  • "A lovely property and we really enjoyed our stay."

    However I would like to mention the following which would improve the property even further. The kitchen tap drips considerably. There is no laundry basket for the wet washing when you remove it from the machine. The drying facility on the washing machine does not dry the clothes at all. The front door is very fiddly to open. However despite all this we had a really pleasant stay.

  • "Lovely cottage."

    Everything you needed for holiday break. Bed was bit soft for me but that's my choice.

  • "Generally speaking the cottage and location were fine."

    However we have 2 issues, on arrival we really struggled to open the entry doors, I even left a message asking for assistance and there was no response at all. Now this is the big issue parking, reversing in very awkward and driving out extremely dangerous. The cottage is on a steep hill and the wrong side of a blind bend. No wonder the cottage is for sale..!

    We are sorry that you had trouble entering the cottage, however Lakelovers have no record of you contacting them to gain assistance. We hope that this did not spoil your holiday too much. We are sorry that you had a problem with entering and exiting the driveway however this is something outside our control. Our reasons for selling the property are not connected. Property Owner

  • "Cottage is good for short stay appx one week."

    However longer stay you notice the furniture is not comfortable. The double (?) bed is very small and little support, both bedrooms are very small. The bathroom was ok, but the shower needs attention. The kitchen was modern and well equipped, however the furniture again was uncomfortable. Note: Entering and exiting the cottage driveway by car, you have to be carefully as its next to a blind corner on steep hill.

    Sorry you did not find the accommodation comfortable, we have noted your comments. The visit England inspector in November 2021 gave the overall score for comfort as 4 from 5 which is appropriate for the 4 star rating the property holds. I do appreciate comfort is a personal opinion. The double bed is a standard 4’6” size double bed. Property Owner

  • "Very well equipped accommodation, warm most comfortable."

    Perfectly placed for our requirements for a winter break. Would recommend a handy dust pan & brush! Also a little more clarity in the description of where the key case is sited & which door to access the property as we thought the Brookhill cottage door was the entrance to next door!

We changed the "letting name" to Hedgehog Hideaway because several other properties in the near area use Broomhill as part of their address!   • "Cleanliness was not great as per usual with all Lakelovers cottages."

    No welcome pack, not even a pint of milk. If owned this property I would be disgusted with the response from the Lakelovers teams. Cottages.com are far superior. Took 3 days and 3 plumbers visits to sort out a major water leak running into the mains electrics. We could not shower or bath for 3 days. Totally ruined our holiday and had no compensation at all!

    On the 15th November the property was inspected by Visit England and gained 100% score for Cleanliness, as no other party had been in the cottage until the guests the comments over cleanliness are surprising. As we can't pre judge a guests requirements on things like milk (dairy or non dairy) bread (gluton free, granary, wholemeal etc) and beverages we decided to not give a tradition welcome pack to avoid food waste. We keep the property upto date with fixtures and fittings and decorations to give guests the most comfortable stay possible. The water leak from the bath which the guest refers to was not evident when we were at the property one week prior to the guest, however once the leak was reported we asked the plumber to attend, within 36 hours two visits were made to fix the leak. Apoligies were made, it was felt our prompt response was activated and the issue was solved. The concern about water leaking into main electrics was also explained to them as the light fitting in question was a sealed unit approved for wet areas and tested along with the other electrics and certificates issued accordingly. The guests wished to move out earlier then their contract time and we agreed to allow them to terminate their contract with no extra costs. The guests chose to stay an extra 2 nights after this offer was made. Their comments about Lakelovers is something we have not experienced as either clients or customers of the group."   • "The garden was advertised as enclosed however it wasn’t which meant we had to take our dog on a lead to use it if he needed the toilet."

    Apart from that everything was fantastic and the cottage was in a perfect location to get out and explore the lakes.

  • "Hedgehog Hideaway was like the Tardis, much bigger on the inside than it appeared to be from the description."

    From entering the cottage (by the sign saying Broomhill Cottage) the downstairs just seemed to keep going. A cosy sitting room led from the hall, then a short corridor led past the utility room and downstairs cloakroom to the kitchen. The kitchen had virtually everything that you needed, with plenty of worktop space, a large dining table and a sofa by the stable door. The bedrooms have were smaller, but comfortable, and the bathroom was sleek, with a very powerful shower. Outside, the garden was a suntrap with benches in 3 different places to catch the sun. It would be necessary to supervise young children as it is not totally enclosed. Although the cottage is on one of the main roads in the village it is still quiet. We would quite happily return to this cottage.

    We wanted for nothing. If there was anything anyone had forgotten, Hedgehog Hideaway had it in a drawer or cupboard ready for you eg Tin foil, dog bowl, toilet roll, the list is endless. Beautiful garden as well.

The property

Hedgehog Hideaway is a beautifully presented cottage of character in the quiet village of Lindale, near Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel.

You enter the front door into the fully equipped light and spacious kitchen diner with lots of space and an island giving lots of room for preparing food, and lovely dining table for a sociable meal together.

With a traditional stable door and windows overlooking the lovely garden, you’ll find a bench seat, which is a great spot for a coffee and read of the papers.

The cosy lounge with lovely artwork and furnishings has coal-effect gas fire and comfy sofas, with TV and DVD to while away an evening.

On the first floor are the nicely decorated bedrooms: master double bedroom, then the second bedroom featuring a single bed which can be prepared to be a twin.

The family fully tiled bathroom features a large bath with shower over and is finished to a high standard.

Around the cottage you will see many references to the hedgehog name, giving a quirky personality to this lovely home.

Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.
