  • "We enjoyed our stay very much and the space was great for the four of us."

Everything worked as we would expect and the owner was on hand if we needed anything or had any questions. Great location for tje day trips we had and we also had a great work for the back door around Tarn Hows and Iron Keld.

The Barn has been well designed and the level of craftsmanship in the barn is very high. Philip was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our 2 week stay.

The property

Resting near the village of Hawkshead, Cumbria, lies this charming, two-bedroom holiday home, The Hayloft.

Boasting off-road parking, and a tastefully-presented, open-plan living space, this delightful dwelling welcomes a group of four to escape for a relaxing, self-catered break within the Lake District National Park.

Once unpacked, make yourself comfortable in your new home-from-home, by getting straight to work in the well-equipped kitchen, complete with all the appliances you’ll need to whip up a tasty dinner for the whole group to enjoy at the spacious dining table.

In the evening, kick back in the sitting room, where you and your loved ones can stick a film on the TV whilst you catch up on the day’s events. When sleep calls, two sumptuous super-king-sizes await to whisk you off to a night of well-earned slumber.

After savouring your coffee outside whilst soaking in your tranquil surroundings, head out to explore what your local area has to offer.

Head into Hawkshead, where you can stock up on essentials at the Co-Op before you settle down for a hearty pub lunch at the Queen’s Head.

Whilst in the village, be sure to stop off by the Chocolate Factory, a chocolate shop with a café selling sweet delicacies made daily on-site.

Venturing further afield, a brief car trip to Ambleside will bring you to the must-see attractions of the Ambleside Roman Fort, the beautiful Stagshaw Gardens, as well as the magnificent Stock Ghyll Force waterfall.

No trip to the Lake District would be complete without stopping by the landmarks of the Hardknott Roman Fort & Thermae, The Bridge House, or the Grizedale national forest, whilst those seeking adventure can traverse the mountain ranges of Skiddaw and Helvellyn if they’re up for the challenge.

Whatever you choose to do during your next stay in the Lakes, do it from the base of The Hayloft.

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
