About the location

Barrow-in-Furness 5 miles; Bardsea 5 miles; Ulverston 8 miles.

Goadsbarrow is a small hamlet on the Furness Peninsula overlooking Morecambe Bay. It is situated right on the coast with views across the bay to Lancashire in the distance. Just up the coast is the small village of Bardsea. This remote area grew from a small fishing village and farming area into a major transportation link for coal, iron ore and corn. No longer a vital port, Bardsea still retains its fishing heritage, and features a pub serving fine ales and good food. The village is close to spectacular Furness Abbey, while the ancient market town of Ulverston is just a couple of miles further up the road. Ulverston is built around a cobbled main street and boasts a fine selection of independent shops, café’s, and pubs with open fires and real ales. There is an extensive selection of eating places to suit everyone, from fine dining to traditional pub food. Ulverston is also well known as a festival town, with events ranging from flags and walking to art and music festivals throughout the summer months and with the renowned Dickensian Christmas festival in late November. It is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and world record holder of the biggest foam pie fight in the world giving a glimpse into the fun community spirited little town.
