  • "We had a wonderful last minute stay and loved every minute."

Downstairs is spacious and open plan, the fire is lovely and there's plenty of room upstairs. We came with our 18 month old and did need a travel cot but there was a highchair for us to use. There's lots on the doorstep including Hawkshead brewery, shop and pub and it's really not far from Windermere. We'll be back!

Happy to hear you had a wonderful last minute holiday. We hope you can return to Hugill very soon. Regards Helen & Graham (Owners) Property Owner

We had such a lovely weekend and the cottage was perfect. Really cosy with the log burner on in the lounge, nice big kitchen and fabulous comfortable beds! Ideal location with lots to do near by. Loved the bottle of wine that was left for us too. Really lovely touch. Thank you. Would definitely recommend to others and hopefully return again soon!

  • "The house was lovely perfect for us as a family, room's were large and comfortable, beds very comfy."

Kitchen excellently stocked, bright and sunny we loved the enclosed garden area. Nice and spacious and very central to everything in Staveley. Only a Couple of small areas, the entrance and living area always smelled very doggy (we aren't pet owners) maybe a couple of plug ins? I bought a spray but didn't hide the smell. And bathrooms could use some more cleaning around the taps, very black and mouldy. Other than that the house was lovely, some very nice accessories in the paintings and local ornaments etc. I'd recommend the house for sure.

Thank you for your review of Hugill and that you found the cottage spacious and comfortable. We do welcome dogs to the cottage, and sometimes in very wet weather they can leave a bit of an odour, if not thoroughly dried but we have sourced extra fresh blankets and do have them cleaned each visit. The bathrooms have also been addressed, they are always cleaned thoroughly each visit. Best wishes. Helen & Graham. Property Owner

The house was warm and welcoming. The decor fresh and modern, we enjoyed a bar meal at the local pub, which had the bonus of a roaring fire. We would certainly recommend this property. I was expecting logs to be supplied as it states fuel provided on your website. The Spar shop was very convenient.

  • "Hugill Cottage is a lovely holiday cottage."

It's well appointed, clean and spacious. The huge bed in the back bedroom was lovely and comfortable. I really appreciated having blinds and heavy curtains to block out the early morning light. The only down side is, as the property is situated on the main street, vehicle noise is an issue in the early morning and there wasn't a teapot! We bought one in a charity shop. The location is ideal for taking the train to Kendal or Windermere. The village has good facilities but Booths in both of these towns is wonderful! There are fantastic walks in all directions or just a short drive away. Very enjoyable stay.

  • "Forgive me for taking so long to share my thoughts on my wonderful holiday home in the delightful Lake District village of Staveley."

Have been staying in the Lakes for 20+ years, and this was 'comfortably' the most impressive place in which I've stayed. From the front door and entrance, to the rear garden and patio, it had been refurbished and equipped to standards which absolutely met my own ... and that's never previously happened in a holiday let. Ideal location within the village, with the coffee shop which specialises in Peruvian blends and the authentic gelato parlour, the 'chippie', butcher, Hawkshead beer-hall and the Eagle & Child all nearby. Parking outside, the bus stop at the end of the road and, for those who know Staveley's layout, the train station just a short stroll away. Perfectly positioned for access via the A591 to Windermere, and those who prefer grass to tarmac will also be delighted by its positioning. In short, it should be seen as a home from home, and certainly not 'just' as a holiday let. When I next return to the Southern Lakes, it will be Hugill Cottage for me. Cheers. Ian Halstead

  • "I want to be able to recommend this property, because it ticks most of the boxes - right in the middle of Staveley village (though if you don't like proximity to traffic, you might find it a bit noisy); a very nice layout, with large kitchen/dining area and decently equipped; a good outside space, if a bit overlooked; and good facilities (smart TV, two woodburners etc) although more books/games and perhaps a welcome pack would have given a more homely feel."

Two of the bedrooms are good--the master is very nice--while the third struggles to accommodate the double bed. However, our visit was marred at the outset by what sounded like construction work being undertaken next door on the Fri evening and all day Saturday from 8am, accompanied by the doof-doof of dance music. When I contacted Sykes Cottages about the issue on Sat morning, I found them very sympathetic, but it took a follow-up call later in the afternoon to get things resolved. I just have doubts about the soundproofing in the property, which for me is a bit of a deal-breaker. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you, Hugill Cottage is a good choice in the village. Also, I should say that the property had not been cleaned brilliantly well (it was still being readied when we turned up at 4.10pm), and we were left only half a toilet roll, which I found a bit surprising.

We are sorry that you experienced a noise issue, the neighbour did apologise and stopped the work right away. The walls of the cottage are two foot thick, and deal well with day to day noise. The drilling was due to work in the loft which is now complete. Thank you for your comments. Property Owner

We loved the log burning fire and the beautiful lounge, decor and pictures. Well equipped kitchen and lovely outdoor space. Perfect spot in the middle of the village nearby lots of interesting shops and walks. This is a beautiful holiday home and the owner went to so much effort to make our Christmas stay special and was prompt in answering any queries. A few more cups and glasses and a better hoover as we were staying for 2 weeks would have been even better but this is one of the nicest holiday homes I have stayed in and we have already booked again for next year.
