one of the best equipped lets we have stayed in. David and Linda such lovely couple, made to feel very welcome on arrival with makings of a brew and chocolate cake - sorry it isn't available for next year as we would have rebooked straight away. Handy for Hexham, Hadrians Wall & great dog walks all around. Cottage was lovely & well equipped. Outside shed was perfect for cleaning the dog & leaving muddy wellies/walking boots, as well as spare wood for the wood burner! Little grassed area outside cottage for the dog to use, with separate bin for dog waste. Linda & David were the perfect hosts & the chocolate cake on arrival was delicious & very much appreciated. Only extra which would have been nice was an extra set of towels when staying for a week. Otherwise it was just perfect! We’ll be back

  • "Your description of the property was inaccurate: your details state that the property has two bathrooms, but there was only one!"

Furthermore, the photograph gives a very different impression of the property; the rented part is a small part of the whole photograph, stuck at far end. If your description and photograph had been accurate and true, I would not have booked that property. In future, I will be looking to book cottages from another company. RNAG

The cottage was immaculate and so comfortable. We loved the log burner it was great to come home to at night, but the cottage was really warm even without it, the heating was very efficient. We loved the peace and quiet on the farm and the lovely walks around the area. We visited many places while staying at the cottage, it is so close to all the Roman sites, plenty of National Trust and English Heritage too, together with lovely villages. We found all the locals very friendly too. The roads were so quiet too, we only passed a couple of cars most days, bliss when you come from a busy town yourselves. Linda and David had put a lot of thought in to providing everything to make your holiday special, including a lovely homemade cake, which was delicious. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending this cottage to anyone or staying there again ourselves.

The location 'away from the maddening crowds', with views of the country side and the farm's sheep from inside the cottage, access to great walking country and clear night skys for star gazing from the patio, provided a much needed opportunity to really wind down and relax. The internet connection is excellent should you need it and sitting in front of the log burner was really someting to look forward to after (the we cake was a real treat after a hard day's walking!). Would definitely recommended this property to those with and without dogs.

  • "The entire holiday was excellent."

We were made very welcome on arrival and greeted with a lovely cake and some flowers on the table. The barn was very well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen for our catering, the deep freeze in the utility room was useful as was the sink unit etc for preparing vegetables etc. The lounge was very comfortable - not cold enough to light the wood burner - but everything was there should we have needed it. The bedrooms and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. Linda and David gave us some good advice on places to visit. Our dog, Tarka, enjoyed all the lovely walks around the farm and no problems with any animals. The dogs belonging to Linda and David were very friendly as well. We will hopefully find time to re-visit this lovely part of the country and will certainly book the barn at Steel. Keep up the good work Linda and David.

  • "My wife and I rented this exceptional property for a week in June."

On arrival we found the property to be spotlessly clean and easy to operate. The kitchen was well-equipped with modern appliances. There was a fridge of sufficient size to accommodate a week’s fresh groceries. The gas cooker hob was highly efficient and the electric oven was pristine – always a good sign. In the utility room there was a freezer with a washing machine and tumble dryer – ideal for those intending to stay for more than a week. The spacious living room had a comfortable settee and chair. There was supplementary lighting which meant it was easy to read after dark. There was a wood burning stove but we didn’t need to use it in June. The kind owners had provided us with a huge basket of logs if we wanted to make use of it. The dining area had a table with four chairs – as with the rest of the house this furniture was top quality and in keeping with the rustic theme. The bed rooms were relatively spacious with plenty of storage. Linens were of a very good quality and we found the bed to be perfect for a quality sleep. It was a sheer delight to wake each morning with a sumptuous view over the rolling hills, without any other sounds than bird song. The shower in the bathroom was particularly powerful and there was always plenty of hot water. The property also had a toilet downstairs – a useful feature for a larger group of guests. Wi-Fi is strong and reliable. There were many features of this property which indicated the care and thought the owners have given to ensure the well being of guests. There is a selection of DVDS and leaflets about things to do in the local area. We were welcomed to the property with a large sponge cake which was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed our visit to Northumbria immensely, with its opportunities to visit traditional villages and towns. We did lots of touring in the hills – there is so much to do, especially for those interested in nature and history. The owners are to be commended for providing such an attractive and cosy holiday cottage. My wife and I have stayed in a huge number of self catering properties over the years and this is without doubt one of the very best. I would recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit this gorgeous area.
