  • "One of the best places we've ever rented: the pictures don't do it justice."

The views are unreal, from the garden & from the house itself, direct on Morecambe Bay, & a really beautiful garden full of flowers. From part of the first floor is open plan/sunroom, with water views all around. Nice snug living room at the back of the house. Plenty of places to sit both inside & outside: benches, sofas, table, a little hidden deck right on the water In case you're confused by the photos (we were) the back of Villa Marina is attached to the Victorian brick house, but they are very separate, with a fence, and both house & garden are private. Nice hot tub, too. We took the ferry to Piel and drove into lovely Ulverston. We'd rented a place from someone else that turned out not to be as advertised & Sykes helped us arrange this at the last minute. We couldn't believe our luck.

As I said when I phoned on landing a spindle was broken you could see it had been glued previously as it was right on the bend it was not safe for young children. It was lovely the views were fantastic. Would stay there again.

Thank you for your feedback. The maintenance and housekeeping team are on hand to assist you with any issues you have during your stay. In relation to the issues raised, the heating is set to automatically come on if the temperature drops below 19.5 C but guests can increase this by 2 degrees if they wish to. In addition, the spindle was broken previously and had been repaired, this will now have a more permanent repair to it. Once again, thank you for your feedback. Carol Owner Property Owner

  • "Great property as described in a wonderful location."

Enjoyed the hot tub very much. Is there a way I can contact the owner about a couple of things? For example we found a Nintendo Switch under one of the sofas. We weren't sure if this was meant to be in the property or whether it may have belonged to a previous guest? Also one of our group lost a set of keys. It would be great if they are found that they could be posted back to us. Thank you!

Hello Ross Thanks for your feedback, so glad you enjoyed your time at Villa Marina. We have found a set of keys, we will send them as soon as we get the address where to send them. Many Thanks Carol Owner Property Owner

  • "Hello, before I mention some of the feedback, I should say the house was beautiful and as described, and the only real issue we encountered was the lack of Aga Cooker."

Additional examples for improvement: *Missing parts of instructions for induction hob *Broken shower door back upstairs room *Leaking front door in heavy rain *Lots of dirt and dust (e.g layer of dust in wardrobe upstairs and cobwebs by deckchairs in conservatory and cobwebs above bed in small room with dusty wardrobe. *Lots of cobwebs everywhere… *Drain flys in bathroom with broken shower door *Hot tub dirty lots of bits floating in there. *Dirty glasses and cups when we arrived and a few chipped *A few bulbs out *No soap in the house when we arrived *No fire lighters, no gas in the lighter to light the fire. Again, overall, we had an excellent time, but end up spending more on Takeaways and meals out that we would have preferred. Thank you for your time. Aaron

Hello Aaron Thank you very much for your feedback and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay as it is a wonderful location. We have had a few issues with the Aga as we had been awaiting parts. We apologise for this, but the Aga is now back fully working! This should, however not have affected your ability to cook meals as the kitchen is fitted with a separate full size induction hob and a separate electric oven, in addition to a microwave oven, as in the summer the Aga is generally turned off at the request of our guests, as the room can become too warm. We take on board your comments and we are pleased you took time out to provide us with feedback and we will pass on your comments to our cleaning team. The hot tub has a full drain down each change over and is filled with fresh potable water followed by fresh chemicals and new filters, any bits in the hot tub may have arisen from windy conditions whilst in use, however the filters usually collect these items during its cleaning cycle. Please do note that this is a large property and we must turn around the property the same day for new guests , on occasions the property needs more work (unfortunately not all guests leave the property in the condition they found it!) and as a result some areas can be missed. We take all comments seriously as we are proud of Villa Marina as it is a unique place and we try to ensure that guests have a wonderful stay, we do encourage guests to contact our maintenance and housekeeping team if they have any issues during their stay so that they can be dealt with as soon as possible. • "We enjoyed a lovely stay, the property was so much bigger than it looked in the pictures and was a beautiful place."

