  • "Beautiful cottage, very comfortable, extremely clean and well maintained."

Gorgeous location but we weren’t aware just how remote it was and the drive up an unmade bumpy road to get to it. Would have been useful to have been left 2 keys as we were 2 couples meeting up for a wedding.. Also maybe milk in the fridge as a starter and some info re nearest shop for supplies.

Only 1 TV and that monstrosity of a dining table and display cupboard totally out of keeping with the modern decor. They're the downs. The ups are the location. Accessibility of things to see and do and the best showers on the planet.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hudson, It is extremely comfortable with stunning views and well maintained. The only 2 things that are a draw back is there is no freezer despite having plenty of room for one and the WiFi is very intermitten but it was before as I remember but obviously didn't put us off visiting again.

The accommodation was sparkling clean and spacious enough for six adults and a springer spaniel. The kitchen was very well equipped and the beds and pillows were comfy. We were blessed with beautiful weather so enjoyed exploring the grounds and spending time in the enclosed back garden in the mornings with a coffee, reading and in the evening with a glass of wine. Would highly recommend!

  • "Most suited to short stays."

We were there for 24 days and the lack of a freezer was a real problem meaning we had to shop every couple of days. As the nearest supermarket was 20 minutes away it was quite inconvenient. Also there is no washing machine in the holiday cottage itself and you have to use the facilities in another building. Again not ideal. Nobody came to clean in the time we were there (24 days). Whilst very nice, the under floor heating meant that food could not be kept in any floor cupboards, as they got very hot. I was also put off of walking around the grounds as there were a number of completely dead trees which looked about to drop very big branches. There was a lot of dead branches everywhere that had fallen from the trees, some of which were quite big. I certainly would not like to have been hit by one. There was also some work going on involving the use of heavy plant early in the morning. I appreciate the need for improvements and repairs but please not at 8 o.clock in the morning. Having just left a much cheaper holiday cottage that had a super comfortable king sized bed, I was very disappointed with the beds at the Hudson which were quite uncomfortable. We had wanted to sleep in the rear bedroom on the first floor but had to move during the night to the front bedroom because of the extreme noise from the heating boiler of the next door property. I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here for more than a few nights.

We are sorry you found your stay disappointing, for 2 persons and 1 dog for your 22 night stay. Hudson is a 3 Bed cottage, with a ground floor on-suite bedroom. After Sykes booking commission we receive £60 per night, which is not unreasonable. We provide contact numbers and respond to all requests. The Housekeeper had made up all three beds, and provided you with a change of bedding, and towels mid stay, which you said you were happy to change your selves. The information provided at booking makes it clear there is not a freezer, or washing machine. Washing, drying and ironing facilities are provided near by. Major supermarkets are available in Garstang, and Lancaster. The local spar shop is very well stocked, and Marks and Spenser/Greggs have good outlets on the nearby service station. Beds, soft, medium, hard are personal preferences and it is difficult to please everybody. There are 100 acres of open ground to walk in including along the banks of the river. The full time grounds person keeps the grounds in good order, and will check your concerns regarding the trees. We fully understand the secluded country location, 10 miles from Lancaster City Center does not suit everybody. Wyreside Cottages Property Owner

Lovely to have ample sized garden and sitting area, which is fully enclosed and excellent for our dog. Great walks around the estate and plenty of places to visit nearby to suit every taste. We can heartily recommend this beautiful cottage. please feel free to publish the above, for your information, on one only night we had a very slight roof leak onto the bed in the largest upstairs bedroom, it had rained a lot and the wind may have been in the wrong direction. Also the downstairs en suite the washbasin right hand tap has an occasional leak.

Thank you for your positive feedback. We have been back to the roof to solve the wind, and rain issues. Tap nut has been tightened. Many Thanks, Wyreside Cottages. Property Owner

The drive up the private road to the cottage made us feel very special, and we were taken aback by the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and Wyreside Hall. Hudson cottage was well designed and laid out, and finished to a high standard. It also had a lovely secure garden that was nice although a little lacking in seating. Location wise was excellent, with Morecambe, Fleetwood, the Lakes & Trough of Bowland all within a 1/2-1 hr drive. There is a local pub about 1 1/2 miles away - The Fleece, which served excellent quality food and a nice choice of beers. Overall - a lovely holiday and is one cottage that we’d love to stay at again.

