  • "Absolutely excellent cottage and garden."

Despite mainly having rain we walked from the door every day to explore the surrounding area. No need to use the car...and the dog loved it. Owners next door were very friendly and helpful. Hopefully we will be back Thanks

Very well equipped and comfortable cottage and a lovely garden with great views. The Kings Head pub great for food and drinks and The Black Swan Hotel also great. The owners of cottage friendly and helpful. The Howgill Fells are fabulous for walking and views. We will definitely be coming back.

  • "A lovely, clean bungalow which is a 5 minute walk from 2 excellent pubs and in a quiet area."

Owners are lovely and friendly and we had a great week. Only improvements would be more glasses as if using the dishwasher there isn't enough. Would return if wanting a quiet break away from it all.

  • "The overall quality of the acommodation was excellent and exceeded our expectations."

Through many dacades of self catering holidays we would rate this place in the top two. The claenliness was exeptional, giving us great confidence in the facility during the Covid situation. Our only regret is that we had to leave early due to a work comittment, but this place is firmly on our radar for a return visit.

Mr and Mrs Ellis are friendly and very helpful owners. Lovely village and excellent walking if you like to avoid the crowds. Within easy reach of both Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen.

  • "Exceptionally clean, considerable thought had gone into post-Covid preparations."

Spoke to owner outdoors on arrival, and occasionally in passing during the week. A welcome change of scene in a very comfortable cottage.

  • "Location: easy access from M6 and there are many good walks within a short distance."

Although there are no shops in the village, the Black Swan has very good quality dining and is less than 10 minute walk. Kirkby Stephen is about a 10 minute drive and has a good range of shops. The house is extremely well equipped and to a high standard. All the rooms are a good size and the kitchen facilities excellent. Wifi works well and parking is easy. The location is quiet and the house itself is very comfortable. Sykes should make it clear that there is a good supply of towels and tea towels, despite what it states in their emails. It would also be helpful to correct the location information on Google which has the house in the wrong place.

But three time now I have booked a holiday with Sykes using a discount voucher on line, and each time I have had to ring and chase up the refund due. Once is forgivable, twice is incompetent and three times makes me angry.

About the location

RAVENSTONEDALE

Kirkby Stephen 5 miles; Sedbergh 10 miles.

The tranquil village of Ravenstonedale lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells, quietly situated within the newly extended Yorkshire Dales National Park. A delightful rural village with a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings, Ravenstonedale boasts a charming Parish Church and the remains of the old Gilbertine Priory. Hill farming is the principal means of income in the area and an agricultural show is still held once a year, echoing days gone by when both markets and fairs were held in the village. Once described by the famous author, A Wainwright, as one of Westmorland’s loveliest villages, the area boasts many walking, horse riding and cycling routes, whilst the nearby attractions provide something for everybody. Visit the Settle to Carlisle Railway Line, the magnificent Howgill Fells and the stunning Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. A superb location at any time of the year.
