  • "The property was listed as having three double beds and a twin suitable for 6 guests."

This was the only property I could find when I was looking to book that stated it had 5 beds. Due to our party requirements we ideal need the 5 beds, so booked the property because of this. Unfortunately on our arrival the twin room turned out to be a single bed! This meant that there were only 4 actual beds not 5. We got round the problem by my sister sharing a double with her daughter but obviously this wasn’t ideal and wasn’t what I thought we were booking. Going forward I would suggest changing the description on the website to 3 double rooms and a single, just to make it clear. Other than this, we had a lovely stay at Eastwood. The cottage was very clean, and the housekeeper was very helpful, when we had a small issue with the heating which was sorted immediately. It was a very peaceful location and provided the time together we needed as a family.

  • "Lovely house and surroundings so we had a nice stay however, it would have been superb if we could have had our Christmas dinner in fact any dinner at the dinner table."

Unfortunately due to the only table in the house being in the conservatory it was freezing and there were around 5 different leaks coming through the ceiling, 2 of these leaks were dripping on the actual table itself. Such a shame!

  • "This is a lovely property, spacious yet cozy."

The house is well equipped and lovingly designed. Although it’s still quite a drive to the northern parts of the national park, there was plenty to do and see locally, or within an hour. We had some lovely meals at the Farmer’s Arms in Baycliff.

Great decoration and facilities eg cooking equipment. Lovely garden. Good location. There were a few issues around maintenance eg Some light bulbs not working, Taps in one bathroom dripping all the time, Door handle in bedroom not attached which meant we had to wedge the door shut on a night time One blind in conservatory not working as rusty One room described as twin but only had one single bed. And bedside tables needed on both sides of double beds and on one side of single bed

  • "The property is ideally situated, with lovely peaceful views from the rear garden."

The garden is its main attraction. The garden is well maintained and lovely to sit in to relax and unwind or socialise with family and friends, also the dog loved the garden too! Unfortunately the house could do with some attention of maintenance to the conservatory, such lovely views , just not very comfortable to sit in, loads of wasps and flies could do with plug ins to keep flies and wasps at a minimal. Also leaking water through roof when it rains, roof needs replacing with a tile roof. Beds need an upgrade, especially the mattresses and pillows they are very worn and discoloured. Pleased I brought my own pillow. I found the bedrooms to be a let down. However the front of the house was very comfortable. I just believe a property like that could be amazing, if the little details were better maintained.

Thank you for your feedback which is always appreciated. I'm sorry there were aspects of the house which were not to your liking. Conservatories are wonderful places but do bring their own challenges and flies are one of those. Obviously the conservatory is as clean of flies as possible on your arrival but it's difficult for us to address any that come in during your stay. I will give some thought to your suggestion. Also to the mattresses and pillows which are all relatively new and have protectors and therefore this feedback is a surprise. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful house and great place to stay."

Everything you need was there and the house has everything, the beach is a short walk. We wish could have stayed longer as we felt at home so quickly. Only gripe was the key lock was a little hard to open as it's gotten a little stiff. The blue bedroom mattress was a little hard. Overall I can not rate this high enough and would go back. If you want a great place to stay, access to the lakes and the sea then I would recommend staying here.

What can I say but what an absolutely beautiful house. We loved our stay there. House was immaculate and each room beautifully decorated. Beds so comfy and beautiful bedding supplied - a perfect nights sleep every night. Garden was so huge that our dog just loved running around in it. I would definitely recommend this house to any family wanting a week away - loads of lovely beaches nearby to walk the dog especially Bardsea Beach - free parking too and a lovely little cafe over road. We also caught the ferry to Piel Island and spent lovely afternoon there walking round island and a few cheeky beers in the pub. Weather was gorgeous for spring bank holidays and we enjoyed just chilling in the garden with the family.

  • "What a beautiful house and surroundings."

Said sleeps 6 but easily takes 8 we thought. The garden was our two dogs' favourite spot to run around even when it was drizzly outside. Apart from small spots in the corners it's secure for both dogs and farm animals and we felt safe to let them out when they wanted to go outside in dark. We really enjoyed staying in and cooking, and the large kitchen with gas cooker was like a dream when we live with small one with electric cooker. Beds were so comfortable, had great nights sleep. Everything was very easy to find / use. We were unaware of the occasional leaks in conservatory and surprised to see a small puddle upon arrival but did dry up well next day. It rained a lot during our stay but only leaked once. As for the location, only 10 min or so from all the large supermarkets (only few min from a smaller Tesco) and loads of restaurants, minutes from coastline, it was very convenient. It was rather windy due to the proximity from the coast, though, which was a bit of a surprise for us. I hadn't seen horizontal rain since I left Wales! All in all, we loved the stay and will definitely go back.

We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back one day! Property Owner

We'd looked at this property for ages and hesitated booking because we didn't know the area. We need not have worried. It's beautifully furnished and each room is a delight. Kitchen has everything you could possibly need to cook. On the day of arrival the house warmed up very quickly as there are extremely efficient boilers and log burner. Spacious fridge and freezer to use to stock up on if you're cooking . Washing machine was brilliant when we needed clean clothes. The garden is so relaxing. Best views we've had despite the fact it's not mountainous Could see the sheep grazing nearby and the garden was secure for our dog who really looked at us in disgust when we had to go home as he didn't want to leave. Bed was comfiest we've ever slept in. As previous review states, everything is top quality. Can't criticise anything at all. Nearby spots include Furness Abbey, Ulverston and Walney Island beach which is not to be missed. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this obviously well loved house. Made a perfect base for a week's convalescence. Thank you.

