"We ha seven nights at the Herdwickthe accommodation was clean and comfortable, ideally placed next to the owners property the Wilson's arms."
Hot tub was an added attraction of we spent some lovely spare time using, the property is ideally placed for both walking and visiting a number of local attractions

"The hot Tub didn’t work for the duration of my stay"
-
"A very modernised flat, compact but functional."
Had an issue with newly installed hot tub but pub manager came straight over and sorted it. We had to turn it off at the fuse box overnight as the noise of it recirculating kept us awake and surely too the neighbours, but we probably didnt know how to use it correctly. The wet room caused issues with a wet floor for hours after a shower and simply needed a mop or squidgy to be provided. This was mentioned many times in the guest book so is easily fixed if taken notice of. We mentioned to the manager but felt it was low priority to him. So going to the loo after the shower was used meant wearing (muddy) shoes!. But would deffo return, fantastic place and location

"We stayed at Herdwick for our anniversary and it is such a special place for us, so peaceful and quiet."
We will definitely be back even if the weather is as bad as it was when we were there! Only had one small issue whilst we were there, we were unable to get hot water for about an hour or so but the staff soon fixed it. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing weekend away to just switch off and recharge.

"We had a wonderful winter break in our tastefully decorated and well-equipped cottage with wood burner and hot tub."
The venue had everything we needed, with the options of breakfast and pub meals prepared by an excellent chef, a deli selling some lovely items as well as essentials, and the village a couple of miles away with numerous options for eating out, a well-stocked supermarket and outdoor sports stores. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Away from the busiest tourist areas, the location caters wonderfully to walkers and cyclists and we could not have been happier.
-
"A great stay and well worth the money."
Asses bonus having the Wilson Arms 20 steps away. Such a warm and friendly pub.
-
"Really lovely little place in a great location."
Hosts were very accommodating. Would recommend without hesitation.

"Only thing I can say that could be seen as a negative is the advert I saw said ..."
Only thing I can say that could be seen as a negative is the advert I saw said the cottage had 2 bathrooms and a bath I assumed on booking this was a mistake so it was no surprise when I discovered ther was only 1 bathroom / wet room and no bath Everything else was as advertised and in excellent condition very enjoyable stay and the nabouring pub was a pure treat with excellent service and stunning food
-
"Very cosy well equipped apartment and a really good base for the numerous walks in the area."
Only two negatives. 1st was the wet room floor is very slippery when you are showering and the 2nd was the hot tub didn't work all week despite me reporting it on the 2nd day. Other than that owners and pub staff really friendly
-
"The hot tub was the only negative."
There was no privacy screening from the grounds of the pub so you are in full view of the customers when entering and exiting the tub. And the tub did not seem to have any chemicals to keep the water clear - by the 4th day it was just about unuseable and we are clean people. But the views from the decking were exhilarating and overall a lovely place to stay with walks from the door.
-
"The cottage was exceedingly clean, however the hottub wasn't the cleanest (still usable though)"
-
"Did not CLEARLY STATE that you were unable to leave dog/s unsupervised."
This made it hard to go food shopping as I could not leave the dog in the car as the alarm would go off could not leave unlocked! This totally ruined my holiday & would NOT recommend sykes cottages ever.
-
"We had a great time, the apartment was bigger and better than we thought it would be based on pictures."
The wetroom was not an issue as some have mentioned, it sprays onto the door but it doesn't leak into the bedroom, and the water dries up in a few hours (like most wetrooms). It was an ideal location for everything we wanted to do, the hot tub and balcony were great, and the guys in the pub next door were lovely, contrary to what some people on these reviews were saying. Will come back again!
-
"Nice comfortable flat with excellent walking."
One downside is the wet room bathroom as the drainage is not efficient and there should be a squeezy mop available to push the excess water to the drain. The hot tub was not working.
-
"This is our 3rd visit to the Herdwick and feedback has obviously been listened to as the one thing missing previously was a microwave which is now in the apartment."
Really does feel like home from home and we will be back for a 4th visit.
-
"Absolutely lovely place to stay."
It had everything you could want and within a short driving distance of beautiful Lake Windermere. The pub next door was friendly and helpful. They served food all day. Would definitely recommend!
-
"The flat could do with some TLC to re paint walls where mould is"
-
"Smaller than photos show, bathroom needs re thinking as you get wet feet when you go the toilet as floor takes hours to dry from a shower."
It’s two single beds pushed together no topper and they do separate. No privacy in hot tub and it turns off at 10pm! No mention of this anywhere until u arrive. Communication from owner after 2 messages. Advertised on other booking site which looks like it’s to hide negative reviews
-
"Amazing place and bread from the Trover deli left for us on arrival beautiful property."
Very well looked after and very clean
-
"The apartment was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed my week here."
The only points I would mention are that the bathroom door needs changing to something more suitable for a wet room as its damage leaves a smell through the apartment. Also, the hot tub needs instructions as I only had it partly working for some of the week. It is obvious that the owners have been responsive to previous feedback which is great to see.

