  • "Beautiful cottage with all facilities needed for a holiday week."

10/10. Location 10/10. My family loved this cottage.

  • "We chose Bridge Howe because it had a downstairs bedroom which would make it suitable for my wife's 93 year old father."

We were very disappointed when we arrived to find that each room had a step up / down and the downstairs bedroom had two steps. The steps had no rails, nothing to act as any kind of indicator and weren't mentioned in the property profile. The property itself was lovely but if we'd known about the steps we wouldn't have chosen Bridge Howe.

  • "We’ve been coming to the Lakes for 20 years and Bridge Howe is by far the best property we’ve been lucky enough to stay in."

The house is just perfect, beautifully decorated, fully equipped (the little cinema is such a great addition) and the location is outstanding. Our children loved walking along to the rope swing on the path to Elterwater and paddling in the water with the ducks and swans. We can’t wait to return.

  • "Overall a great location of the property and good accommodation with TVs in all rooms."

Nice walks just behind the property which is a bonus and at the same time very quiet. The property is generally equipped well but it will be a bonus to leave a couple of extra toilet rolls in the bathrooms to avoid running last minute and perhaps a small pint of milk/sugar/tea to help the guests when they arrive until they familiarise with the place. We had some issues during our stay with finding the upstairs master bedroom bed slates broken so the bed was dipping which was sorted next day by the maintenance team on reporting. Also the toilet upstairs was fully blocked which we reported when we left, hope that was sorted for the next guests. One thing we suggested to put up a mirror on the driveway at the place of joining the road, there is zero visibility when coming out of the property and joining the road which may cause an accident. We couldn't use the BBQ and outside table on the deck as it was raining but would be a nice view on sunny days. Just to note that there is no flat garden space as such in the property if you are after a one with little children so be mindful of it.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the property. As this is a self-catering accommodation we only provide a starter set of toilet roll and do not provide welcome pack products as standard. We are glad that you enjoyed everything the property and area had to offer. Heart of the Lakes Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "This is easily the best holiday home we have stayed in!"

It’s in a beautiful and peaceful setting at the end of a track, surrounded by trees with a river running past. The house has been renovated to a very high standard and is very comfortable, spacious and so beautifully decorated. There are amazing walks right from the front door, and it’s lovely to return to Bridge Howe after a long walk. The TVs are huge, the TV package is great, and the kitchen has everything you need. Comfortable beds, sofas, and the shower was great too. We had a slight issue with the alarm going off in the night, but we reported it to the holiday company the next day who came out within 20 minutes to sort it out. We were very sad to have to leave and would love to come back again! Don’t hesitate to book this for your holiday!

  • "Absolutely beautiful house in great location."

Sufficiently off the beaten track to make for a peaceful stay but close to main towns if needed. The surrounding scenery is truly stunning and the house is beautiful inside and out with great facilities. There is loads of space and it has a light and airy feel throughout. The lovely weather enabled us to enjoy the amazing wrap-around, lucious garden and eat outside most days. There are loads of walks (easy and more challenging) from the doorstep and a good choice of places to eat and drink within a reasonable walking distance. Chesters is five minutes stroll along the river and definitely worth a visit. Probably one of the best properties we've stayed in over the years. It really was a magical, wonderful week. The one (very minor) issue we encountered was the outdoor security lights: they remained on all night during our first night and lit up the bedroom like a rugby stadium however, after a quick call to Lakelovers the following day, it was sorted within the hour. Some sharper "kitchen" knives would also be welcome but I appreciate this may be a safety issue. All in all, we had a grand week in this beautiful house set in a stunning 'forest-like' oasis and are planning to return.

  • "A lovely house in a beautiful position."

We have been here before and would very happily return. In May the azaleas in the garden are a picture. A note for the owner: the frying pan is too small for 6 guests. The outside lights were on all night and we could find no way of switching them off.

The house is wonderful, everything immaculate and extremely well thought out. So peaceful, wildlife abundant, we even had a stoat visit us, playing with the blowing leaves on the decking. Fabulous kitchen, we cooked and ate in in several occasions - very well appointed. Thank you for sharing your fabulous home with us, we hope to return in the near future.

The house is furnished to a high standard, giving a real ‘home from home’ feel as soon as you walk through the door. Outside seating space is ideal for when the weather is kind and lots of great walks, straight from the door. ‘Chesters’ for bread/cakes (5 min walk) plus ‘Britannia’, ‘Wainwrights’ and ‘Drunken Duck’ pubs all within 30/45 min walking distance. Will definitely look to book again in the future.

  • "An absolutely beautiful house and we had a great time."

There is not really enough lighting for reading in the TV room ( shades too dark). A few more small drinking glasses would be welcome. We did have a problem with green bin. The book of instructions says it will be collected ( it wasn’t). A note in the porch ( we saw this later) said it would be put at roadside by maintenance team on Saturday. We would have been happy to take it to roadside.

  • "Lovely location and well equipped cottage."

Owners have done a great job renovating it to a high standard. A couple of pointers for us though regards to quality and cleanliness for no is paid:- 1. Although house seemed to have been cleaned - cleaners need to regularly check beds even if not used and not assume it's clean as found hairs on towels we used from the other rooms and bathroom we stayed in. Also clean under sofas as snacks were visible and hadn't been swept up. Bedding such as pillows and quilt not the quality expected as wasn't great for comfortable night sleeps.

Thank you for taking the time to provide additional feedback following your stay at Bridge Howe. Please accept our apologies that the property was not cleaned to the standard you expected. If you had let us know we would have asked the housekeeping team to rectify the issues you found. Housekeeping team Property Owner

  • "A fabulous property however there were a couple of items that could be improved."

    1. Due to Storm Arwen we had no electricity for two days and no heating for three days - Although Storm Arwen is not your fault it would have been good to have some alternative form of heating and emergency lighting. 2. The track to the property need improving as there was the potential to damage the underside of our vehicles due to deep ruts in the track.

  • "A fantastic stay in a beautiful home."

The house had everything we needed, and was warm, clean and homely. We loved the large, well stocked kitchen for cooking, and the bedrooms were comfortable, with modern bathrooms. The location was fantastic for discovering the Langdales, Elterwater, as well as close enough to Ambleside for shopping and restaurants. The river/forest setting was beautiful, and it was lovely to be able to walk out of the back garden to the gorgeous Skelwith Falls and the family friendly walk to Elterwater. We'd love to go back some day.
