    “We’ve stayed in a lot of ...”

We’ve stayed in a lot of cottages, and this is the best ever. Warm and comfortable was very important to us and that scored ten out of ten. Beds were very comfy too, and we were glad to find light quilts (with an extra cover if needed) rather than the heavy winter quilts in so many cottages. Showers brilliant! Lovely kitchen. Great location, away from it all with fantastic views. Plentiful supply of eggs and logs. Best thing though were our lovely hosts. Christine and Andrew couldn’t do ...

Great location, away from it all with fantastic views. Plentiful supply of eggs and logs. Best thing though were our lovely hosts. Christine and Andrew couldn’t do enough for us. We have stayed in cottages where everything is too much trouble. Not here. Generous supplies of everything from tissues to washing up liquid. We felt really well looked after, like guests rather than nuisances. Do hope we can go back soon. Please pass on our gratitude to the Gibson’s they were great.

Longwell Cottage is a stunning semi-detached character property built from local stone and located on a working farm within easy reach of Kendal in the Lake District.

With gorgeous views towards the Howgills, this superb farmhouse retains a wealth of original features from the 17th century.

Longwell Cottage is the perfect base for families and friends wishing to explore the beauty of the Lake District.

On entering Longwell Cottage, you'll find the original court cupboard dating from the 17th century in the hallway, before you enter the extremely spacious farmhouse kitchen.

This superb room really is the heart of the home with its wooden dining table and Aga, just perfect for kitchen suppers using the finest local ingredients.

Through the kitchen one way is the sitting room with log burner, and from here you climb an oak staircase to a smaller mezzanine sitting area that makes the most of those breathtaking views.

There's also a door out to a lovely, secluded terrace: just perfect for settling down with a good book or watching the sunset over the Howgills.

Back through the sitting room, there's a ground floor bedroom with twin beds and a separate shower room with separate basin and WC.

Up a second 17th century staircase, you'll find two further double king-size bedrooms one with zip/link beds which can be arranged as a twin room on request, and the spacious family bathroom with corner bath, separate shower, washbasin and WC.

The property has been sympathetically modernised to a very high standard but still retains a lovely characterful feel with all the modern comforts you could wish for.

In addition to the beautiful flagstone patio at the front of Longwell Cottage, there's the secluded and private second terrace and garden which is the perfect spot for some 'me time' with a glass of wine or a family meal alfresco.

There's generous off road parking and the rural setting, on a working farm, makes this the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Longwell Cottage is close to the vibrant market town of Kendal, famed for its mint cake, and there's a fine selection of shopping arcades, museums, historic buildings and excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Further afield lie all the treasures of the Lake District, an area of stunning natural beauty.

From Kendal, it's just 9 miles to Lake Windermere.

The Howgill Fells are superb walking territory with views over Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales and don't miss England's highest waterfall at Cautley Spout.

The Lake District is world famous for its breathtaking scenery and magnificent views, attracting poets and writers from Beatrix Potter to Arthur Ransome.

A perfect blend of the rural and the contemporary, the Lake District offers a paradise for walkers and a culinary destination for foodies.

Ideally located at the Southern gateway to the Lake District, Longwell Cottage is the perfect holiday home for a family break or a larger celebration when booked with Longwell House.
