  • "Beautiful clean & well equipped cottage in a lovely peaceful village."

Perfect hiking area with breathtaking views! Would highly recommend Rose cottage. Hope to visit again in the future.

  • "It is a lovely, cosy, well-rtenovated cottage with everything you need."

Kitchen is very well-equipped, even a barbecue grill in the garden. Fireplace/stove works extremely well, Owners are very welcoming without being intrusive and provide helpful hints about what´s to be seen in the area. Pub up the road offers solid food and beer. Pictures on the website are a little confusing, since they don´t show how the cottage is situated between the surrounding buildings. Garden needs some work (and maybe some time to establish itself) but the little lambs on the adjacent meadow made more than up for some bare corners. We highly recommend Rose Farm.

  • "Rose Farm is a beautiful place, peaceful and in a lovely part of the Lake District."

The house was so welcoming and cosy with every attention to detail. Such a lovely cosy place to return to after a day walking or mountain biking and within easy reach of many lovely Lake District villages and towns. Gilly and David were such kind people. Thank you so much for the super welcome goodies - so appreciated after a long journey. The local pub within mins of the cottage served wonderful food. There are so many wonderful walks from the front door and the garden was glorious. A real piece of heaven and we would certainly love to return very soon.

The owner, Gilly was very helpful and left a very kind welcome gift ready for our arrival. We would very much like to go back in the future!

The house and garden was equipped with everything you could need and Gilly the owner and her family were so friendly and helpful. The village of Dacre is lovely and the local pub just round the corner. We did not want to leave and could not recommend the property more.

  • "The house and location were as expected from the description and from previous visits to that part of the Lake District."

What made this accommodation particularly useful and comfortable for 2020 demands was that one of our party needed to work 'from home' for some days of the stay. Two rooms were suitable for this which was very convenient for us all.

The owners have spent a lot of time paying attention to every detail and the cottage has every facility you could wish for. The cottage is beautifully decorated, very clean and really comfortable. There are beautiful gardens front and back with fantastic views In addition the owner of the cottage was really helpful and ensured we had everything we needed before we got there. They also provided delicious homemade hot cross buns with jam (we stayed over Easter) and a bottle of wine was waiting in the fridge. I would highly recommend this cottage as a place to stay for that extra special break away.

  • "The cottage was beautiful, very nicely decorated and immaculately clean."

We met the owners who were lovely, and as soon as the sun came out a table and BBQ appeared in the garden which was great. The view is lovely, and the conservatory dining room is a really good space for everyone in the evening. It is spacious for seven and a dog, and a few of us had to do some work while away and there is a side room that is good for that. I especially liked the fact that you could walk from the front door, and didn't need to drive to get to Ullswater or to do some of the lake walks. There is a nice pub up the road too (30 seconds walk). Whenever I had any questions Gilly replied very promptly. The only potential issue was that we were a bit slow working out the induction cooker, but it worked perfectly when we got the hang of it. We all loved the place, and would definitely come back.

Peace and quiet in the beautiful Lake District. The property is so comfortable and full of all the things we needed for a pleasant stay. There is a great country inn 2 minutes walk away and Pooley Bridge is 3 miles down the road. The start of a 5 mile is across the road where you pass by a castle and a church. All in all a special place to relax.

About the location

DACRE

Ullswater 2 miles; Penrith 5 miles.

Dacre is a small, quiet village that sits within the Lake District National Park, set amongst rolling Cumbrian countryside. The village offers a pub serving food, with shops available 5 miles away in Penrith. St Andrew’s, the parish church in Dacre, has occupied the site for over 1,000 years and has an ancient cross, which is believed to be pre-Viking. The village also has a castle, which has recently been restored and is now a private residence. Dalemain, an historic house and gardens, is also close by and every year hosts the World’s Original Marmalade Awards. With Ullswater also on the doorstep, and magnificent scenery to be enjoyed down towards Glenridding and Patterdale, which travels southwards towards Ambleside over the Kirkstone Pass, Dacre makes a wonderful base for making the most of this spectacular region.