"The hot tub had hair floating when we got there and the staff at the Wilson Arms acted like they were really put out that we asked for their help."
It states in the advert towels included in rent but when we asked for a change of towels because of having to shower before and after using the hot tub we were told it would cost us £2.50 per towel. Not included in the rent. They have put a king size duvet cover on a super king duvet so the duvet doesn't fit the bed. It needs a washing machine and a dryer making available. It also needs a micro wave. The freezer is in desperate need of defrosting. Even though it advertises speak to the staff in the Wilson Arms we were told the flats are self catering and nothing to do with the Wilson Arms and it is run by the owners son. No contact details are available for their son. Staff extremely stand offish and not very welcoming.

"Really clean and comfortable place."
fabulouse location only steps to the pub. great walks nearby
-
"The herdwick was a very comfortable cottage."
It was ideally situated for walking. There was a good cycle track to Coniston and a good walk along the lake for non walkers. The addition of the hot tub was welcome after a days walking .We did feel perhaps it should say to bring a tea towel as one wasn’t provided, and there was only a few dishwasher tablets. There was a problem with the hot tub but it was fixed quickly and the pub next door does good food and also there is a deli. All the people in the pub were very friendly . We had a very relaxed stay and enjoyed our visit to this part of the Lake District.
-
"We had a great break in this lovely cosy holiday home."
Lots of homely touches and kitchen well equipped though no microwave. Enjoyed the hot tub too!
-
"We had an excellent week staying at The Herdwick."
Fantastic base for walking either the challenge of the Old Man/Dow Crag or a relaxing walk along good paths to Coniston via Coniston Water. The Wilsons Arms next door is friendly and cosy for a well earned drink after a walk! The Herdwick is well equipped, lovely and relaxing with the log fire and we thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub! This was our second trip to The Herdwick and we hope to book another visit soon.

"On arrival we had to pick the keys up from the pub, the lady who greeted us didn't know much about the property, she did tell us that if we would have booked directly we would have got a free breakfast!"
Probably shouldn't be telling customers that one. There was no wifi at the property even though it was advertised. The hot tub was nice and clean but as other visitors have stated, it was turned off at 9pm rather than 10pm which it states in the welcome pack. The location of the hot tub is a little bit strange, over looking the pub car park, there isn't much privacy. The appartment itself is lovely, modern and clean and the log burner was amazing. In the wetroom you need to walk through the shower to get to the toilet which ends in wet socks if you've had a shower recently.

"Had a great time but we are on our last night tonight."
We had tea and got ready to get in the hot tub to find that it was already turned off (at 9pm). The property information states that this happens at 10pm. We called the pub to ask them to please turn the hot tub back on, only to be answered by a woman who said ‘oh that’s not right, it should still be on, but sorry I don’t know anything about the hot tubs. The handyman would deal with that but he won’t drive out at night!’. As all information tells us please call the pub if we have any problems, I’m not satisfied by this response at all. I don’t expect a handyman to come out, but as it’s presumably just a timer system which is controlled from in the pub, someone on site should be able to flick a switch for us?! Or at least attempt to make a phonecall to someone who would know which switch to flick? There was no attempt to help us whatsoever and this has left a real sour taste to the last night of our relaxing break. As I have prepaid for the holiday I don’t think it’s acceptable when something I have paid for doesn’t work, and there is absolutely no attempt to sort the problem out?

"We was so happy with the apartment, we was pleasantly surprised with the wine, butter and bread :) the location was perfect and so peaceful."
The staff was amazing in the pub helping us with any queries. However the only down side to the apartment was when showering it was impossible to clean the floor and it was soaking for over an hour and had to let it air dry. The hot tub was barely warm and was turned off around 9pm when it says 10pm on the booklet so we didn’t bother using it and this was one of the main reasons for booking the apartment.

"Lovely place for a well needed break with our little dog."
-
"Very nice cottage, the only thing that I missed was a microwave oven."
-
"Marvellous holiday at herdwick staff at the wilsons arms 10 out of 10."
We will be returning.
-
"Lovely apartment and great location, the little extras made such a difference too, fresh bread, wine, milk."
The apartment is clean and comfortable. Even our dog was made to feel welcome, we will definitely return.
-
"Nice cottage in a great location, a welcome pack explaining how to use hot tub and appliances would be helpful."
-
"Herdwick is in an good location and is of a high standard."
We both really enjoyed our stay.
