  • “The extraction fan above the cooker was not working the button to change the fan speed was broken (missing), the kettle had been repaired using glue and wooden sticks on the on button (so feels like it will break on someone), the window adjacent to the cooker has a key stuck in it and can’t open.”

Considering it is luxury some handsoap in the bathrooms is a very low cost to provide as is washing up liquid, and bedding for the cot, and you wouldn’t expect bodged repairs on kettles and so forth. The duvets are very thin on the single beds leading to my in laws feeling less comfortable than I would like. ...

The duvets are very thin on the single beds leading to my in laws feeling less comfortable than I would like. I would recommend a manual for the cooker or instructions (the electricity had been switched off and the clock is not straightforward to set up (which it needs to be to use the oven). Likewise for the heating system.

The property

Elder Howe is a luxurious five-bedroom detached property in Pooley Bridge, on the northern edge of Ullswater. This beautifully maintained property is perfectly located to explore the finest of the northern reaches of the Lake District, and is spacious enough to accommodate large groups or two families with ease. With such a high capacity, any property needs significant living space, and Elder Howe has this in abundance.

The ground floor boasts a large open plan sitting room with no less than four sofas from which to enjoy each other's company.

Numbers are easily catered for in the additional dining area with a large dining table.

To support such a group, the kitchen is of significant size, rounding off the luxurious feel of the living areas.

As well as a downstairs single bedroom, the property has four upstairs bedrooms; two en-suite doubles, a twin and a triple to ensure the size of the property is maximised. Elder Howe doesn't compromise on outside space either.

There is private parking for up to four cars, and the rear of the home has a beautifully kept and secure lawned area with a patio section to match. Pooley Bridge makes the most of its idyllic location on the edge of Ullswater, so a five minute walk finds you amongst all the amenities you require for your stay. Bar and restaurant is open weekends from Easter to Whit then fully open every day until September.

Weekends only during October.

During the summer season entertainment is laid on with children's discos, live entertainment, licensed bar and beer garden, during the summer school holidays a children's club is operated and there is a restaurant with take away service available. Ullswater itself is second only to Windermere in size, so there are plenty of water activities to be found around the water's edge.

If you prefer a less energetic break, the historic Eden Valley town of Penrith is only six miles to the north, or a half an hour drive through the stunning mountainous countryside takes you to the beauty of Keswick. Ideally located to be at the heart of the best of the Lake District, Elder Howe is a perfect spot for a large group break in Cumbria.

About the location

POOLEY BRIDGE

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
