  • "Unfortunately the owners double booked us & we didn’t get the accommodation we had originally booked which I had booked specifically for outside access & space for our dogs."

Kitchen area needed a bit of TLC. Position of property was good for access to the areas of interest that we wanted to visit.

Plus the canopy keeps off the rain! The owners are the most helpful and pleasant people who can’t do enough for you. Stay here if it’s available!

Also the TV in the bedroom and two jets in the hot tub didn’t work! The cleanliness was not up to standard, Basically the apartment could do with a deep clean. Which really should be every time guests leave! Saying this we did actually have a great time and none of this spoilt our little break. Overall we were happy with our stay. Good location, fantastic walks and also enjoyed a few drinks in the Wilson Arms.

  • "The cottage could do with some TLC There is mould in several places through the cottage."

It needs a good freshen up. The cottage did smell slightly and the bathroom wasn’t very clean. On the day we arrived we had a knock at our door at 6.00 there was another couple who had also booked the cottage for the same days, there was no one around to see them and they had to wait in there car and try and contact the number provided - but they had been in contact that morning to confirm there booking and the collection of keys before setting off. The plastic glasses provided had holes in the bottom so leaked everywhere, the dishwasher was not working and only one side of the hot tub jets were working. The pub next door was also closed the days we were there and it is a 10 minute drive to the next closest village where you can find an open pub. We did enjoy our stay and the cottage had everything we needed.

  • "The cleanliness of the cottage was not what I expected in these current times."

The kitchen cupboards had definitely not been wiped out for some time. The front door was filthy. Dishwasher was out of action, we were not informed we would have no dishwasher, something that is actually very important when you're on holiday. The TV did not work in the bedroom. We did mention this but it was never resolved. One morning we had no heating or hot water, the boiler had tripped. Obviously this can happen to anyone but no apology was made for the inconvenience. I imagine the cottage was quite beautiful when first decorated but it is now tired and in need of a freshen up. Good points - the hot tub. Lovely.

  • "Location was great; home from home with good facilities; great to have hot tub to soak in after long walks; great to have food and drink served in the marquee in pub garden daily."

Some noise from upstairs and hot tub is overlooked by upstairs if they are on balcony. A towel to mop up the water on the floor in wet room is useful. Overall a great stay!

  • "The property is excellent although it is beside the main road which can get a bit noisy at peak times and when motorbikes are passing."

Very comfortable and everything you would need is there. The hot tub is so worthwhile after a long day's hiking and a real treat. The Saddleback is downstairs and has its own yard area that was ideal for storing our bikes. The bathroom is a wet room so the floor is always wet for a while after you have showered. Suggest you take flip flops or crocs so you don't get your socks wet.

The cottage was very clean and welcoming. It was quite cool of an evening so the wood burner was a great plus to have. The Wilson Arms next door served lovely food. The staff worked so hard and were under constant pressure being under staffed.

.. Did not disappoint We were lucky as no-one in the apartment above..think you need to make guests aware of potential noise and the fact the upstairs can see you in the hot tub as their balcony overlooks..

  • "The cottage was perfect for our purposes."

we wanted to explore the Lakes which we did. The duvet on the bed was a little bit too warm and heavy but would be fine in the winter. As a Sykes cottage owner we were very impressed with the standard of the decor and furnishings. There was everything we needed.

  • "It was a good cottage in a convenient location."

The pub next door is excellent, produces good food all day very friendly and has a massive beer garden. There was no noise issue from the pub at night. The cottage was clean and well equipped. One of the shower heads (the hand-held one) did not work and obviously hadn't for quite a while - a minor inconvenience for those who don't want to get their hair wet! Previous comments had been made about hearing noise from upstairs but although we could hear footsteps in the evening, we heard nothing at night - indeed it was blissfully quiet. I will go back when I am next in the Lakes.

  • "The booking process was quick and easy and the description of Saddleback was quite accurate, however there were a few points to raise."

The allocated parking place is in a ridiculous spot. I was asked to move my car early Tuesday morning because the bin lorry couldn’t access the rear of the owners main property, The Wilson pub. In doing this , with the ‘help’ of the lorry driver ,I managed to back into a wall which is now going to cost me . Also a previous visitor had stated that the shower head attached to the wall wasn’t working which I can confirm was true , although the ceiling mounted one , was. This wet room lived up to its name as it does get soaked when you have a shower . If anyone then has the need to use the room for anything else e.g using the toilet, having a shave, they then are walking on a very wet floor . I think a squeegee of some description should be made a available. A broom for the rest of the property would also come in handy . The property is in quite a convenient spot for touring the Lakes but I will certainly not be making use of it again.

When they left it was better. Also there are two doors to the apartment one has no curtain so every one can see in. This is not a new problem Looking through the visitors book both these had been mentioned many times.

  • "We love Torver so situation was key."

The flat was perfectly located. The kitchen was well equipped and I cooked roast dinner every day without the need for anything. The bed was to die for as was the wet room. I couldn't really fault the place. We were out all day and then in the pub so didn't really hear any noise from the upstairs apartment and could only hear the hot tub when we were in the bathroom. Sat in the beer garden so didn't need the outside space. We normally rent a cottage but will be using Saddleback again. We didn't personally need anything from the staff but watching them help other residents I couldn't fault them. We had a perfect stay.

  • "Friendly hosts, a great and cosy pub, an apartment reasonably appointed."

However, the dishwasher was full on our arrival, which questions how well or efficiently this apartment was checked and cleaned before our arrival. A washing machine would have been helpful. Most cottages these days have one. Sadly, all the positive elements were off-set by the intermittent and irritating noise of the motor from the hot tub on the balcony above, which sounded right through our apartment. This is kept running 9am-9pm every day!! It spoilt what would have been a most enjoyable, peaceful and tranquil holiday in lovely surroundings. For that reason alone I will not be returning or recommending it to my friends or family.

  • "Saddleback cottage is ok if you don't mind noise from the upstairs apartment."

The couches in saddleback and herdwick are practical but not very comfortable as we stayed in herdwick in December. The hot tub which came on at 9am and off at 9pm was very noisy and is situated on the balcony of the herdwick but we think there was a problem with it and reported it to the staff in the Wilson's pub. The staff in Wilson's pub and the church house inn were very nice and both pubs dog friendly.

  • "The apartment was lovely but the noise from the apartment above made it so that it wasn't quite as a relaxing holiday as we'd have wanted."

We could hear the hot tub, foot fall, chairs moving, the TV and the other guests talking from the apartment above. It would have also been good to have the court yard out the back of the apartment fenced off so dogs could be let outside without worrying about them wandering off. The location was great for those staying in South Lakes with the Old Man of Coniston on the door step. The pub that the apartment is associated with was a real gem. The staff were super friendly and helpful, made us and our dog feel welcome. The food was good and they serve a cracking pint with a lovely roaring fire. It was really good to see the locals from Torver supporting their local too. I reckon if they could sort out the noise issue from the apartment from the above and fence off the court yard then it would be a cracker for those wanting to stay in the South Lakes with their dog.
