  • "Positives A beautifully presented cottage , rustic and cosy."

Fantastic, picturesque location, excellent for walkers. Well equipped kitchen Negatives Very cramped bedroom, we had to climb over each other to get into bed! Water pressure in the bathroom was extremely low. If a tap was turned on the shower completely stopped.

Thanks for your review and we appreciate the mention of how well equipped the kitchen is. We have tried to use our own experience of cottage holidays to make sure the property is well equipped throughout . From your comment about a cramped bedroom we assume you are referring to the smaller double. Whilst this is smaller than the main bedroom it is large enough to have a wardrobe and bed side cabinet together with a double bed . There is certainly no need to ‘climb over each other’ Next time you should take the larger bedroom !! The water pressure has never been an issue in the property and we can only assume it was an external matter that has now been resolved. Property Owner

  • "Very comfortable cottage in a lovely location."

Downside I found was the oven not easy to use and car park space tight.

Hi Linda thanks for the feedback and im pleased you enjoyed the cottage. The Oven instructions are in the guest handbook and no-one has expressed any difficulty previously but we all get used to our own ovens so can understand the unfamiliarity !! A parking space in the Dales is a rarity so we are grateful we can offer one with the cottage and we find reversing in is a good option but there is always space by the village green for those who choose not to use it. • "We had a lovely stay, thank you."

We thought that it was decorated stylishly but also in keeping with the age of the property, comfortable and cosy with good facilities. Good location for local walks into Hawes and Hardraw. We would stay here again if in the local area.

  • "Found the stairs very steep, my husband is 80 and I'm in my 70,s, thought it could have been made a bit clearer about the stairs."

Also the hand rail was insecure coming away at the bottom, a thicker rail would be better. It was a further walk from the village than was explained in the blurb! But other than that we had a great time with our friends, the cottage is very pretty. And we had some lovely walks with the dogs.Thank you.

Hi thanks for taking the time to send a review of High House and we are glad you had a good time and found the cottage pretty. The cottage information does clearly advise that the stairs are steep and maybe unsuitable for those with mobility issues as we wouldn’t want to mislead any guests. Hawes is just over a mile walk away across glorious Wensleydale countryside and we feel that it’s location is entirely accurately described in the information provided by Sykes. Property Owner

  • "Lovely relaxing time at the cottage, if just a little too isolated, a shop and or a pub within walking distance would have been a bonus."

My only criticism is the bannister on the stairs, when we first arrived, I went up the steep stairs to the toilet and gripped the bannister, which came away from the wall, on inspection, it was only attached by very small screws, I got a screwdriver from the car and refitted it and told everyone not to use it, this needs to be replaced with a more substantial bannister and fixing, or someone could have a serious fall.

Thanks for the feedback Keith we are glad you had a relaxing time at the cottage. Whilst there is no pub in Sedbusk I'm sure you enjoyed Hawes with all its amenities and only just over a mile walk away. Even closer at the bottom of the hill from Sedbusk is the Stone Hotel for lovely meals and morning coffee's. We are sorry about the handrail issue you had and had you alerted us immediately we would have arranged to have refitted it straight away. We can confirm it has been re secured appropriately and there should be no further issues. Kate (owner) Property Owner

  • "The cottage was absolutely lovely, and we had a great stay!"

The cottage was gorgeous, well decorated and altogether a great space in a wonderful location. Lovely walks in all directions-- we'll definitely be coming back! The only snag was the lack of teabags/any kind of small welcome pack when we got there. Even just three teabags/a pint of milk would have been amazing, as when we got there the shops were closed in Hawes, and my goodness a cup of tea makes things better after a long journey! It was particularly galling as the tea tin and coffee and sugar tins were so prominently displayed! The heartbreak! The other thing which would have made things easier is parking advice in the email with the directions etc.-- it might have been my faulty reading, but we did struggle to work out where we were meant to be parking. Thankfully, a very kind neighbour did tell us where to park. Aside from those minor things, which now we know about we can plan for, the cottage was wonderful!

Thanks Olivia for the lovely feedback on the cottage. We have taken on board your comments about tea bags and milk and will consider whether to swap the wine and snacks provided in favour of a cuppa! Sykes have confirmed that they have clarified in their email the parking space directly opposite the cottage. We look forward to seeing you again. Kate (owner) Property Owner

About the location

HAWES

Leyburn 16 miles.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
