  • "We had an excellent week at Moss Cote, though the weather could have been nicer to us."

Very comfortable cottage in an amazing area - so much to do and see within a short distance.

Very comfortable accommodation in an area we love, have recommended it many times to friends.

I left the recycling by mistake for which I can only apologise. The single sleeping area is really nice and private and the bed is super comfy. Thankyou for your welcome and your care.

I would stay there again and have already recommended to a few people. The owner bought us a bottle of presecco to see the new year in as well as some other things. There was nothing that was too much trouble from the owners. A very pleasant stay, so we'll done to everyone.

Very clean with beautiful views from the living room and bedroom. Great location for visiting the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and the Trough of Bowland. The owners who live next door were very friendly and made us feel welcome.

  • "After the experience we had during Covid and lockdowns etc, we found your representatives totally unhelpful and at times downright rude."

We have stayed in numerous cottages with you and have paid on time. You previously, have been brilliant, however, we appreciate everyone has been struggling and that life hasn't been easy for anyone but we were charged a hefty increase which we were shocked and dismayed at. Due to Covid and lockdowns we had to move the dates of our holiday.... NOT OUR FAULT!!!!! We had at the point of the second change informed of this increase although we had PAID IN FULL. Even after we asked why for the increase, being told it was because of the time of year, we were not even allowed to cancel with a full refund of what we had paid. If we couldn't have afforded the increase, we were told that if we didn't go there would be no refund and we would lose all monies paid. It's a good job that we are not on just a state pension. We did enjoy the holiday but we will not be using Sykes Cottages again.

Lovely quiet residential area. Outside seating area overlooking owners beautiful garden, but not dog secure. Would return.

The owners who live next door are lovely, really friendly, checked to ensure all was good for us. Set in a perfect location, within easy reach of the coast, the lakes and the Yorkshire Dale's. Surrounded by beautiful gardens too, wonderful wildlife. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return. Thank you for a lovely relaxing week.

  • "We had a very pleasant 3 night stay, very restful location and fabulous views from lounge window."

Easy access to the Lakes and surrounding areas. Our only criticism is the outside area is not that pet friendly if you do not have an obedient dog...apart from that, we would definitely stay there again but leave the dog with family next time. Absolutely lovely owners!

Garden terrace excellent spot to take advantage of the easy to use bbq. Angela and Alan, the friendly owners who live next door are anxious to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. A lovely relaxing spot but within easy striking distance of all the Lakeland attractions. Having said that excellent walks available from front door or within a couple of miles in the car.

  • "The cottage was lovely apart from the steps down to it which were virtually impossible for disabled people, had to pass luggage over a wall onto the garden as couldn't get it down the steps, wouldn't be easy for able-bodied people getting luggage down."

This holiday was booked for last year when we were better able to manage this but was cancelled due to lockdown, sykes wouldn't cancel & refund just move to this year when both of us are now on walking crutches. This was the 4th time we have been with them but it will be the last as we think their attitude is appalling.

! Cottage was very comfortable and warm even with outside temperatures of minus 3. Bed was so comfy we had to force ourselves out of it. Great facilities and lots of room for the two of us and our dog and lots of lovely local walks and we will definitely return again when covid allows.

  • "Moss Cote was, I felt, an excellent choice for a peaceful get-away, especially in times of Covid."

The accommodation was reassuringly clean and uncluttered, whilst still comfortable and well-equipped. There is a lovely view from the big living-room window over the owners' garden to the hills and big skies beyond. There are plenty of opportunities locally for great walks - my favourites were the RSPB sanctuary at Silverdale, and the deer-park walk at Levens Hall.

  • "This bungalow is so spacious and comfortable with a full size well-fitted kitchen - we could live there happily!"

The views are lovely over the owners' beautiful garden to the trees and hills beyond and there is a pleasant sitting out area to the side. The owners are lovely, hospitable people who are there if you need them and they left local biscuits and fudge for us. Some things clients may need to know - no soap, one toilet roll, no foil or kitchen roll so you need to supply these if you need them. Salt and pepper is there plus sachets of coffee and sugar, UHT milk and teabags. The parking space was small but our Qashai just fitted without fouling the footpath. There is plenty of parking on the road outside in this very quiet area. The road up through Beetham is narrow so you need to find passing places - drive carefully as walkers, joggers and cyclists also use the road. All in all a very pleasant stay in an area where there is plenty to occupy a week or more and the weather was great. Happy to return.

There was water down ready for our dog and a tray of essentials of tea/coffee and milk if you arrived without shopping, not to mention the biscuits and fudge (husband really enjoyed the fudge). The owners were lovely people and we enjoyed our stay and would definitely re-visit.

About the location

Arnside 3 miles; Silverdale 6 miles; Kendal 7 miles.

Milnthorpe, once an important medieval market town, is located in the South Lakes between Kendal and Carnforth, just a few miles from the seaside village of Arnside. Reminders of the town's history can still be found today amongst the narrow lanes and historic buildings, which speak of a time when a coach and four was more common than a four-wheel drive. Set in lovely rolling countryside, the area has much to offer, with the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis offering a tropical hall and butterfly house. Dallam Tower and Levens Hall (historic and beautiful stately homes with their deer parks, topiary and ornamental gardens) provide a great day out for visitors. Leighton Hall, Sizergh Castle, the Great Lakes Aquarium, Windermere and Grizedale Forest are also all within easy reach and well worth a visit. From stunning limestone pavements and wonderful woodland walks to beaches and scenic coastal paths, there really is something for everyone.
