  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Margaret House."

It was very clean and tidy and we were provided with everything we needed. Definitely would stay again!!

  • "Sofas possibly need updating, a little bit tired looking and saggy."

    Lovely house though.

Thank you for your feedback, please be assured we have been let down by the supplier on the replacement of the sofas at Margaret House and they are to be replaced by October. We hope that you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house in excellent location, I could not score the house top marks - the house needs some maintenance."

Ripped sofas need repairing/replacing- even arm covers may do the job. There were so many flies- we were getting bitten by them. The internet was very poor, we had people in the party who needed to be on there, and were unable to . The 9am checkout made us have to leave in a rush.

  • "Margaret House was the perfect holiday home."

Comfortable, clean, well-equipped, quiet and spacious. 3 bathrooms was luxury and I was lucky to have the double en-suite to myself.

  • "This is my second visit to Margaret House and it has all the comforts of home, although it could do with being updated."

The carpets, sofas and blinds are looking tired, along with slow draining shower trays.

  • "Overall the house was great and in a great location minutes from the village centre."

Slightly dissapointed that we were not alerted to the fact the road was closed, so after a long journey we had to turn back on ourselves and follow diversion. There had been a plumbing issue in bathroom which resulted in staining down dining room wall. Some maintainance needed in lovely house - toilet seats are loose, sofa arm is ripped. Overall a really lovely break and we would stay again.

  • "This is a spacious and well-equipped house, with some attractive modern art-works too."

There are a number of pleasant walks that can be done right from the door and it is only 5 minutes walk to the village’s shops and eating places, so very convenient.

  • "The one key policy is restrictive, especially when the key safe is unlit, and the paving stones can be slippery in winter."

  • "Margaret House is a very large property with ample room for a family get together."

It was very clean, well equipped and a very warm cosy house for its size. Near to all the amenities in Pooley Bridge with an added bonus of plenty parking at the property. Would definitely stay again.

  • "Margaret house was the most beautiful house in a beautiful village in a beautiful area of the country."

Sykes cottages were friendly and efficient when dealing with an issue which arose. I would without a doubt revisit Margaret house and the Lake District and I am already looking to book with Sykes cottages again really soon. I am more than happy to recommend both this holiday and Sykes cottages to anyone.

That's very good customer service, and nice attention to detail.

  • "Beautiful home, very clean and modern."

Toilet seat broken in double bedroom which was the only thing I could fault. This did not reflect the high standard of this house or spoil our stay. 6 adults stayed and all really felt relaxed.

  • "Margaret House has everything you could want from a holiday home."

The location is excellent on the edge of the village and the house itself is very well equipped . The location of the bedrooms allows for movement without disturbing others. Our party consisted of 3 couples who all meet annually and we all agreed that this house was a 10 out of 10 and would love to return.

  • "Generally a very well equipped holiday home, nicely decorated, comfortable beds, very spacious, clean, and extremely well situated for the village, which has a number of good pubs and cafes and shops."

I would advise that the wooden stairs whilst a lovely feature, are a bit slippy and therefore slippers very advisable for children at least, it would be better if there was a stair gate for families with very young children. Would definitely recommend and revisit.

The house was lovely, only negative point from us was dining chairs need recovering. There was 6 of us and we had adequate space. Would highly recommend. thank you

  • "A larger fridge would be preferred."

Some air conditioning in the bedrooms

    Reviewed by EmmaJul 2018

  • "Overall, the accommodation is of a very high standard."

However, a few things need to be improved: 1) Some kitchen equipment is lacking, e.g. no large frying pan (even though this cottage accommodates 8 people), the wok needs replacing, some pan handles were worryingly loose, and a large lidded saute pan would be very useful. 2) Most tumblers provided in the kitchen are a horrible green plastic. Please could we have glassware? 3) In one of the main bedrooms, the light in the en-suite didn't work and the mirror looks like it could fall off at any moment. Having said all this, we would happily stay here again - it is a lovely spacious house in a great location.

  • "The house was excellent and in a good location and generally couldn’t fault it."

However the light in the en suite bathroom in double room wasn’t working and the mirror was loose. Just a suggestion to the owner there was only one key for the house and another one would have been handy. There are two picknick benches on the patio but some comfortable seating would have been appreciated as we had a hot sunny week and it would have been nice to sit outside in comfort. The only other thing I would say is that perhaps the house is not suitable for older people. The ground floor is on two levels with steps in between, the two 80 yr olds we had with us found them a bit of a struggle. Did not spoil our enjoyment of the holiday and enjoyed staying in the house which is a short stroll into Pooley Bridge. Plenty of walks from the house. Good location for visiting north Cumbria and Westmorland. Would recommend the Eden Valley.

About the location

POOLEY BRIDGE

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
