  • "We absolutely adore this cottage, we've stayed here a couple of times before and this time we re-booked for next year before our holiday was over!"

It's clean, cosy, full of character and has everything you need. The location couldn't be better either! The parking is a short stroll away and has always been safe and secure, the weekly ticket takes the hassle out of it too. The owner is also very nice and helpful and provides a lovely welcome pack on arrival (milk, tea, coffee, sugar and a cake). We highly recommend Bridle Cottage!

Difficult to read at night in bedrooms and lounge, suggest stronger light bulbs. Overall a lovely little cottage and we enjoyed our stay.

The cottage is superbly situated and spotlessly clean, there is everything provided to make a very comfortable and enjoyable stay, we would most definitely recommend a stay in this lovely cottage. Many thanks also for the delicious cake.

  • "We enjoyed our stay and it was a good base for our walking holiday."

The only downside was that we couldn't get the television to work even with the very complicated instructions. It wasn't a big deal as we were out most of the time but those seeking entertainment on a wet day might have a different view.

  • "We like Settle."

We have been there 3 times now with you. There are a few things we didn't like at this cottage. The open stairs, if you had small children with you, they might fall over the side. My wife and I didn't like the bottom of the stairs. It was on a bend and the steps very narrow on one side. We both have mobility issues and had to be careful. The bed was really comfortable and we had good restful nights sleep after a busy days exploring the beautiful area.

Warm and cosy certainly describe it well. Perfect base for two people wanting to walk in the western dales. Four people occupying the cottage for the whole week might be pushing it. Very pleasant stay, and I will recommend the cottage to other walking friends.

The cottage is very convenient for walks, shopping and visiting Skipton, the Three Peaks, Ingleton, Kirkby Lonsdale and more. We especially enjoyed using the log fire, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need and the bath is perfect for a relaxing post-walk soak. We did encounter a couple of issues but the property manager sorted these for us and she even picked up the phone late in the evening to assist us. Thanks for another wonderful stay - we will be back soon!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bridle Cottage."

The cottage itself was immaculate and spotlessly clean, very comfortable and cosy and everything to hand. The position of the cottage is just a few yards from the market square where there is an array of pubs and eateries. We would not hesitate in recommending a stay in this lovely little cottage.

  • "A very welcoming place with cake, biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided, as well as a few cooking essentials such as salt and pepper."

As we are walkers it is great to have this sort of thing provided. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything you might need for meal preparation. A comfortable bed and cosy sitting room, and an excellent shower. Everything was spotless. Lots of books and games if the weather was nasty - but we were lucky and it was good! The owner was very quick to respond to phone calls. Everything went very smoothly.

It is in a brilliant, central location for pubs/cafes and walks. The bed was super comfortable and the wood burner made our experience extra cozy. So kind to have been left a cake (which was delicious)/biscuits as well as milk ,for that all important cup of tea after travelling and unpacking! Also the range of books/games was welcome. Thank you

  • "Welcome pack was lovely, much appreciated thankyou."

The Cottage its self is tired looking shabby, sofa chairs repaint needed, extra little touches lighting.kitchen has everything you'd expect to find, little court yard at the back is so quaint. And the people of settle are so friendly and surrounding areas. Had a lovely week with the dog plenty of lovely walks down by the river. Good transport links within a minutes walk. Ingleton waterfalls is a great day out but has lots of steps so need to be fit. you can take the bus from settle to Ingleton. Went on the train to Carlisle beautiful scenery

Thank you for your comments regarding Bridle Cottage, and I'm pleased you enjoyed the cup of tea and piece of cake! Thank you also for the feedback which I'm always happy to receive as it is helpful in trying to maintain a standard that goes with a four tick cottage. I would just like to say that during the lock down imposed on us, I did take to opportunity to redecorate the property and update some of the furniture and rugs, to try to make it as comfortable as possible. I'm sorry you felt it missed the mark, but glad you enjoyed what Settle has to offer. Property Owner

As it is an older cottage off an alley the living room is rather gloomy - thought would be improved with some brighter lighting and decorating and accessories. Everything else good though.

  • "The way both the owner of the cottage, and Sykes Cottages handled the fact that construction was taking place during the visit was excellent."

The fact I heard from Sykes Cottages before hand, and the fact that the owner and Sykes Cottages offered a portion of the cost back, really soothed my nerves every time my brain was being rattled by drilling and banging. It turned what could have been a huge inconvenience and a nasty surprise into more of an "Oh well, such is life" sort of situation.

Thank you for your lovely review and understanding of the works ongoing next door. We aim to be as honest as possible and if anything is going to affect your stay, our owner's will always aim to ensure you are aware before travelling to avoid any disappointment on your holiday. It is very well equipped and the beds are very comfortable. The place is very clean and cosy especially when the log fire is burning. The cottage is down a side street very close to the town centre perfect for walking to the local pubs which are very welcoming. We parked in the local car park which is very close to the cottage and paid £15 for seven days so we could come and go as we pleased. The train station is within walking distance too. We found both the owners and Sykes cottages couldn't have been more helpful and we would highly recommend Bridle Cottage.

We arrived on a chilly Winters day and the cottage was very cold when we set foot in the door - we lit the log burner and turned up the central heating but it took a long time to heat the 3 floors. There were 3 of us and the position of the TV in the living room was such that it was difficult for all of us to watch it. We feel the cottage was overpriced in relation to others we have stayed in.

Apart from a single day of rain we had glorious weather for the end of August to enjoy walks and the views. Settle Carlisle rail trip was a highlight. The stairs were a bit precarious, but we managed. The boiler was quite noisy but again nothing that spoiled our holiday. The Cottage was well placed for the buses and the trains. We even managed to see the Dalesman steam train go through Settle. The only thing that marred an otherwise perfect week was the 2 day train strike which limited us to where we could go as we had come by train.

  • "The living room area is in need of redecoration."

It is a gloomy and dusty room with very poor lighting. I had to buy new light bulbs to brighten the room up as all lighting had low watt bulbs in and werent effective. Also TV and DVD player were very old . DVD player didnt work , had a loud buzzing sound and all the remote controls struggled to work as old / maybe batteries hadnt been changed for so long? Kitchen utensils need replacing. The chopping boards are so old theyve gone discoloured, which is awful. I feel the owner really needs to check over the downstairs of the house and put alot more effort and money into updating and replacing . I feel this cottage in current state should be no more than £400 per week and i feel paying £550 was very overpriced for what we got.

SETTLE

Malham 6 miles; Skipton 17 miles; Kendal 25 miles.

The bustling market town of Settle lies at the south west rim of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, nestled beside the largest outcrop of limestone in Britain - a region of scars, cliffs, caves and potholes - amongst some of the most picturesque scenery in North Yorkshire. Tuesday is market day in Settle, when the square is filled with stalls offering a wide variety of crafts and goods. The market place is surrounded by local businesses, the centre being dominated by The Shambles, an historic three storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool. The Victoria Hall has entertainment and other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Settle is in the midst of excellent walking country and is a good base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.
