  • "Barn End has been beautifully finished with a mix of contemporary and traditional furnishings and decor."

The conversion has been thoughtfully done to provide great accommodation and to retain original features. It is supplied with absolutely everything that you can possibly need for your stay (including a fan and an umbrella and fully equipped kitchen) . Linen and towels are high quality - better than most rentals. The location is lovely with a short 5-10 min walk to Pooley Bridge and Ullswater where there are a number of pubs, restaurants, and shops selling basic provisions. If arriving from Penrith it is a good idea to stop off at a supermarket to stock up if you intend to self cater as village shops have limited range. Cottage is in a lovely area great for exploring Ullswater and not far from Windermere also. Wish we had stayed longer.

We couldn't fault the place all the facilities were superb ! One thing I did fear before I came was how the the wi-fi/internet would perform seeing that the barn was in the middle of big open space farm? well my fears were unfounded the wifi/internet performed as good as my one at home. We loved the scenery, the flowing river nearby and the short walk into Pooley Bridge village, for us the place was a great experience & Penrith & Keswick are just short journey of less than an hour away, we would love to come back again soon, to stay in this lovely place in the fields of the Lake District. • "Loved the cottage - it had everything we needed, particularly peace and quiet."

Very convenient as a base to explore Ullswater/Penrith and its surroundings. Not sure if this would be our feedback in the height of the summer season with the Holiday Park right on the doorstep, and also the proliferation of camping sites and holiday centres along the Howtown side of Ullswater - but then we probably wouldn't want to come to the Lake District during high season anyway. By the way the arrival instructions are out of date as the bridge in Pooley Bridge has re-opened.

The position is close enough to walk to Pooley Bridge, and now the bridge has reopened, is within easy driving distance to the rest of the lakes. The caravan park next to the cottage is very nice, causing no issues, so don’t let that put you off booking this lovely place.

It was great to have a wood burning stove and the place was very spacious. Easy to walk into Pooley Bridge and great walks from the doorstep. The lounge could be improved with a nicer focal point, we didn't really like the black sideboard, which looked out of place, but that's a minor quibble.

Barn End is a beautiful holiday let and are only disappointed that we haven't found it sooner. Its proximity to Pooley Bridge is a bonus, most days we never used the car, with lots of walks on the doorstep and also the Ullswater Steamer. We have recommended it to friends. We are getting a new dog in a few weeks, and this accommodation does not allow pets, which I quite understand, as not all dog owners respect other people's property.

The cottage is well equipped with everything you need (and some things you didn't know you needed until you where there) including a washer and dryer for when you return form your day swimming in the lake or walking the hills. The farm has a lovely park for the kids and everyone is so welcoming. My son enjoyed visiting the many animals in the sheds, twice a day to check up on them. We had a BBQ along the lake really close to the cottage (there are some stepping stones and a bench) and a beautiful spot that catches the sun till late. The cottage is a lovely open space and the log burner is a lovely feature although we only had it in once and that was just for the atmosphere. It really is very homely this has been our Third year and will definitely be going back.

When we got to Barn End we realised the pictures do not do it justice, it is an amazing Barn conversion, very tastefully decorated and so clean it is pristine. It felt like a lot of love & care goes into making Barn End such a dream holiday place to stay. The attention to detail is incredible and everything is provided, particularly in the kitchen to make it a home from home. There is everything you need for a lovely getaway with all mod cons. The setting is on a lovely tranquil and peaceful farm which amazingly is only a 10 min walk into the heart of Pooley Bridge. Pooley Bridge is simply delightful. Should you need any assistance whilst at the farm, the owners are around, very friendly and discreet. It is definitely one of the best self catering accommodations we have stayed in, because it is so lovely and clean, beautiful setting, everything catered for, very friendly owners. There is the most fabulous roll top bath in the master bedroom, we used the single bedroom as our dressing room, and the walk in shower is also a pure delight. We hope to go again. You can do many walks from the door. The launch at Pooley Bridge is about 20 min walk from the Barn which also opens up more walking opportunities. If you wanted to eat out there are several choices in Pooley Bridge plus you are able to buy basics in a few of the gift shops or post office. The whole area around Ullswater is breath taking and it is only 20 min drive to Keswick and the beautiful Derwent water. Without doubt this is luxury accommodation in a beautiful part of the lakes.

About the location

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
