  • "We enjoyed our holiday but the house was a base, it wasn’t the home comforts that we’ve been used to before from other Sykes cottages."

The location was good, we could see the Blackpool tower from the front garden and the promenade was a 25 minute walk away. It was on a very busy main road though with constant traffic, including a lot of police cars going past with horns blaring. The parking out the front of the house is a tiny gap between a bus stop and double yellow lines - not wide enough for our car so we had to park quite far down the road which isn’t ideal with 2 small children. The house was comfortable, the living room with sofas and tv was fine, as was the dinning room with games area and the kitchen was well equipped. Our overall experience was let down by the cleanliness of the house, very dirty around the edges, 2 of the bedroom lamps didn’t work, there was a picture hanging off the wall in the dishing room, the curtain pole in the living room fell down twice over our stay, the window in the small bedroom opened and then wouldn’t close again, the side of the bath was coming off, the front door was a little tricky to close and the paint in the kitchen near the light switch was all chipped and looking very tired. Like I say, we did enjoy our holiday but this holiday home needs quite a bit of TLC to bring it up the the standard that I think people expect when on holiday.

Great house spotlessly clean, well maintained house and gardens. Comfortable beds and everything provided for an enjoyable stay. Found plenty of parking on the road outside the house. Good communication and information sent in the welcome pack and all queries promptly answered.

  • "Had a great stay, my home was being renovated so we were there almost 4 weeks and they extended our stay quite a few times to accommodate us when the work took longer than expected."

House was as per the pictures, warm and cozy. Took 2 teenagers with me and the internet was strong enough for their PS5 and Xbox, phones, laptop etc. smart tv was big and I easily signed into all my apps. Shower was strong good, a few necessities left like tea bags and sugar although the coffee was rock hard. A few items needed for future guests: draining board, back door mat, smaller sharp knives, more cutlery, instructions for bin collections - they come on a Monday - had to ask the neighbours re colours to put out. And last but not least the dryer constantly beeps when in use, it drives you mad, looked it up and it’s a fault with the dryer - no point reporting it as I’d be stuck without a dryer. Other than these few tweaks I’m sure will now be sorted, it was a really good stay, house easily would sleep 6 and perfect for a family vacation in Blackpool.

  • "We were very disappointed by the level of hygiene and cleanliness in this property."

The fridge, cooker and microwave were all dirty and cover in dried in food. The skirtings throughout the property were covered in dust and had never been wiped down in a long time. We had our grandson with us who is at the crawling and nearly walking stage so touching these dirty skirtings meant we had to clean them asap. I got in touch with the owner who said the cleaning crew had been in and cleaned the property before our arrival but she would get someone out to clean cooker etc. I think the owner needs to check the level of cleaning in her property and that what she thinks is being done before new clients go in is being done. This is the first Sykes property we have gone to that we would never go back to.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear of your disappointment. Our cleaners have confirmed that the fridge and microwave were indeed cleaned prior to your stay. Traces of food on the cooker can very occasionally be found under the rings on the hob, which the cleaners lift every so often and clean underneath. We are sorry to hear about the dust on the skirting boards; our cleaners tend to do a great job vacuuming on each changeover, however it may have been missed on this occasion. We understand the cleaners attended as quickly as possible to put things right for you during your stay. Thank you again for your review. Property Owner

The house was very basic and in need of a deep clean. the floors were dirty, all glass and mirrors had been wiped with a dirty cloth. The bathroom floor covering was filthy and all silicon round bath black On opening the bathroom cabinet the mirror door fell off, also lock on bathroom door fell off. There is no mattress and pillow protectors used and the mattress had sweat stains. Mop and cloths left outside in yard..

  • "Door code given was wrong, finally got correct code and no key in Keysoe, found key under door mat."

