  • "My son and I stayed at the Granary Loft for a week over Christmas and had a delightful time."

It was home away from home. The weather wasn’t great for hill walks so we opted for cozy days at the Loft cooking, eating and watching TV. The Loft was very clean, good quality mattresses and bedding, excellent kitchen facilities and we loved the shower / room with underfloor heating. The location is fantastic with Birkrigg Common on the doorstep and walks down to the shore via Sea Wood or Baycliff. If you cross Birkrigg and walk down to Bardsea village you’ll find the Ship Inn where you can order food. For shops, Barrow and Ulverston are short drives away. I can’t wait to come back again in the spring / summer when the days are warmer and longer. I would definitely recommend the Granary Loft others. Thank you so much for an amazing stay.

  • "Property owner very friendly and helpful."

Location is stunning Facilities accurate as per listing Cottage was clean and tidy on arrival Children loved seeing the sheep and alpacas every morning. Only disappointment was the people staying in the lodge below complaining about us walking around the holiday loft at 8pm whilst trying to get three children to bed (not partying at 11pm). Which if they had read the previous reviews they would have expected to hear the footsteps from above. This spoilt the whole trip as with three kids we were then walking on tiptoes for the rest of the week (despite being woken up every morning by the same people below @ 5-6 am). I actually felt sorry for the lovely property owner having to ask us to stop moving around the loft. If it was not for the idiotic people below we would have given a 5 start rating for this lodge.

  • "Greeted by the male owner, he was pleasant, i had to ask for his name."

His wife did not come near us, just waved from their house, she did,nt interact with us in the slightest and they both dissapeared after 2 days of us being there. We were left to get on with things and we thought their animals were very hungry including a 3 wk old lamb with no mother. I texted the owner to see if i could feed the animals as it turned out to be stressful worrying about them. We left on the friday, nobody around only their 2 dogs barking madly at us from a cage. if you,re an animal lover, it tugs at your heartstrings. The people in the barn underneath woke us up every morning around 4ish, so you can hear all the noise from below. lots of young lads one evening shouting and roaring with laughter from 5pm til 9-15 pm, i had to text the owner to ask how long did we have to listen to it after being out for 8 hrs, we were tired, one of them was her son, mates brought back while owners away i suppose. no respect for people paying lots of money for a holiday. more stress. If you want peace and privacy, there wasnt any for us, also take essentials as they leave you no milk, no kitchen roll, not a t bag in sight, good job we brought our own, first place we have been without milk or welcome pack. Also a hungry cat always looking for food. Just feel its sad they cant interact with guests. 1st night we had no wifi, i had to tell the male owner, he sorted it next day. feel i need to complain as for what we went through, it was,nt a relaxing holiday. the barn is right facing the owner,s house, if we would have known, we would not have booked it. Sykes need to sympathise and put more info on this property. We will complain to them.

You contacted me prior to arrival to ask what you need to bring and seemed content with the information Check in time is clearly stated as 3pm you arrived early The property is self catering not B&B We live near the property so are entitled to use our garden, it was explained to you that they were playing cards having not seen each other for a while At no point did you ask the lads to keep it down , had you done so they would have Despite it being explained to you by myself and our animal sitter that the animals are all well and fed but are opportunists looking for treats you state they were distressed. As trustee of an animal welfare charity and the fact that the cat is one we rescued I find your comments inaccurate. We didn’t “disappear” we went on a well deserved holiday after my cancer treatment. We are not obligated to be on site 24/7 I’m at a loss as to why you need to be informed of this Property Owner

Gorgeous walks on the doorstep and a couple of pubs with good food are well within striking distance walking or driving. The accommodation itself is fabulous with a stunning outlook, a serene peaceful setting, comfortable beds in good sized bedrooms and the kitchen well equipped. We were made to feel very welcome. The only reason we didn’t give a 5 for comfort is that it was more than comfortable enough for the two of us and would be for 3 but seating and eating arrangements in the living area may be pushed for 4. Having said that we are trying to persuade a couple to join us next time! Whether or no we will ourselves , hopefully, return.

  • "This was absolutely gorgeous location with an amazing property."

It was so fresh and clean when we arrived and really was set up to meet all our needs. The kitchen really did have everything you could need to self-cater. We went to both Booths and Aldi in Ulverston, so it's not even out of the way to get what you need. We met the owners quite a few times (who are really nice), as this is a working farm set on Birkkrigg Common, which is great for walks and even has a small Stone Circle. Our girls loved seeing all the sheep and Alpacas. And on top of all of this you can't beat the view of Morecambe Bay, literally from wherever you stand you get vistas of it. It's within walking distance or 2 minute drive for walks on massive tidal beaches. All in all we had an amazing time and the only slight draw back, and I know this personal preference, would be a softer bed, and that's just me.

My only suggestions would be: - providing a tea towel in the kitchen - even if you use a dishwasher most of the time, it's handy to have a tea towel for the odd cup. glass etc - The TVs kept switching themselves on when on standby so there could be a connection issue/fault. It would be good to look into this.

It is extremely well equipped, guaranteeing a very comfortable stay. It’s a short drive along the Coast Road to Ulverston, so the beauty of The Lakes is within easy reach, but don’t forget Ulverston itself, with a traditional Market twice a week, and many lovely little shops and cafes to visit along its cobbled streets and alleyways. BUT.....the location listed in Booking.com is incorrect. The Granary Loft IS NOT in or near Soutergate, Kirkby in Furness. It is on the outskirts of Ulverston, several miles away. The postcode given IS correct, so if you tap that into your Sat Nav it will take you right to the gates of Low Sunbrick Farm, where the Granary Loft is nestled. You won’t be disappointed.

About the location

BARDSEA

Ulverston 2 miles.

Set on a hill looking across to Morecambe Bay is the small village of Bardsea. This remote area grew from a small fishing village and farming area into a major transportation link for coal, iron ore and corn. No longer a vital port, Bardsea still retains its fishing heritage, and features a pub serving fine ales and good food. The village is close to spectacular Furness Abbey, while the ancient market town of Ulverston is just 2 miles away, and still has a street market every Thursday and Saturday, plus many festivals throughout the year, including an amazing lantern procession in September and a superb Dickensian weekend in early December. With all the attractions of the Lake District National Park, beaches and good birdwatching of the Furness coast close by, this peaceful and quiet area has plenty to offer.
