  • "We were happy with our stay."

The house provided everything we needed for us to have a quiet family Christmas. The shops are incredibly convenient. Getting out by 9 having stripped beds and taken out the rubbish was a bit of a challenge!

  • "As we had previously stayed at this cottage on 3 occasions we had hoped for a great stay."

However upon arrival it was quite obvious that the general up keep and cleanliness was not acceptable. Extractor fans choked with dust, layers of dust almost everywhere, fixtures and fittings tired and worn. We had to purchase cleaning products to use, for example, the downstairs shower head and door were filthy. Middle bathroom, shelf above mirror had loose wires and caked on dust. Kitchen radiator was splashed with red wine or the likes. During the difficult times we have all lived in over the last 20 months cleanliness is vital and expected. If not financially locked in we would have checked out and booked elsewhere. Not our final visit to Ulverston but with a heavy heart we will not return to Butlers Yard.

Central to Ulverston and quiet. Great location for exploring southern area of Lake District. Good service from Howard who helped with heating issue. Would we use again? Yes.

  • "The cottage is very central location could not be better."

The cottage is very well equipped . As there was no garden could have done with a clothes maiden to dry washing as we couldn’t work the dryer. Our only complaint was it needs a good dust, eg window sills, shelves and in the bathroom eg toilet roll holder.

  • "Broadband has been changed to Plusnet and was dodgy at the start but was good during our stay, operated wifi, mobile and Netflix."

New washer dryer, but we didn't use it. We found the middle support post from the ground floor bed needs re-attaching. The bed was okay without it for our stay as only one person was in it. We could only recycle our paper and card waste. Had to take back home bags of plastic bottles, glass and tins. Would appreciate some method of being able to recycle these. The sanitiser dispensers were hard to operate, especially by children. As last time, found the owner Howard helpful. He contacted us the night before to ask if we would arrive a little later, and we agreed a compromise for check-in and check-out times. Have always found it a little rushed on the morning to check-out for 9am, after removing all the bed linen, towels to downstairs and the rubbish. We succeed but will be pleased when the checkout is moved back to 10am!

  • "The accomodation was fantastic the owner Howard was great, all as listed on Sykes was perfect , however trying to contact Sykes on another matter relating to another cottage we booked , was dire to say to say at least?"

they are useless in my opinion ? so much so that the issue as still not been sorted., but to move on if anyone is thinking of booking Butlers Yard you will not be disappointed . The pay and display car park is a matter of 6 meters away . you can pay for a week for £34 which works out at £4.80 a day , the parking ticket allows you to park on any South Lakes council car park as well ?

  • "There was no hot water the whole of the our stay."

the owner came out and did something to the boiler .. soon after he went so did the hot water. we had to boil kettle for washing and pots etc - definatley not ideal at all. could not wait to get home for a proper shower / bath ... other than that the location was great.

I am terribly for the upset caused during your stay. As you were aware at the time, my plumber was unable to attend until Monday morning and can assure you that the problem has now been resolved. I appreciate your comments and taken what you have said onboard. I have arranged for a member of the Sykes team to contact you to offer you a gesture of goodwill for this. I hope to see you in the future! Property Owner

  • "After several stays here, when we had suggested a blind for the skylight in one of the bedrooms, it was nice to find a blackout blind fitted."

This helped keep my grandson asleep, instead of up at 4.30! In a July review someone mentioned the boiler not working. We arrived when the plumber was fitting new parts. We went away for a few hours and came back to hot water! A sanitiser was fitted by the front door, inside, and one in the kitchen. The owner had written a greeting in the guest comments book, which was nice. The welcome pack had become a Tesco voucher/card, as Tesco express is in the town, which was good. We were still able to eat locally and go to see other places, mainly by booking online first.

  • "Nice accommodation in central place."

Having stayed a few times now, a change of wifi companies was a bad decision as there is poor wifi so bad youtube takes ages to load and Netflix films keep stopping to load more film. Not a good experience this time. We were missing our free bottle of wine this time! Also no one ever seems to read the comments book, eg about the wifi, to add a blind to the top window to stop early morning light in, etc Unsure if the place had been really checked before we arrived as there was rubbish and cards under the settee, water leaked from the side of the ground floor shower and the heating control needed it's battery replaced. Other than that the beds were made and fresh towels were there. I wish we didn't have to strip all the beds etc before we leave at 10am.

  • "We stayed here twice before."

Each time the evenings and mornings were dark, this time in the summer it was light till after 9 and light from about 5. This was a problem in the small bedroom as there still is no cover or roller blind on the skylight. This made it light when putting our grandson to bed and woke him up too early in the morning. It rained a lot on our week and the rain bounced on the skylight. We swapped rooms and he had to share a double bed. Not very good as an adult then had to go in that room on a few nights, dark when they went to bed, but light too early! We used a cot for the youngest who is now 3, to prevent them getting out of bed and falling downstairs. The cottage is centrally located and we found a space in the car park each time (you have to pay to park), now that the car park is fully open, although it is busier on market days. It is handy to have 2 bathrooms. The kitchen has most items you need like a full cooker, microwave, kettle, coffee maker and toaster, although there was no masher, so I used a fork and no ice cube trays in the small ice box in the fridge, but we brought our own. The living room is good with 2 settees and a large tv set, which you can watch freeview or Netflix etc.No sky. The broadband is good from Nowtv.

  • "We booked as a party of four ( One adult in a wheelchair) this property has a downstairs bedroom and bathroom."

However that adult was unable to go last minute which turned out to be fortunate. The property is situated in a small courtyard and although we parked in the public carpark others didn't. We arrived quite late at night and couldn't wheel our suitcase in as a car was parked so close to the door we had to carry it. If we had had the wheelchair we would have had to carry it and the person in it!!!!! We were there Monday to Friday and 90 per cent of the time various cars were parked very close to the door. This is not the fault of the owners it is just people with cars who are only thinking of them selves. Lovely property and would love to go back but not with a heavy suitcase or a wheelchair or indeed people with a pushchair wouldn't have been able to get in through the door.
