We enjoyed our holiday in this well equipped, quirky rural accommodation.

The cottage

This 18th century cottage, the owner of which resides on the floor below, is set in a pretty lawned garden, within the secluded village of Newby.

Retaining a traditional feel with characterful decor, this is a lovely place to return to with your family or friends, relax amongst the true sense of homeliness which continues room to room.

There is an open-plan living area with a lounge and an electric woodburner effect stove, so you can cosy up whilst looking out towards the peaceful countryside.

Exposed beams oversee the layout, and a country cottage kitchen is well-appointed for the dining table tucked away into the corner of the room.

Three steps take you up to the freshly designed shower room, lifted by a light blue overtone, with three bedrooms situated close by.

All are knitted together with pretty bedding, elevated by quirky beams, and backed by enticing views, the master room even features a glamorous chandelier, and storage space for an added effect.

Walks to the pub, cafe and brewery in the village are desirable, and the nearby market town of Penrith is worthy of a visit, joined by a good selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, a cinema and swimming baths.

Why not visit the Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith, or Lowther Castle Gardens and Bird of Prey Centre?

A one-of-a-kind destination not to be missed.

About the location

Appleby 8 miles; Penrith 8 miles.

The charming old village of Newby sits in a secluded location in the Eden Valley, between the northern Pennines and the Lake District. Newby, with its better-known neighbours of Appleby and Penrith, is surrounded by lovely rolling landscapes and is often described as having a special, unchanging beauty. The village itself is surrounded by open fields, supporting cattle, sheep and horses. The nearby market town of Penrith offers a good selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, a cinema and swimming baths. Why not visit the Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith, or nearby Lowther Castle Gardens and Bird of Prey Centre? Ullswater, with frequent cruises from Pooley Bridge, is eight miles away or you may like to visit Appleby, famous for its annual horse fair and a stop on the Settle-Carlisle railway. This is an ideal holiday location.
