“It was unfortunate to note on our arrival how someone had managed to burn the carpet in the back bedroom with an iron, also a burn mark on the unit adjacent to the hob.”

There was also a broken fridge drawer, along with a few handles missing from bedroom units. It’s a shame others can’t look after things to the standard which I’m sure the owners would wish for. Good property in a beautiful location. There was also a broken fridge drawer, along with a few handles missing from bedroom units. It’s a shame others can’t look after things to the standard which I’m sure the owners would wish for. Good property in a beautiful location. Working room by room there are only a few things which would make a huge improvement: Kitchen - chopping board, dishwasher cutlery tray to be replaced due to present one being bottomless resulting in cutlery dropping through and hindering efficiency of machine. Lounge - cushions for sofas, appreciate soft furnishing with covid but if bedding covers can be quarantined and cleaned surely cushion covers can too! Main bathroom - the shower is appalling in terms of both flow and temperature control. Back double bedroom - both door to room and en-suite do not close! Outside - appears to be a huge sewerage issue most pungent at the front of the property which permeated into the en-suite and front bedroom - foul! Garden - furniture was functional - certainly not comfortable. Overall in bedrooms - more accessible sockets, especially near mirrors for hair drying! Great sized rooms with perfectly appointed en-suite to both rooms over lounge, ample parking to accommodate size of property. The above points are minor but would make a huge difference, we would stay again.

The property

Elder Howe is a luxurious five-bedroom detached property in Pooley Bridge, on the northern edge of Ullswater. This beautifully maintained property is perfectly located to explore the finest of the northern reaches of the Lake District, and is spacious enough to accommodate large groups or two families with ease. With such a high capacity, any property needs significant living space, and Elder Howe has this in abundance.

The ground floor boasts a large open plan sitting room with no less than four sofas from which to enjoy each other's company.

Numbers are easily catered for in the additional dining area with a large dining table.

To support such a group, the kitchen is of significant size, rounding off the luxurious feel of the living areas.

As well as a downstairs single bedroom, the property has four upstairs bedrooms; two en-suite doubles, a twin and a triple to ensure the size of the property is maximised. Elder Howe doesn't compromise on outside space either.

There is private parking for up to four cars, and the rear of the home has a beautifully kept and secure lawned area with a patio section to match. Pooley Bridge makes the most of its idyllic location on the edge of Ullswater, so a five minute walk finds you amongst all the amenities you require for your stay. Bar and restaurant is open weekends from Easter to Whit then fully open every day until September.

Weekends only during October.

During the summer season entertainment is laid on with children's discos, live entertainment, licensed bar and beer garden, during the summer school holidays a children's club is operated and there is a restaurant with take away service available. Ullswater itself is second only to Windermere in size, so there are plenty of water activities to be found around the water's edge.

If you prefer a less energetic break, the historic Eden Valley town of Penrith is only six miles to the north, or a half an hour drive through the stunning mountainous countryside takes you to the beauty of Keswick. Ideally located to be at the heart of the best of the Lake District, Elder Howe is a perfect spot for a large group break in Cumbria.

Please note the only pets allowed are dogs.

About the location

POOLEY BRIDGE

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