On first sight looked clean but on further inspection skirtings had thick dust on, front door was filthy (have taken photos). Garden patio to rear was awful, broken fencing with nails sticking out in various places, brambles coming through up pathway fencing and even what looks like dog poo in one place. Opened back gate to a gated back driveway with garages that is locked at one end and full rubbish bins everywhere. Paperwork says bins emptied every Monday but no way have these been emptied for a long time. Clock in sitting room said 3.15 all week as battery dead also temp unit I dinning room has dead batteries in. Window sills in sitting room are mouldy. My youngest dropped a small ball which rolled under the long sofa and we found jelly beans, a toddlers sock, empty sweet packets and an empty plastic pants packet. The bi-fold door to the kitchen has a large handle so door can't fold properly and also hits into the worktop if not careful. Instructions said gas cooker but in fact the hob is gas and the oven electric. We didn't use the washing machine e or dryer so can't comment on these. Bathroom shower glass is unsafe as moves and toilet seat is ill-fitting. Cheap IKEA type bedroom furniture and awful black and white cheap prints on walls, 3 the same in different rooms. Plenty of car parking - there is a bus stop outside house so no parking, one place to park but was told the silver car has been there for 3 weeks. Can't park in side roads as Parking Permit for Residents only. On the good side beds were clean and comfy, towels clean and fluffy. Double bed is only a small double so only suitable for 2 small people or a single larger person so my son had this room. My son tried the PlayStation which worked fine. We got the trivia game out but there was no dice so couldn't play this, the other game has timer missing.

There was also a football and pool table for my sons to play on. The property itself was very clean, spacious and we had everything we needed the owners even left us some tea, coffee, sugar and condiments so we didn’t need to buy any. The beds were very comfortable to sleep

  • "Lovely property, very clean and warm."

Super comfy double bed. Ample parking outside (on 'first come' basis but we had no issues parking right outside the house). Lovely owners who had left some essentials (milk, teabags, sugar, cooking oil, washing up liquid, kitchen & toilet rolls) and supply a very useful welcome document (shows local places to eat & visit). Property is about a 15 min walk from central pier and the town center so not far at all. Perfect for exploring Blackpool. Only downside was that a small part of the backyard fence needs repairing as you can see into next doors yard & vice versa (this was not an issue for us as its winter so we didn't sit outside but may be an issue in the warmer months). All in all VERY happy and would defo stay again when in Blackpool.

  • "When using the shower upstairs there was a really bad eggy smell coming from the drain in the sink in the kitchen, this was also the case when we used the washing machine."

Apart from that everything else was really good, really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends and family, if we ever come for a longer stay we would try and rebook this property. One thing we did miss was a set of drawers to place small items of clothing like underwear would have been great and a small light in the bedroom with the bunkbeds. Loved all the little touches like the tea towel (could have been doing with 2 though for the week) and also another pot a bit bigger than the one provided, we did have a big pot but when we went to cook spag bol we would have used the big pot provided for the spaghetti then another pot just a little smaller for the sauce, the next pot down was too small so we had to make the sauce put it in a casserole dish and keep it warm in the oven, wash out the big pot and cook the spaghetti.

  • "The house was fine but the pictures did it more justice than when we arrived."

The place was not that clean and there was mould in the freezer the floors were not clean and same with the bathroom. I paid a lot of money and feel i was charged to much for what it was. The back yard was not safe for kids as there was broken fence/wall and I couldn't let my little ones play in the yard. That house was ok but not worth the money in my option. I did message the owner and they did offer to get someone out to clean it but I refused as I didn't feel comfortable having all my stuff in there then someone having to come and clean it. Also the heating had been completely turned off and took me a few hours to sort it.

BLACKPOOL

Lytham St Annes 6 miles; Preston 17 miles.

Blackpool is famous for being a seaside resort on England's north west coast. The town is on the Irish Sea, between the Ribble and Wyre estuaries, 17 miles north west of Preston. Blackpool has been fashionable as a holiday resort since the mid-18th century when it became fashionable in England to travel to the coast in the summer to improve well-being. Blackpool's seven mile sandy beach and promenade are still a popular attraction today with donkey rides, fish-and-chip shops and theatres. Other landmarks include the Blackpool Tower, Blackpool illuminations, the Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Water Park, the Winter Gardens, Blackpool Zoo, or take a ride on the first generation tramway the only surviving one in the UK. Nearby the seaside towns of Lytham and St Annes-on-Sea nestle along a picturesque stretch of coastline lined with pretty parks, whilst walkers and twitchers will adore the rolling sandy dunes of St Annes-on-Sea and the Ribble Estuary providing a safe haven for more than 250,000 migrating birds that return each winter. The area is internationally renowned for golf with seven courses to choose from, the most notable being the Royal Lytham & St Annes Old Links Golf Club, one of the host courses for the Open Championship. Boating, cycling, shopping and swimming can all also be enjoyed nearby, along with award-winning restaurants, traditional pubs and wine bars should you fancy celebrating.
