  • "Our second stay here."

The property was clean, comfortable and very pleasant. The appliances were easy to use. The night storage heaters meant it was rather too hot for us at night, but we were otherwise happy with the temperature (we have different views of what is "comfortable" heat but were fine in the living area). Blackout curtains/blinds in the bedrooms would be a boon. Ideal for a short break in easy reach of Ulverston and the southern Lakes.

  • "If you're looking for tranquil, picturesque, chilled, beautiful, peaceful and astonishing then buttermere is the place for you."

I went for my birthday last week. I went with my husband and cousin. The log cabin was beautiful, clean, tidy, and perfect for us 3. The view outside was like something you see in a postcard of the lakes. There are hills for miles. Wildlife out side your door and everything is a short drive away. The cabin itself had everything we needed. The living area was cozy and comfy and the bed rooms were perfect. The bed was really comfy even the pillows, I have stayed in a few places and this was by far the best. I would certainly recommend staying here to any and everyone. I had an amazing week. Thankyou.

  • "When first arrived the area was beautiful cabin looked good."

First thing that greeted us was dirty ashtray. Rest of cabin was clean neat and tidy. Cups had to be washed before use and you wouldnt cook in oven ware without good clean. Oven door did not close and couldnt read dials but we didnt intend to cook anyway. Wasnt much info in cabin telling you where bins were or just WiFi and heating instructions nothing else. All but one leaflets out of date and magazines years out of date. We had to connect tv aerial and tune TV. Had to be careful in shower as water took ages to go down and would flood bathroom if you were not careful. Shame just little details that needed attention. We didn't inform the owner we ought to have but these where not new problems and we didnt spend much time there and didnt want any hassle. A warning on how hot the water was could be handy.

  • "The actual lodge was tiny."

That's OK but for a tiny lodge it was still dirty. The frying pan was unwashed, the floors were dirty, the tops of the wardrobes were very dusty, the lampshades were dusty and one of the pictures had come adrift in its frame. As a base for doing other things, it was situated in a good location. The actual gardens it was in were very tranquil and lovely to sit in. The bed. This was tiny. My wife and I had the space of a pillow width each to move around in and, invariably, it was tight and uncomfortable at night with some heroic bruises. I have arthritis and the space made it impossible to get really comfy so I spent a couple of nights on the small sofa. The DVD had no remote that I could find so that went by the by. The TV was ok though. Further Niggles: The cabin was VERY dark and I had trouble shaving in the bathroom. The small light in the kitchen was flickering on and off constantly. The oven had the control printing virtually faded off so it was touch and go making food. Ended up burning food as the fan oven feature that was so hard to make out turned out to be a grill. Also, no working bulb in it. The shower was nice but the door kept popping off its runners. And no washing machine. The general consensus? The lodge was a good base. Apart from its flaws it was warm and easy to access with basic facilities. Was it good value? We got it for a good price and it was worth it. Just fix the niggles! I don't like publishing them but as an honest review I would be remiss not to mention them.

  • "We had a great holiday, the log cabin was lovely and the setting/gardens were so peaceful."

The kitchen was well equipped, and eating out on the veranda most evenings was perfect. The mattresses were very comfortable with memory foam, and the goose down duvets very cosy, although a little warm in the latter part of our second week when the temperature was in the mid-20s. But having such great weather was a bonus so definitely cannot complain. The only suggestion is to improve the lighting in the bedroom and bathroom, I found it tricking putting my contact lenses in. The location was perfect, great for our many visits to Lake Coniston, and no where was very far. Great two week holiday.

  • "The chalet was in the most beautiful garden."

It was so quiet, just the humming of bees and small birds song. It had everything we needed, even a caserole dish with a lid. It was clean and lovely and the curtains and blinds were thich enough to keep the rooms dark enough to sleep in. Read the info on the bins and the storage heaters. If you go for walks take some insect repellant, and sun cream even if its cloudy. I think those pesky little things that look like house flies actually bite! Dont be tempted to get your first dinner from Crakeside Fish & chips unless you like soggy chips and oily batter. I would love to stay there again.

Was perfect for us with a toddler. Big grounds to let the toddler burn off steam each day and enjoy seeing the sheep on the hills close by. Facilities in the house were great. Everything you need for your stay. Fridge with little freezer provided which was very handy. Towels and all the essentials provided. Nice selection of leaflets to browse through of things in the area and beyond. Greenodd village just a 2 min drive away. Beautiful walks around the area and a great base for visiting many Gardens, Castles and Parks. If you want a relaxing peaceful location, this is it. Nice outdoor seating - perfect for summer months. Easy to find location. All additional notes on the booking form were helpful in locating the property - tucked away. Owners very approachable and there if you need any help with regards to the property. Great idea for key access. Overall beautiful place. Will certainly be returning.

  • "The facility is in need of some TLC."

There were cobwebs in all rooms in the ceiling point. The upholstery was stained and needed cleaning. The kitchen table was sticky to touch even after a clean. The carpet was thin and thread bare and had a rip on the join with the kitchen flooring. The toilet flush wasn’t strong enough, needing 2 to satisfy. The WiFi didn’t work at all either. The bedding was lumpy, not sure if due to age or choice of filling. The exterior path to the cabin was over grown. This made the path narrower and when wet difficult to pass as the stone wall had to be used as a step which got slippery when wet.

A very cosy, tasteful interior which benefits from an abundance of natural light. I visited during a very cold spell in May 2019 but I was able to keep snug due to the excellent heating system. Its is evident that in warm / hot weather, the nicely equipped terrace would be a pleasure to sit on and provide a great view of the tranquil and stunning grounds. A little patch of heaven. The proprietors are helpful, close by if needed, but very unobtrusive. I recommend Buttermere unreservedly and hope to return.

About the location

GREENODD

Ulverston 4 miles; Coniston 11 miles.

The small village of Greenodd rests on the estuary of the River Leven, within the Crake Valley, on the borders of the Lake District National Park. Once an 18th century shipbuilding centre and a significant commercial port, exporting locally quarried limestone, gunpowder and copper, Greenodd today is effectively a cul-de-sac with a selection of shops and a local pub, The Ship, which provides a visible link to the village’s history. The ancient market town of Ulverston is just 4 miles away, famous for its street markets and festivals, and boasts a wide range of shops, pubs and leisure facilities. It is also home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world. This is a great location for a walking holiday and all the attractions of the National Park are within easy reach, including Coniston and Windermere, as is the beautiful Furness Coast with its golden beaches and good birdwatching opportunities. An ideal location for enjoying fantastic coastal and countryside pursuits.
