  • "Wayside cottage is the best property we have stayed in and we have been to an awful lot, the standard of the cottage and everything in it was first class, beautiful fixture and fittings cannot find any faults with the cottage."

So clean and cozy and cannot fault it one bit. Arrived to find plenty of fire wood for the log burner and the under floor heating already on. Yet another warm welcome from the pub across the road (Fox and Hounds). Will be booking again for next year.

  • "This is a lovely cottage, obviously renovated and equipped to a high standard but unfortunately it requires some maintenance."

When we arrived and for about 24 hours afterwards, there was a strong smell of heating oil in the first bedroom, we also found mould on the bedroom wall and around the window too. In the bathroom there had obviously once been an extractor fan as the hole was covered over, but this had caused significant mould in the shower tray and on the shower head, which my husband had to clean before use. The shower door wasn’t attached at the bottom and was only sliding on the top runners, so banged together as you moved it. There also seems to be quite an alarming leak with peeled paint on the kitchen ceiling which looks to be coming from the same bathroom. We also found only one battery in the TV remote, a flickering lightbulb in the sitting room and rather more cobwebs that we would have expected. We found it quite difficult walking round from the parking area to the door of the cottage, as it was a blind bend where traffic seemed to come around rather quickly. If possible the cottage would benefit from a gate through from the side of the patio doors to the parking. Although not specifically cottage related, we also found out the day before arriving that the Fox and Hounds was closed for a pre Christmas break. This was disappointing as been close to the pub was one of the reasons we booked Wayside Cottage, we also tried Cecilias Pizzas (menu in cottage information) but it was also closed until 1st December. As a said at the start of this review, you can tell this cottage has been very well renovated to a high standard with nice quality furnishings and fittings but is sadly let down by a lack of maintenance.

  • "All adults thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this clean, spacious and comfortable cottage …."

.especially the well equipped kitchen/diner with the large bi fold doors leading out into the garden. However, the shower room inside the main bedroom is in much need of re grouting and the shower head cleaning as the fan doesn’t seem effective enough. A small worry but not one which could not spoil a perfect walking holiday were the tight parking facilities for two cars and the dangerous corner leading from the side door round to the parking area , particularly on a weekend when the motor bikes come roaring through.

Super location with plenty of accessible paths up and down Wharfedale, on both sides of the river valley. Would highly recommend. Ideal for two couples. Thought it was listed for six but I may be wrong. Need to let the owners know their vacuum sounded like a jet engine so could not use. Think it needed a bag or something. Could not access House from parking area although there was a door.

Immaculately clean, with fantastic decor and first rate appliances. Kitchen and bathrooms have the wow factor, with both bedrooms having beautiful furniture and very comfortable beds. Good quality furniture in living room with a large TV and very effective log burner. Stayed over New Year and ate at local pub, the Fox and Hounds which we cannot recommend highly enough for both the food and friendliness of staff. The cottage is so popular that when we went in to book for next New Year's Eve, someone had already beaten us to it! Never mind, we'll try for the following year. The property on the Sykes website is classed as 4 star, but would definitely give it a 5+ star.