The location was ideal, right next to the sea. We had everything we needed, the hot tub was great, although a couple of jets seemed faulty, but it didn’t hinder our enjoyment. The house was clean, spacious, and easy to find. We had a great meal at the Clarkes hotel down the road, and the nearest shop was about a 5 minute drive away. The house is right next to Piel Ferry and we were lucky enough to take a trip to Piel island, which was a great and cheap day out. We had a bit of a nightmare on the day of leaving as my car decided to break down. Whilst waiting for the RAC, the caretakers arrived. They were really kind and understanding. The gentleman insisted on helping me jump start the car, which thankfully worked! They were really nice people and I can’t thank them enough for going above and beyond to help us out of the pickle we were in. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

On the downside however, I feel not being allowed into the property till 5pm when there is your first day gone and having to vacate at 9am was very challenging given the ages in our party. I’m not satisfied that this is for cleaning purposes as although the beds were made up, lots of other parts of the house were clean but not thoroughly as lots of surface dust.

  • "Absolutely stunning property for a girls weekend."

The views are unreal and the house is just gorgeous. The only downside of our stay was that we arrived at 16:47 (check in is at 5pm) and were greeted by the rudest cleaning staff. We pulled up to the property and seen a few young people entering so we asked one if them “is this the right place because we’ve just seen some others walk in”. They replied “erm yes and those young people are making YOUR beds…and check-in is at 5pm you know???”. We waited outside overlooking the view until 17:30 because they hadn’t finished but as they were leaving offered us a late check-out on the last day. Also, AGA cooking facility kept going off so never got a chance to cook in it. Hot tub also required maintenance during our stay because it wasn’t hot enough. Other than any of that, i wasn’t put off and would 100% love to stay again (after the cleaning staff had cheered up a little because it doesn’t set the right tone when you’re only just arriving at your destination.

! The views are breathtaking!!! We never got tired of Watching the sea come and go everyday ! We watched the bats feeding most early evening’s as well … which the kids loved. The bats come really close to the patio doors, so it was a great view. The house has everything you could wish for. Very clean and all needs catered for. The only negative (and I really had to think of one) is that the toaster could do with an update … it was hit and miss on if it worked or not. Other than that the house was perfect! It’s a very comfortable spacious accommodation. Views are idyllic and it’s a great position for exploring the lakes. The only niggles was the space above the aga needs de-cobwebbing. The TV fire stick was difficult to operate, as the remote was in poor condition and the hot tub needs more regular maintenance when people have booked a weeks holiday.

  • "Beautiful , spacious and very well furnished house in a fantastic location with stunning views across Morecambe Bay."

Both lounges were extremely comfortable with the added benefit of an open fire in the downstairs one. The beds were also extremely comfortable and the view from the master bedroom was outstanding especially from the balcony. The kitchen area was also spacious with a large dining table ( perhaps the chairs could be a little bit bigger as you are quite low down when eating ) and had an Aga , electric hob and oven and microwave, every utensil you could possibly need was provided . There is a seating area incorporated into the kitchen area where you can sit and take in the views through the panoramic windows , there is also a sunroom where you can again just chill and take in the views. The massive garden which contains a fantastic hot tub led directly to the sea but be aware that if you have little ones keep an eye on them as there is no fence between the garden and the sea. We loved staying here and I'm sure anyone else staying here will feel the same . The photos of the house do not do it justice and although they are brilliant , its much better in real life. Thankyou for a wonderful holiday.

  • "We had a lovely time in the house, it’s a great property."

I would love to tell the owners that their kitchen table chairs are just too low for the table, making eating feel very strange! This has been mentioned by others in the guest book as well. It is really annoying! The standard of cleanliness was poor, significant amounts of dust, dead insects next to sofas and chairs for example. No problem with the very early checkout time of 0900, but requiring the dishwasher to be empty rather than on seems mean! The lack of recycling at the property is also strange, unless the waste company recycle it later? This should be made clear in the paperwork, which also had the wrong day for the bin, meaning we almost missed it! Overall though a great house, as described, peaceful and pretty location and a great place to relax.

Many thanks for the feedback provided. Sorry to hear about the chairs in the kitchen, the cleanliness issues you had and some confusion over the recycling. We will contact the owner to get these issues resolved. Property Owner

  • "The Villa Marina was spacious enough for three generations of our family to enjoy some precious time together."

