  • "Gorgeous setting."

Plenty space. Very cosy. Quiet and peaceful. Loved walking round the grounds even though the weather was wet most of the time we were there. Our border collie pup ( 8 months old) loved it too!

  • "We had an amazing stay at Skipper cottage."

Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Being able to walk out of the door and into the amazing grounds was fantastic for us and our four legged friend really enjoyed himself. Being late in the year there were very few people around and we could imagine that it all belonged to us. There are several villages and towns nearby for shopping and wandering around but it was the countryside outside of our door that made it for us. You can go on a different ramble every day and still not see everything which is why we’ve already booked to go back. The only niggle was the lack of an icebox/freezer but we were aware of this and shopped accordingly. Maybe if the veg baskets were taken out a small freezer would fit in nicely but please don’t let that put you off, I’m sure you’d love it!

The internal locks on the patio doors need replacing and slight touch ups of paint. However overall a perfect holiday cottage for 2.

The location was great, especially for our black lab. Notification of building works, prior to booking, but especially prior to our arrival, would have been appreciated.

We are very glad you enjoyed your stay. Skipper is located in a group of 5 cottages, next to the main hall. There are 100acres of grounds fronting onto the River for the guest to enjoy. There is some ongoing refurbishment in the main hall building. As the Hall is completely separate from the cottages, it should not pose any problem to the guests enjoyment. Workmen start work about 8 going up and down the road at the back on gators ! Gorgeous area tho other than this , And when we did have a problem with the underfloor heating they were very quick on coming out and sorting it, T

Thank you for your recent feedback though we were surprised to read your comments. We leave contact telephone numbers in the property so guests can contact us if they need anything at all. I am glad to hear that we resolved the issue with the underfloor heating quickly for you, it was a shame the other things noted were not brought to our attention so we could have helped further. We have spoken with the cleaning team who do not recall anything being left in the fridge. The furniture is accurately represented by the photographs of the property online and taste and comfort is subjective. The gentleman on the gator is a groundsman, I am glad that you enjoyed the area. • "I hate to post a adverse review but there a number of issues which need to be addressed in connection with this property."

Firstly, guests should be made aware that the main house is a wedding venue and also that extensive building works have been abandoned leaving the back of the site full of decaying equipment, building excavations and barriers. This does not enhance the experience. We had no specific instruction on how to find 'Skipper' and when we arrived, guests using other accommodation had taken all the car-parking spaces as none were marked for individual properties. In the house, though beautifully set out ,in the kitchen area we had no small plates, no colander to wash vegetables, no bin liners for the kitchen bin and no dishwasher tablets. Guests need to be made aware if the latter are not being provided by the host. Instructions for the induction cooker would have been helpful. There was no hairdryer, no towel rail in the bathroom and the bathroom mirror is so low that you could only see yourself in it by sitting on the toilet. I am so sorry to be negative, but we visited this property following a stay in a Eco Pod on the Outer Hebrides which was far better equipped for self-catering. By comparison, Skipper felt more like a show home.

Thank you for your response. It is human nature that sometimes you do get the negative responses, and we take on board your comments. Other guests comments concentrate on the wonderful surroundings, the river views, and 100acres of grounds to enjoy. We always want our guests to have an enjoyable stay, and we are always on hand to deal we any issues, if they are made aware to us. We are sorry if other guests had taken up all the immediate parking. There are plenty of other places to park within 20metres of the cottage. Property Owner

  • "Over all we thought Skipper cottage was beautifully presented and extremely clean."

The grounds and the walk down to the river were an absolute highlight for the dog and the enclosed nature of the cottage was ideal. We were disappointed that there was no hairdryer and although the venue was comfortable, due to the cottage literally being in the middle of no where a welcome pack with a few essentials would have been a nice touch. Also there are a lot of building works at the moment so towards the rear of the property is not quite as picturesque. I think this is worth stating on the details. As well as some clearer details of directions to the cottage and the current parking access.

The cottage was lovely but it was on a huge estate with four other cottages and an old Hall. There was no one else on the site which made it very isolated and remote. There was no one else expected on the site whilst we were there. Even the owners were away! The remoteness of the cottage was not emphasised in the details and we would not booked it had we known we were the two on the estate. Unfortunately we then had to pay for a hotel for three nights.
