  • "Very good service from Sykes."

Held the only available cottage in Cumbria for us while we organised the payment.

  • "The first few days we were disappointed."

The heaters were not working until Monday and tumble dryer never worked.A washing line would have been very useful to dry clothes.

  • "We have stayed at this cottage many times - the location is superb - and we have always found it to be clean and comfortable."

It has definitely benefited from the recent refurbishment and the provision of a generous 'welcome pack' was greatly appreciated. Good all-round value. We will be returning.

  • "The cottage was fantastically located in the centre of Pooley Bridge, great access to three pubs and minutes away from the Eastern Fells."

The cottage was comfortable, but a few more utensils in the kitchen would have been great. Comfortably accommodates 4, a little TLC would lift the Stables to another level.

  • "The cottage was lovely; warm, cosy and well equipped, with spacious and very comfortable accommodation."

Everything was well equipped and clean, the only difficulties we had were in working out how to operate the dishwasher and the storage heaters; though we managed it in the end, a file with some instructions would have been helpful. Parking was right beside the cottage in a designated private area and the cottage is less than a minutes walk from all of the facilities in Pooley Bridge, comprising of a small but well stocked local shop run by a very friendly and helpful couple, three hotels/pubs which all serve non-residents (The Sun Inn is the pick of these), a small tourist type shop/cafe and a very nice restaurant. Add to this, that this part of the Lakes is as beautiful as Borrowdale but very much quieter and it all adds up to the perfect location for a short break.

About the location

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