The only thing I would suggest is maybe replace kitchen knives as they werent sharp, handwash should be provided in bathrooms, a long mirror wouldve been nice in the place and finally everything looked very clean apart from the floor, when its stood on bare feet- there seems to be a lot of dirt and animal fur. Also there is no wifi in upstairs rooms and it is hard to get any reception there.

  • "Hudson provides great spacious accommodation in a unique setting as part of the Wyreside Hall estate."

However, any visitors should realise that the accommodation is minimum of 20 minutes drive from any nearby shops (great if you are looking for a complete getaway, but not so great if you need any additional groceries etc whilst you are way). Also whilst the accommodation provides WiFi it is only available in the downstairs of the property and does not work throughout. This is a major downside if you have teenage children in your party and for accommodation of this standard, quality and price we would have expected WiFi throughout.

The location is beautiful and the surrounding area stunning. The grounds of the accommodation are also great to explore. From a purely practical point-of-view, (and echoing a number of previous visitors) the most obvious improvements would be a larger (or additional) fridge/freezer, and the kitchen could do with some more basic utensils, cutlery and crockery. Aside from these pretty minor points, it was a wonderful place to stay, and somewhere we would definitely look to book again.

I agree with previous comments re the lack of some basic kitchen utensils, just one very small Pyrex dish for example nowhere near big enough when catering for six, no kitchen scissors etc. only minor niggles but initially challenging. We all had a very enjoyable stay, really loved the garden and all the outdoor space, great for our puppy and young Grandson. Lovely grounds and a warm comfortable spacious house.Bathrooms were great. It was too far really to walk to the local pub as it was dark on the way back but it is really nice. Adequate kitchen equipment, would have enhanced this if a bigger fridge & freezer had been there. Could do with replacing some of the cutlery and chopping knives as they are getting past their best. We only managed to get the TV working on the last day of the holiday and did also have difficulty working out how to use the cooker. We couldn't find instructions for either of these but worked it out in the end. We would definitely go back as the property if great, my suggestions are to improve the experience and would not stop us from returning.

The grounds of the hall were impresive and tranquil but unfortunately there was a few little things that can be easily rectified that would have made the stay more enjoyable. 1. There was a lack of kitchen utensils and crockery 2. only one bin in the whole place that was in the kitchen downnstairs. Non in bathrooms 3. Both Toilets seat downstairs were loose 4. Matching bedding in downstairs bedroom would have finished the room off nicely 5. Ironing board and iron would have been more convenient then having to find the container in the grounds to use it 6. More information on recycling facilities 7. A clock in kitchen and lounge 8. Pictures on wall in living room to make it feel more homely Just a few pointers. I have been staying in cottages over the last 10 years and I feel that would just make it that little bit nicer.

We loved exploring and went for walks every day with our dog who was in his element! Fabulous to have a decent dog secure garden. The grounds are stunning and the place will be truly amazing when the whole mansion is completed. The house was lovely and warm. The downside is that this is a seriously under equipped luxury cottage: -the kitchen was gorgeous but there was so little crockery that the dishwasher was an irrelevance as we had to wash up all the time.We had to ask for oven gloves and chopping boards. The frying pan was perfect for one person - but no good for the four of us! There were no books to read and we had no visitor information at all - where to put the bins, where the nearest shop was, walks from the door and so on. We had to find this out for ourselves. The mattress we slept on wasn't great either. We stayed for 3 days and we were fine but if we had been there for a week, the lack of oven dishes and mugs would probably have become annoying. Would definitely return to this cottage but will be enquiring as to the contents of the kitchen beforehand just in case we have to bring the kitchen sink!

We absolutely loved the magnificent setting and the high quality interior. This is a beautiful conversion of an old building, retaining loads of character but with modern amenities. The cottage is really spacious, especially the kitchen/diner and upstairs living room. The kitchen is gorgeous! We loved the kitchen doors opening onto the enclosed garden and this was perfect for our dog. We visited for four days for our daughter’s graduation and this was a great location for Lancaster University. We totally recommend this cottage. Here is some additional feedback for the owners - not for publishing. We can see this is a recent conversion and would like to recommend a few minor things to be added where the lack was a bit inconvenient and/or not completely in keeping with a luxury rental: A bath mat in all bathrooms. Some hand towels. Hand soap dispensers. Bedside lamps. A mirror in the bedrooms (especially for use when hair drying). An iron and ironing board. More than one key fob where guests have multiple cars. Better quality bedding and especially bedding that matches the decor (pale blue patterned duvet cover in downstairs room with purple headboard!). We hope this feedback is helpful - thank you for a wonderful stay.
