  • "The Skipper Cottage was so good."

We had an excellent time. The facilities were great, the walks were amazing. We have recommended it to anyone that wants to listen. The only drawback was having to leave. Pepper, our dog, discovered her childhood all over again and had to be dragged back to the car to come home. Our stay was so relaxing.

  • "The Skipper was perfect, exactly what we expected, spotlessly clean, modern, comfortable and had everything we needed from a holiday home."

The location was great, especially for our black lab. Notification of building works, prior to booking, but especially prior to our arrival, would have been appreciated.

We are very glad you enjoyed your stay. Skipper is located in a group of 5 cottages, next to the main hall. There are 100acres of grounds fronting onto the River for the guest to enjoy. There is some ongoing refurbishment in the main hall building. As the Hall is completely separate from the cottages, it should not pose any problem to the guests enjoyment. Our Telephone numbers are on hand, and we respond to any requests immediately. Property Owner

This is not something I would expect a guest to be asked to to do, Covid pandemic episode or not.

We do everything we can to ensure our guests have an enjoyable stay. We are always on hand. As a venue we do not expect guests to strip the beds on leaving. Property Owner

! It’s a beautiful cottage but the furniture is all very cheap like Argos furniture and not in keeping with the property , the settees were really bad !! There’s no tea plates in the property and very limited crockery , no chopping board ! No knives suitable for buttering bread as they are all pointed !! The view out of the patio doors is not great as you have old half destroyed porta cabins !! I understand they are doing work up there but they could be moved out of view !! Workmen start work about 8 going up and down the road at the back on gators ! Gorgeous area tho other than this , And when we did have a problem with the underfloor heating they were very quick on coming out and sorting it, T

Thank you for your recent feedback though we were surprised to read your comments. We leave contact telephone numbers in the property so guests can contact us if they need anything at all. I am glad to hear that we resolved the issue with the underfloor heating quickly for you, it was a shame the other things noted were not brought to our attention so we could have helped further. We have spoken with the cleaning team who do not recall anything being left in the fridge. The furniture is accurately represented by the photographs of the property online and taste and comfort is subjective. The gentleman on the gator is a groundsman, I am glad that you enjoyed the area. • "I hate to post a adverse review but there a number of issues which need to be addressed in connection with this property."

Firstly, guests should be made aware that the main house is a wedding venue and also that extensive building works have been abandoned leaving the back of the site full of decaying equipment, building excavations and barriers. This does not enhance the experience. We had no specific instruction on how to find 'Skipper' and when we arrived, guests using other accommodation had taken all the car-parking spaces as none were marked for individual properties. In the house, though beautifully set out ,in the kitchen area we had no small plates, no colander to wash vegetables, no bin liners for the kitchen bin and no dishwasher tablets. Guests need to be made aware if the latter are not being provided by the host. Instructions for the induction cooker would have been helpful. There was no hairdryer, no towel rail in the bathroom and the bathroom mirror is so low that you could only see yourself in it by sitting on the toilet. I am so sorry to be negative, but we visited this property following a stay in a Eco Pod on the Outer Hebrides which was far better equipped for self-catering. By comparison, Skipper felt more like a show home.

Thank you for your response. It is human nature that sometimes you do get the negative responses, and we take on board your comments. Other guests comments concentrate on the wonderful surroundings, the river views, and 100acres of grounds to enjoy. We always want our guests to have an enjoyable stay, and we are always on hand to deal we any issues, if they are made aware to us. We are sorry if other guests had taken up all the immediate parking. There are plenty of other places to park within 20metres of the cottage. Property Owner

  • "Over all we thought Skipper cottage was beautifully presented and extremely clean."

The grounds and the walk down to the river were an absolute highlight for the dog and the enclosed nature of the cottage was ideal. We were disappointed that there was no hairdryer and although the venue was comfortable, due to the cottage literally being in the middle of no where a welcome pack with a few essentials would have been a nice touch. Also there are a lot of building works at the moment so towards the rear of the property is not quite as picturesque. I think this is worth stating on the details. As well as some clearer details of directions to the cottage and the current parking access.

It was very handy to step out of the door straight into the woods that surround the hall. Skipper was immaculate and finished to a very high standard, the only criticism would be the bed having casters on the hard floor, it tended to move around unexpectedly! Thanks for a lovely holiday Andrew

  • "We booked for four nights and only stayed for one night."

The cottage was lovely but it was on a huge estate with four other cottages and an old Hall. There was no one else on the site which made it very isolated and remote. There was no one else expected on the site whilst we were there. Even the owners were away! The remoteness of the cottage was not emphasised in the details and we would not booked it had we known we were the two on the estate. Unfortunately we then had to pay for a hotel for three nights. An expense we had not expected but felt necessary if we were to enjoy our holiday.

Finished to a very high standard with top quality kitchen and bathroom, curtains, flooring and underground heating etc. Sad that this was not seen through as far as the furniture though. Cottage fitted out to high standard, however we did miss not having curtains on the patio doors. The cottage was immaculate and decor good. We stayed for a week and brought our food with us, however there was no freezer section in the fridge. Little things like no sanitary bin in bathroom and perhaps a lamp in lounge may also improve. It was quiet and exactly what we were looking for. Found little things missing that we usually find in holiday rentals e.i. No visitor information regarding local attractions, places to eat etc. Perhaps a visit to tourist information to get some leaflets and maps of local area would be helpful. Despite this we had a lovely holiday and would like to return in a couple of years when all the grounds work is completed as it will be absolutely stunning.

The grounds of Wyreside Hall in which we were free to roam are attractive but the Hall is in course of renovation and to the rear it is a construction site. Skipper was reasonably equipped but the facilities would be improved by the provision of a bedside light, a hairdryer, a towel rail or hooks in the bathroom and larger breakfast bowls. We had a very restful week and the cottage is ideally situated to explore the Forest of Bowland, the North Lancs coast and the Lake District

Lancaster retains many excellent examples of handsome Georgian architecture, and with its captivating medieval castle, Ashton Memorial, and four museums, it’s an interesting place for those in search of history and tales of the past. Among the many amenities, there are two venues for live performances, the Lancaster Grand Theatre and the Dukes, as well as open-air concerts held frequently in the pretty Williamson Park during the summer season. The Forest of Bowland and The Arnside & Silverdale Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty provide visitors with lots of opportunities to take in the flora and fauna of the area, with wonderful walking and cycling ways to enjoy.