Everything is a top standard including cutlery and dinner sets, pans, bedding etc. literally has everything you need. House was lovely and warm on arrival and we soon had the fire going in the conservatory. Unfortunately we had terrible weather during our stay but once the fire was lit it became nice and toasty. I would rate this as one of the nicest property’s I’ve ever rented. So clean! Which is a credit to the house keeper Keep up the high standard! Thanks for a lovely stay

Only niggle is no feature fire in main lounge (just radiators and a black empty fireplace). No atmosphere added that the lig burner in conservatory area is it up to fully heating this area when a few degrees outside, as no radiators. However the heating could be changed up in rest of house Pity we could not use the conservatory area,as too cold

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your comments. We’re sorry that you found the conservatory cold, when we’re at home we’ve always found the log burner more than ample, particularly when the large radiator between the conservatory and the kitchen is on. We have just celebrated Christmas early here ourselves and all sat around the dining table for the evening with the log burner on and it was cozy. However we will consider this further. • "Eastwood House is a beautiful home and perfect for large groups."

How ever it needs a little tlc with a few issues that can easily be sorted. The door handles are very difficult to use ,some of them are totally broken so you can't open the door and some doors we had to keep open as the handles don't work from the inside. The beautiful fire place in the lounge which was the selling point for us and the reason we wanted to stay there is for decoration only and cannot be used. There was one bedroom where the springs could be felt in the mattress, plaster was coming of the walls. All the other bedrooms were nicely decorated very comfortable beds and lovely pillows. Unfortunately we had several issues with our stay and sadly sykes were rubbish they didn't even have the decency to call me it was me making several calls and emails and eventually getting a standard email back. It's seems that once you have paid your money you are on your own skyes couldn't care less .I was told the owners were away on holiday so totally understandable they weren't available to help but sykes clearly have no plans in place to actually help in anyway when owners are not available. The travel cot has bits broken off the corners and is very sharp .it wasn't safe to use I reported this straight away and asked for a replacement ( as the owners were away I would have thought sykes should have sorted this ) but it was a few days later that they told me to buy another one and the owners would reimburse me. On the whole Eastwood House is nicely decorated and very clean but the kitchen let's it down.its very grubby and several items need replacing. We found broken, dirty utensils, lots of the pans etc still had food on them, there was a cupboard full of previous guests used open food . The hoover was full with dog hairs and the garden was full of dogs mess. If the kitchen was up to standard and the issues were addressed it is a great house with plenty of space ,a lovely enclosed private garden . There's lots to do in the area and would be a good holiday for all ages.

We are always grateful for feedback. We have addressed the issues with 2 of the internal doors. Our door furniture is original and almost 200 years old but hopefully there will be no further problems. We have also asked Sykes to ensure that the property description makes it clear that this particular fireplace in the large lounge is not in use to avoid any future misunderstanding. We have replaced the travel cot and did offer to reimburse the guest if they replaced it as soon as we were made aware - safety is of utmost importance to us. We are very surprised by the comments regarding our kitchen as our cupboards only ever contain condiments and unopened food. We did apologise for the problems from the dog staying at the premises the previous week and our housekeeper did attend and dealt with the issues as soon as we were aware. Thank you again. • "This house is really home from home."

Our stay was perfect. The kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher, oven was combi gas/Electric. My only comment is upgrade the bin to a larger one as it was really annoying having rubbish next to the bin all the time as the bin liners wouldn't fit. This is a tiny annoyance but didn't ruin the holiday! The back room was used the most by us the dining table was large with ample seating for the 6 people. A high chair was provided there was a travel cot and mattress we didn't use the travel cot. The laundry room is large and can dry clothes speedy on a rack. The washing machine was excellent. The two living rooms we didn't sit in either of them at all... but they were clean and looked lovely. The bedrooms upstairs were beautiful, shutters on each window so no curtains, this blocked the light out. My only feedback is on of the bedrooms has a roller blind this had a cord hanging free - this needs to be tied to a wall as it is a strangulation risk to a child. Again nothing that ruined our holiday and we made sure the children didn't go near it. The bedding, quilts were amazing I slept like a dream and I noted where they were from so I can buy for my own home! Everything was clean the bins were put out for us on the Thursday. The cows coming over the hills in the morning while eating breakfast was the best - our young children loved this. I would come back here and rebook it was fantastic. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We have replaced the bin in the kitchen and addressed the risk with the blind in the bedroom. Safety is so important to us. Property Owner

It comfortably slept 8 but unfortunately on dull days we could not all sit and eat together inside as there were not enough dining chairs or matching tableware. There were no blinds/curtains at the front downstairs windows, therefore no privacy at night. Unfortunately the rubbish bins were nearly full at the beginning of our stay and collection day was the day before we arrived. -slightly challenging to say the least. We would have appreciated some outdoor lights to sit out later in the evenings. That said, the children really enjoyed being there, the closeness to the beach and the daily visits from the cows. A great base for a relaxing break, just make sure you take some milk with you as there was no welcome pack.
