  • "This is an excellent holiday cottage, in fact the best I've ever stayed in."

I cannot fault anything. The cottage is spotlessly clean, & the beds extremely comfortable. Christine & Andrew are lovely hosts, nothing being too much trouble. They have thought of everything, with little 'bits & pieces' in the property & a welcome hamper. The views are spectacular. There are 2 outdoor seating areas, & the property & grounds were bigger than I expected. Grandchildren loved playing with their dog, Mac. I have no hesitation in recommending this property & will definitely be looking to book again when returning to the Lake District. Thanks for making this a perfect 'home from home'.

  • "A very warm welcome awaited us at this absolutely beautiful cottage."

Christine and Andrew were exceptional hosts and could not have done any thing else to make our stay any more perfect. The bedrooms are all tastefully decorated, bright and extremely comfortable and the views from our bed, through the window, as the sun rose above the fields and fells were stunning; I am so missing that view! The large farmhouse style kitchen with the lovely Aga and large kitchen table was perfect, and included everything you could possibly need for cooking and enjoying delicious meals; we were 3 couples who decided to play 'Come dine with me' and while one couple cooked, the other 2 couples relaxed in the comfort of the spacious lounge, warmed by the delightful wood burner, playing games, discussing that day's walk and planning the next. We know how busy farmers are but we were so impressed when Andrew took the time out, from weighing and sorting lambs ready for market, to answer our questions and explain what the farm was all about whilst Christine was always concerned about our comfort and whether we had everything we needed. I can honestly say that this was the best cottage I have ever stayed in during my 30 or so years of cottage holidays here in the UK (and I have stayed in some amazing cottages) and hands down the most perfect hosts.

  • "This was our first staycation as we usually go abroad to stay with my husbands family."

We have two daughters (3&6) and also travelled with my mum who has been shielding since March. The quality of the accommodation surpassed all expectation. The cleanliness was exceptional and the house was equipped with absolutely everything we required. There were beautiful little touches everywhere where the owners had really put thought into making the house both aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable. The hosts were absolutely brilliant - friendly, accommodating, and informative. Our children adored being on a working farm and made firm friends with the chickens and sheep. The surrounding area was stunning, and gave easy access to Windermere, Coniston, and Rydal. We had the most amazing holiday, and are already looking to book our next stay at Longwell. Thank you!

  • "We had a very warm welcome from the hosts, and a lovely welcome pack."

The cottage is very thoughtfully laid out - the mezzanine with the picture window was a lovely surprise. The cosy farmhouse kitchen was very well equipped and large enough for us to gather together comfortably for meals. There was plenty of room inside and out for our family of 5 adults to spend time together and have quiet time apart. The beds were so comfortable, and it was great to have two bathrooms and there was always plenty of hot water. The location of the cottage is really good. The views are gorgeous. It is a short trip to a choice of supermarkets, shops and restaurants in Kendal, with local walks and cycle rides near to the cottage, as well as the Lakes, the Kent estuary and the Dales being within easy reach. We would love to return in the future.

  • "The accommodation at Longwell Cottage was absolutely superb."

We stayed with our son and his wife and our 3 year old grandson for 5 nights over the New Year period. The standard of the fixtures and fittings was excellent and the cottage was full of period characteristics mixed with contemporary luxury. The owners Christine and Andrew are on site and very pleasant and helpful, providing us with everything we needed together with a lovely welcome pack. The property is on a working chicken and sheep farm which our grandson found fascinating! The farm is immaculate and the surrounding views are stunning. We loved the log burner in the lounge which made the winter evenings lovely and cosy. Would thoroughly recommend Longwell to anyone and we would certainly love to go back and experience it in summer when it would be lovely to sit outside on the terrace and admire the views.

Christine and Andrew could not have done more for us, so welcoming and helpful. The cottage needs for nothing, well stocked and spotlessly clean. We had a very generous starter pack await us too. Being on a working farm meant that we were able to have a glimpse of real life on the farm and this was much to our little granddaughter’s delight. The view across the fields is so peaceful and many walks short/long are on the doorstep. Travel to and from the more tourist destinations are within easy reach by car. We had a most memorable holiday and we will hopefully return in the near future.

All were clearly of the standard that the owners would expect for themselves. Andrew and Christine were very welcoming and friendly and we appreciated the "welcome" pack we were left on arrival. As for the layout of the cottage, the view from the mezzanine floor was lovely and the two patios led themselves perfectly for a glass of wine in the afternoon. There was a walk from the cottage around the surrounding fields. Overall, a great holiday for four adults and two children.

It was a welcome that made us feel wanted as guests. As soon as we walked in the door any concerns we had soon disappeared, the décor and furnishings had been well thought out and there was everything you could need in various drawers. The use of the AGA was a bonus in a great kitchen along with a Hob, Microwave and an additional oven. What a joy to have a spacious well equipped kitchen to cook in ( That is of course if you like cooking) whilst looking over the rolling hills with lambs jumping around. It is a working farm and it was a pleasure to have stayed there. We and our family want to stay there again in the future. We came back totally relaxed after a very enjoyable stay. Thanks to the owners Christine and Andrew, we had a 5 star stay.

Warm and comfortable was very important to us and that scored ten out of ten. Beds were very comfy too, and we were glad to find light quilts (with an extra cover if needed) rather than the heavy winter quilts in so many cottages. Showers brilliant! Lovely kitchen. Great location, away from it all with fantastic views. Plentiful supply of eggs and logs. Best thing though were our lovely hosts. Christine and Andrew couldn’t do enough for us. We have stayed in cottages where everything is too much trouble. Not here. Generous supplies of everything from tissues to washing up liquid. We felt really well looked after, like guests rather than nuisances. Do hope we can go back soon. Please pass on our gratitude to the Gibson’s they were great.
