Everything is of the highest standard and most importantly CLEAN!!! It's the first place we have been to in the last 3 years that is wonderfully clean - thankyou! It is in a very beautiful, picturesque area, a pity we couldn't have some better weather but nothing could dampen the delight of spending time here.

  • "This Barn Conversion is superbly finished very comfortable place to stay and enjoy in it's own right."

It has everything you could need for an enjoyable holiday, nestled in beautiful countryside. The bedroom is luxurious, very comfortable with it's own bath and a large adjacent shower room. The hot tub outside is fun to use and not complicated - a Wood burner heats the water and takes about 3 hours to get up to temperature on it's first run, however it retains heat and is quicker the next time. Just be careful getting in and out as can be slippery. The view from the living room window is second to none and probably one of the best in the locality. You will never get bored of looking across the hills, no matter what the weather is doing it always has something interesting to show you. If you like to watch TV while relaxing this is possible with a number of TV Channels available including Netflix movies. There is some lagging with some channels but we could always find something when needed to be honest only used it occasionally. The general area has plenty to Offer Skipton, Haworth are well worth a visit - Bronte country. There are a plenty of area to walk which are not too challenging. We would definitely recommend this cottage and would return if possible. There are plenty of places to eat locally offering good tasty treats. I would in particular encourage others to try The Emmott Arms who do a fantastic Sunday roast and not too expensive. The hosts Greg and Theresa are very approachable and helpful willing to provide assistance where required and certainly helped us out with information and more ! A great place to stay in the lovely English countryside with very friendly hosts -could not recommend more really:)

  • "This is a fantastic place to stay in the most peaceful surroundings."

The cottage is of the very highest standard throughout, fully equipped with everything you could need to make this a true home from home, but without all of the stresses that you always hope to leave behind when on holiday. The wood fired hot tub is a wonderful and relaxing extra touch, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the surroundings, and forget the real world for a while. The owners are as perfect as the house, there and willing to help with anything you might need, but discreet enough to forget they are nearby at all other times. When you factor in the location of the property on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, with fine walking, great food and places to visit all close by, you would be very hard pressed to find a better place to stay. Oh, and I forgot to mention the visiting deer, barn owl, hares and curlews, amongst many others. Absolutely perfect.

  • "Location fantastic, however I must say I feel the 'luxury' elements of this stay fell far below the standards I would expect."

The fancy shower, which is used as a selling point in the listing, can really only be used on a standard setting as the water pressure is so poor and hot water temperature hit and miss. We understand that this is due to the remote location, however this should not then be being used to advertise the stay. The hot tub, whilst pleasant, was not as clean as I had expected, and the lid required a lot of manual effort to take off (literally needed to be dragged onto planks). On the whole the cleanliness was ok, but the top of the wardrobe, windowsills, and mattress were all dusty. This could have been overlooked however given the extremely specific and strict cleaning guidelines given by the hosts to guests, I would expect a completely immaculate property. With regard to this cleaning policy, a lot is expected of guests on check-out, not only stripping the bed, but sorting bedding and towels into specific laundry bags, cleaning the oven, and wiping all surfaces. This is again not what I would expect from an apparently 'luxury' stay. This was claimed to be due to covid, but we have stayed other places at much lower price points during much worse periods of the pandemic and we were not expected to clean the property for the next guests! We also paid a £300 good housekeeping bond before arrival, from which the hosts initially deducted an extremely harsh £45 to pay for: one prosecco flute broken by accident, two small led torches that we packed with our things by mistake (and notified the hosts of this), an egg cup which they later found, and £15 for the time taken to locate replacements. When I politely queried this by email (£5 for one prosecco glass, and £15 for time spent finding torches I found in 30 seconds on amazon seemed steep), the hosts became extremely unpleasant, aggressive and rude. I feel they responded in this manner due to the fact that they know we are two young women, and I highly doubt they would speak to other guests in this manner. Unfortunately, this has left a really sour taste to what was supposed to be a relaxing luxury honeymoon in lieu of the trip abroad cancelled due to covid, and I feel very sad that this will now be associated with my memories of the trip. Overall, I therefore cannot in good faith recommend this property despite the location and promised facilities, and urge other guests to look elsewhere in the area.

