  • "A very comfortable 2 bedroom cottage in an idyllic spot of the lakes."

Very clean on arrival and very well equipped with a lovely private hot tub. The views from every room of the cottage are stunning and include farmland, hills and nearby lake. It's just a short 15 minutes walk on a easy footpath to Hawkshead and there are lots of lovely walks from the cottage. We would thoroughly recommend staying here.

. the views are spectacular…10-15 minute stroll in to Hawkshead village through the fields coming out at the magnificent church …A little on the expensive side but worth it as the cottage was immaculate and very comfortable. The cottage is for 4 people but plenty of crockery, glasswear and utensils to entertain visitors or family … our grandchildren loved the hot tub. This is a working farm so we got to see all the sheep and baby lambs with the cows and their babies up close .. The front of the cottage is a public foot path so you do have people passing but this is not an intrusion at all …. We hope to go back in the future …

  • "This was an excellent choice."

The property was well situated on a farm, with sitting out areas and a hot tub. The hot tub really made a difference. Sitting in there first thing in the morning with frost on the ground is surely very healthy! The property was well equipped throughout - my only gripe was the lack of a proper kettle. I don't trust machines that are basically designed for making coffee. We will cetainly return, which I think is the best recommendation.

  • "Loved the cottage, very homely, clean and well equipped."

Views were great too. Liked the blue tooth speaker facility. Just a couple of development points, all to do with hot water: - we were only staying 2 nights and the first night the hot tub was too cool to use, due to being emptied and cleaned before our stay, which is a good thing but we were very disappointed not to be able to use this facility - also on that first night the hot water ran out after one medium length shower and took 2 'boosts' and 2 hours to reheat, so not only no hot tub but no shower until late - the hot water heater in the kitchen is fiddly to fill and use, and not as hot as a kettle

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry the hot water had caused problems for you and I will check the times that the boost is set too. We have had several power cuts recently and I wonder if it has reverted to factory settings. I will purchase a kettle today to improve the kitchen facilities. Thank you for visiting Shepherds Cottage. Property Owner

We had the most fantastic time, the cottage was just perfect. The pictures do not do the cottage any justice. From the cleanliness, the views, the hot tub … everything was great. As it’s on a working farm you hear all the animals which I just adored, the cottage was immaculate, the location was perfect. We are already looking at when to come again. If you’re anything like me and struggle to choose “the right place” then look no further. The best break away we’ve had in a very very long time. I could write all day about this place but it is truly lovely. The only downside is that we can’t stay there forever! Thank you, we hope to book again soon!

I had originally booked a week in May but had to change it the day before due to a family bereavement. Lisa was very understanding and agreed to move it to September. The cottage was very roomy for two and would still accommodate four comfortably. The views of Esthwaite every morning were perfect and changed daily, we had breakfast outside on a couple of days. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bedroom cupboards contained ironing board, clothes horse, hairdriers, and there were toiletries in the bathroom. We didn't need to see Lisa much but she was very helpful by text beforehand and in person. I have recommended the cottage to several friends already and my grown-up girls want to stay there next year. I stayed at Howe Farm over 10 years ago on business, loved it then, and remembered they had a cottage, so booked and have had such a relaxing holiday. The area is lovely, not as busy as other lakeland centres which was perfect, plenty to see in Hawkshead too - we ate at the Queens Head on three evenings, and Tower Bank Arms, in Near Sawrey for a couple of lunches and would highly recommend them both. This single-storey barn conversion is situated on a working livestock farm, just under a mile from the picturesque village of Hawkshead and six miles from Ambleside.

With spectacular views over the fields to the pretty Esthwaite Water, this wonderful cottage is a firm favourite for couples or families at any time of the year.

Enter this welcoming cottage and you will find a real gem as you discover the light and airy open plan living area, which has feature beams and a delightful sitting area with soft and cosy leather sofas, alongside a modern kitchen.

Set all on the ground floor, it is just a short stroll at bedtime to reach the two bedrooms and the luxurious shower room, where you will find many extra touches such as cosy robes, slippers and toiletries, which have been generously supplied by the owner to ensure that your stay is nothing less than perfect.

Outside, at the rear of the cottage, is a lovely patio area with your very own private hot tub, perfect for chilling out after a hard day's walking, whilst at the front is another patio which boasts fantastic views down to Esthwaite Water; an ideal spot to sit back and enjoy the peaceful and tranquil landscape.

Esthwaite Water has been known to be frequented by osprey that have no doubt been attracted by the pike and trout in the lake, as are fishermen who can fish on the lake by arrangement with the owner.

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