The bedroom with the balcony opening out to the sea is spectacular; all of the other rooms are spacious and well appointed. There are three large living areas for folk to do their own activities if they want and a huge kitchen to come together for meals. Our week was absolutely roasting hot and we spent most of each day playing with the children in the garden, and watching all the activities going on in the bay. When the sandy mud flats are exposed twice a day, the sight of an occasional person digging for cockles or sailor fixing the exposed hull of his boat is such a contrast to the kayaks, windsurfers, regattas, fishing boats and dredgers that fill the views when the tide is in. We had an on-line grocery delivery to the house and topped up with treats from the The Bosun's Locker cafe a stone's throw away. It is a great house and we were all very grateful for the opportunity to get together and relax in comfort.

The Villa is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and well equipped. We especially enjoyed the hot tub and cooking on the Aga. However it was the location of the property that will remain in our memories. We sat for hours watching the tide ebb and flow, the coming and going of the sailing boats and fishing fleet. The children loved the direct access to the sea for paddling and stone skimming. Also a perfect location for birdwatching and walking. We had a fantastic family stay wit our 3 daughters and the house was big enough for them to have space when they needed it, but not so big that we lost any of them. The garden and hot tub were a fantastic way to relax and enjoy the amazing views. This property also had one of the best equipped kitchen I have ever come across, it was a pleasure to cook in, I especially loved the Aga. The location of the property is perfect. When inside the gates of the property, including the garden, it is so quiet you could be on your own private island. However a 30 second walk and there is a lovely cafe and there are several pubs within a short drive or even walk if you wanted. The property is ideally located for people looking to explore the Lake District, but escape to somewhere quiet at the end of the day. Barrow in furness is short drive away, with plenty of shops, restaurants and attractions. We also found that the property had many just-eat options available for delivery. I honestly loved this house, we had an amazing time and can't wait to stay here again.

Unfortunately the kitchen sink did not work properly and the hot water came out very slowly as opposed to when turning the mixer tap to cold. The window cleaner decided to appear the morning before the day of departure which was a bit uncomfortable as he did not let us know he was about to spend about an hour going around the house cleaning windows and we were all in the house...not even dressed. I personally think that this should have been arranged for the day of departure. The cleaning crew were also waiting outside the accommodation an hour before our departure deadline which was again a bit uncomfortable as it felt like we were being pressured to get out the house. All in all though this accommodation was fantastic so I would recommend it to others and perhaps would actually rent it again in the future myself.

  • "This is a beautiful property with spectacular views."

The house had plenty sitting areas and furniture was good, plenty space for a party of 9. All beds were very comfortable and the bed Linen was good quality. The King bedroom only had a wardrobe, which was dusty and there was no where to sit items or unpack. There was also a travel cot up in the bedroom. It is great cots are available but if not required they should be removed from the room. 2 out of 3 of the double rooms only had one bedside table and reading lamp, this seemed odd and not convenient if both reading. The kitchen and dining area was large and we had chosen this particularly as we enjoy cooking and having meals together. The Aga was fantastic and a pleasure to cook on. Unfortunately there were not enough pots, oven trays or baking bowls, which made cooking for a group harder than it needed to be. There were two rather old tea towels available. We bought more tea towels and a Pyrex serving dish to make things easier. There was also a high chair set up and again I feel if this is not requested it could be removed. In the bathrooms there are A4 signs on the walls, in bold type with some words in red. We have stayed in holiday cottages in Britain at least once a year for the last ten years and I have not experienced this before. These signs basically say if you block the toilet or cause damp on the floor due to the positioning of the shower curtain, you will incur a charge. These signs give the feeling of a hostel rather than a luxury villa. A shower screen could be fitted instead of a short shower curtain and I would think it would be difficult to prove who had blocked the toilet! At the cost of this Villa I did not appreciate signs stating there would be extra charges. It was lovely to have a hot tub but this became cloudy and began to smell. Someone came to service this but within a day it was the same and we decided to stop using it. We did enjoy our holiday and relaxed enjoying the views however I feel attention to detail would make the stay more welcoming and pleasant.