Receiving malicious feedback like this is upsetting and clearly at odds with the views of everyone else who has stayed with us. It is even at odds with feedback from this lady sent by text the day after her departure in which she says: “Thanks for a lovely stay”. At the heart of this feedback is an issue over replacing damaged / missing items and an assertion that in dealing with this issue we have discriminated against these guests on the basis of gender and age. We are appalled by the suggestion of discriminatory behaviour, which we would never entertain, and again we have a text from this lady stating: “… please feel free to take the cost from [my] bond and accept my sincere apologies”. To address the specific points: * On the Sykes listing the shower is deliberately referred to as a “rain shower” rather than power shower acknowledging we do not have mains water pressure * There is nothing wrong with the hot water – there is no hot water tank, the boiler generates hot water on demand * We are specific in the Sykes listing to describe the hot tub as a “traditional wood fired hot tub not a jacuzzi” * The hot tub it is emptied and cleaned between each and every guest booking, and the water chemically treated, to ensure there is no health risk to our guests * The property is professionally cleaned so we’d be surprised if there was excessive dust present * As part of our COVID procedures on checkout we ask guests to bag their bedding and towels (so we don’t come into contact with them) which then go into quarantine for three days before we wash them * As part of our checkout procedure, we do ask guests to leave the property clean and tidy as they found it We take great pride in the standards we set and the high-quality facilities we offer at Shawclough Barn; we always go the extra distance for our guests and are proud to have been awarded our VisitEngland 5 Star accreditation for our amenities and professional approach to the provision of self-catering accommodation. Inside the cottage the descriptive photos did only do ‘half justice’! The picture window by the dining table again the eyes feasted on the fantastic view, the enormous laid back settee was ideal for relaxing or for watching television ( including’Netflix’ ) Heavy drapes for windows and doors give a high quality feel and the co-ordinated light fittings created from the shuttles from weaving mills was an ingenious use of recycling!! Really useful storage space under the stairs with coat hooks, 3 types of recycling bags, emergency torch ( and umbrella!), vacuum cleaner, ironing board and still enough space for our plastic storage crates in which we had brought our food stuff dry goods and two cool boxes! Going up the beautifully finished staircase to the ‘galleried landing’ light came in through ‘Velux’ windows ( with roller blinds) The Shower Room, walk in luxurious shower, his and hers basins, etc. Super comfy bed , large wardrobe, storage galore, and the freestanding roll top bath !! We've had the best nights sleep, and the log burner made it cosy and warm. The hot tub was a log burning one, of witch we've never seen, however Greg did start it up and got it up to temperature, it was lovely when we got in and enjoyed it, however you have to get out to put more logs on to keep the temperature, it used a full bag of logs to get it started, we could have bought more logs at £10 a bag. Theressa and Greg were there on hand and they couldn't do enough for you, we will be returning.

Lovely to see you both last week, thanks for the fabulous feedback and we look forward to seeing you both again. Can I just clarify one point regarding the hot tub for future guests reading our feedback. Normally the hot tub will be up to temperature on arrival for our guests, on this occasion we heated the tub up after your arrival due to bad weather. The wood we use to do this is at no extra cost to guests and a complimentary bag of logs (kindling and firelighters) is then left by the hot tub for guests as a starter pack to keep the tub at temperature. • "The cottage was absolutely beautiful and the perfect place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary."

The owners were so lovely and had thought of everything you could possibly need. They went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay - leaving a bottle of prosecco in the fridge, helping us with walking routes and also lighting the hot tub for us so that it was ready to get in after a day out walking! We really enjoyed our stay, it was so relaxed and peaceful and we'd definitely return one day.

  • "As this property is comparatively new to the holiday letting arena, there were one or two minor points or teething troubles which we took up with the owner who welcomed and encouraged feedback."

It was however a lovely week in a beautiful cottage with great facilities in a scenic location and should prove very popular.

  • "We had a lovely week at Shawclaugh Barn."

It was just perfect for two with comfy sofa, and little kitchen with everything we needed. Our host was kind enough to have the fire going, some little extras like quality ketchup, mayonnaise, milk, butter, bread and a bottle of prosecco in the fridge and the hot tub ready. The barn’s location was good for us and we enjoyed visiting Haworth, Skipton and walked along the Liverpool Leeds Canal. There were many good local restaurants and pubs.

  • "The photos are great but still dont do this property justice."

We have stayed in a lot of cottages but this one was special. 7 days was not enough! Cottage is really well equipped, beds really comfy, whole cottage cosy and Theresa and Greg were lovely and there to help if needed (helped us plan walk) but also gave you totally privacy too . Good pub within walking distance and good supermarkets and shops a short drive away. Spectacular location and views.100% recommend to anyone.

  • "We had a lovely few days at the Shawclough barn."

The cottage is extremely well maintained, very clean and beautifully decorated. The views from the large windows are amazing and this is also one of the few properties available where you can also enjoy the beautiful open views from the hot tub. Despite being set in open fields, the barn is very private and located near to everything you would need, there are shops and a supermarket a short drive away and a lovely pub within walking distance. Plenty of places to go and things to do if you are so inclined, or if you'd rather just stay home and chill out the barn is a more than comfortable place to do just that. The barn was fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay, the shower room is lovely and although we didn't use it, the bath in the bedroom is a nice touch. The owners kindly supplied a few basics for our arrival including some milk, butter and nice bread etc, plus a little something extra in the fridge. Something that wasn't mentioned in the listing which I think should have been is that fact that it is a wood burning hot tub. It was our first time using a wood burning tub it took us a bit of getting used to. The owners will light the fire before you arrive but after that you need to relight it and maintain it yourself or if you go out you need to contact them and ask them to do it for you, otherwise it won't be warm enough for you to hop straight in when you arrive back. We found it took about an hour to get up to our preferred temperature. Also, the lid of the tub is very heavy and awkward to lift, it takes two people to lift it, so if either of you are unable to do heavy lifting you will struggle with it. We managed just fine, but I think future guests should be made aware as it is completely different to the types of hot tub we have been used to at other cottages where the lid can easily be removed by one person. There are also no bubbles/jets, this didn't bother us at all (we like the quiet) but it might be something that future guests would like to be aware of. The wood burner gives off a beautiful smell though, and once you are in it's a very private tub with no disturbances, apart from the odd whinnying pony in the next field! Overall, a beautiful place. I would definitely recommend it for a relaxing getaway.

Thank you for your kind feedback and I am pleased you had such a lovely stay. We take great pride in the barn and agree that it's in a beautiful area! I am sorry you had some difficulties with the hot tub and the owners would happily have helped if we had known you were struggling in any way. We have spoken with the owners who have confirmed a one or two-person operation can be achieved by sliding the lid easily into position rather than lifting. We have not had such issues reported before but we appreciate your comments and have added a note to make it clear that this is a wood fired hot tub as we understand there are many different types Property Owner
