomings were inadequate supplies of some consumables (e.g. loo roll, dishwasher tablets) although the owner rapidly supplied tablets when texted. And we could only find one tea-towel, which was insufficient for 6 people for a week, and only 4 logs and minimal kindling in the basket on arrival, which seemed mean, and was not enough for a decent fire on the first night. Overall, strongly recommended as a great base for a week.

Relaxing converted Stables in lovely area. Fantastic base to explore the Lakes and surrounding areas. The underfloor heating was a great plus and the dog loved it. Large log burner upstairs meant even more warmth if needed. Great pubs, shops etc in Kirby Lonsdale, beers, ales and coffee all very good at Kirby Lonsdale Brewery in centre of town and had a great meal at Black Bull in Sedbergh which is only 20 minutes drive on back road from property. Well equipped kitchen and good WiFi. Enjoyed the sounds of the river rolling by and the enclosed garden and terrace ard eat if you want to get out and enjoy alfresco drinks and food. Friendly, helpful owners. Great place to get away from it all!

Stunning great surroundings everything you could ask for in a relaxing break. The property had a good Sky package and wifi. The property is in a good location and not far from places of interest which you may wish to visit. The mattress in the main bed room could do with a change and the 3rd bed room was a bit dusty and felt damp. The mobile network was not great had good Wifi in the property. If you plan to order for a Tesco delivery during your stay, pls do get the correct post code. The post code that comes on Skyes booking is for the cottage owners.. Our delivery was collected by the cottage owner and we were not informed of the same. With no network there was no way to call Tesco to check why the delivery had not arrived. So literally we had nothing in the cottage for coffee / BF the day we arrived . . The cottage owners had left our stuff in boxes and being a hot day the milk etc was bound to have gotten bad and not a word of apology for not getting in touch with us which was a bit annoying. Tesco was not helpful either as they said they can cancel the order and we shopped for the entire lot of stuff required for our stay. and later past lunch time and when we had finished shopping we get a call from the owners to say the stuff was with them.Really put us off.. Was a wasted day 1 for us waiting for tesco and having double the stock of what we wanted. A lesson well learn was to call the contact number and get the correct post code.

The property

Kirkby Lonsdale 3 miles.

The thoughtful conversion of an old stone-built barn and stable block, dating back to 1746, has resulted in this wonderful detached property of much character.

Situated in a pretty position next to Fleshbeck stream in the scattered hamlet of Mansergh, The Old Stables enjoys views over a wooded dell, teeming with bluebells in the spring, and even the occasional deer!

Upside down to take advantage of both the pretty views and the many original exposed timbers, the conversion has been carried out to the highest possible standard including solid oak floors upstairs, and underfloor heating throughout.

The open plan living area has French doors out onto a small balcony, overlooking the garden area and woods.

A magnificent conversion, warm and welcoming, ideal for any time of the year.

Note: This cottage is next to Refs. 916 and 9985, and a short distance from Ref. 10255, together they sleep 22.

About the location

KIRKBY LONSDALE

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country’.
