It has everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The mattresses were comfortable, the bedding was lovely and clean. Everything you need in the kitchen to prepare meals. The hot tub was fabulous. Overall a lovely place to spend a few days away.

  • "Great lodge with everything you need and more."

Quiet park, great location, central to so many things to do, wish we could have stayed longer. The lodge was very clean, tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and jam provided. We don't have a dog and you could not tell this is a pet friendly van. Carpets clean and soft. The towels seemed new, comfy beds, spacious rooms enjoyed the little walk in wardrobe. The hot tub was nice and warm with great views and privacy screens which was nice. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definately stay here again. The only downside to the site was no recycling facilities.

  • "This is a lovely property,18-23 miles from Lake District."

Very quiet and feels safe.I really liked the countryside view including cows, amazing to see. Property is bigger than you see on the picture, very clean and has everything you need in a home ,particularly impressed with kitchen equipments and modern furniture. Comfortable bedrooms and clean bedding. We loved the hottub and really enjoyed it ,however one side of the hottub stopped bubbling and we attempted to contact someone using the number on contact but the people who answered said they no longer maintain the property (it would be helpful to update contact number),we even attempted WhatsApp as directed and live chat but no reply. Overall lovely comfortable, clean property which felt like home straightaway. Thanks for the jam and milk ,coffee sugar and tea. Home from home ,we can’t wait to come again

But everything else spot on very happy with the accommodation

  • "It was a very nice break but the instructions on leaving, wash and dry all dishes, leave the dishwasher empty, strip all the beds, empty the rubbish."

Isn’t that what a cleaner is employed for. Also no recycling very disappointing.

  • "The property is gorgeous."

Lots of extras. However the gas ran out on day 2, rang the number, not opened so rang emergency number 3 times, no answer. Managed to get it sorted with the on site manager, who contacted the owner. This should have been checked before our stay. Cannot see the numbers on gas cooker. Other than this we all enjoyed our stay. One of the best we have stayed in. Will definitely be returning.

The owner has thought of everything! I pack everything but the kitchen sink but didn’t need it all on this occasion. Very spacious and looked like new. Great property. Really peaceful area to stay in.

  • "I booked this property as it was listed as 'Encapsulated by the peace and tranquillity of Cumbria’s countryside' 'A wonderful holiday lodge perched on the tranquil High Hesket Park'."

These are the first lines of the description and everything the lodge is not. It is not even a 2 minute walk to verge of the A6. Vehicles hurtle up and down it at all hours and even in the quieter moments, it is never peaceful nor tranquil. In the evening in the hot tub the sound of traffic and the headlights of them totally take away any sense of countryside. 'After changeover, hot tub can take up to 5 hours to reach optimum temperature' There needs to be clearer information regarding the time the hot tub will be ready as even at 8pm on the first evening, it was not at temperature. I was told by Sykes when i called that the cleaner had left at 11 and said it was heating up then. At 6pm, 7 hours later it was only at 29 and nowhere close enough to be warm enough to sit in even at 8pm. Very disappointed as it was the reason I booked this lodge as the other guest has a spinal fusion disability. Does changeover refer to when the last checkout was (10am) or when you check in (3pm). Clarity is key. More importantly, the lodge is not safe. The gas oven and hob is dangerous. There are no markings on any of the dials so you have no idea which hob ring or oven might or might not light or be on. A gas hob could have been emitting gas and you dont know as there is no knowing which is on and which is off as there are literally no markings. This on its own should have made the owner rethink letting the property. The health and safety of guests must be paramount and it is not here. I feel cheated. I am most unhappy about this and believe the lodge should be shut down until the oven is changed. I also believe that due to this I should be more than entitled to request a significant refund on my costs. We ended up having to eat out every day for both lunch and dinner as i was not comfortable using the hob and oven. I await your response.

  • "Absolutely horrendous stay!"

No vehicles with sign writing is all it said my van is a tidy van with no sign writing,we were welcomed by the warden who made me leave my vehicle on duel carriageway as no vans were allowed had to empty contents into lodge and did not sleep all week worrying about it,we are great guests yet treat like criminals, hottub not on last day, left property as it was and took videos aswell as we felt uncomfortable to be there, Sykes is what I have been using more lately but big let down as should have stated no vans! even tho there was 5 vans on there including a pickup with signage,I have just booked woodpecker on here and worried about going tomorrow already shocking week I had there was start of new long term job in area had game of golf on the Monday to start then rest of week was nightmare

  • "Me and my daughter booked Ravens Rest for a girlie relaxing few days away, The lodge was lovely, the hot tub was great after a few nice walks."

The site nice and quiet with nice views. We enjoyed our stay that much that I contacted Sykes to extend our stay. Unfortunately the price I was quoted for 1 extra night was considerably higher than what I was expecting so declined and booked a hotel for the extra night instead which was a lot cheaper. Thank you to the owners for the little extra touches of pots of jam, biscuits and milk.

  • "We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Ravens Rest."

The accommodation was beautiful, immaculate, modern, well stocked and lovely extra little touches like board games, milk, coffee, jam selection, and some essential cleaning supplies etc as well as some miniature toiletries in each bathroom. The washer/dryer came in really useful, especially with multiple daily uses of the hot tub, which was bliss. Great location - located on a quiet caravan park, brilliantly maintained site located far enough out of towns to feel like you are in the country but close enough for everything to be accessible. Would definitely revisit and would highly recommend.

About the location

ARMATHWAITE

Carlisle 10.2 miles; Penrith 11 miles; North Pennines AONB 11.3 miles.

The attractive, unspoilt rural village of Armathwaite is ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley and the lovely coastline of the Solway Firth. The village has two old pubs, both with popular restaurants serving excellent food, a village Post Office and a traditional village shop. The River Eden runs through the centre of the village, and the area is renowned for its excellent salmon fishing, plus walking, canoeing and climbing. Armathwaite Castle, by the river, is a four-storey Pele Tower, and the 15th Century Church has fine examples of stained glass windows. The Eden Gorge, between Lazonby and Armathwaite, is one of Cumbria's best-kept secrets, and is well worth exploring. The local railway station is a stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and where today many old steam trains still wend their way through some of the finest countryside in Britain. The Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith is the "largest grass covered building in the country" or you might like to visit Dalemain Historic House, featured in a television production of Jane Eyre.
