  • "Swallowdale is a very well equipped holiday home."

We found it very clean and appreciated the welcome goodies. Everything we could ask for was provided. The information about the property was comprehensive. The Wilson pub and attached deli are only a few steps away which are a great benefit.

Thank you for your feedback - I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday! Property Owner

  • "Just a couple of points that had been missed…."

No hand towel in the downstairs wc, lack of toilet roll in the en-suite (yes we had brought some), no bin liner in the master bedroom.

I am so sorry that these points were overlooked before you arrived - that is not typical. If it happens again please contact me straight away so we can remedy it - we want our guests to have a wonderful and trouble free holiday! Thank you for pointing it out. Property Owner

The property has everything you might need and is really comfortable, a true home from home. Plus the added bonus of a great pub only a couple of minutes walk away. All in all a great stay and we would love to come back.

Very convenient close to the pub, which did good food and beer. It was great to be able to walk straight up onto some of the southern Wainwrights from the back door.

  • "A lovely, homely and comfortable cottage in a delightful, quiet and peaceful location."

The facilities and equipment in the cottage were over and above what we normally experience. We were a family of 6 with grown up children and there was plenty of room for all of us. Comfy beds, good quality appliances and technology. Very clean with a lovely garden/patio area. We had scorching weather and are keen walkers so were out every day, but had it not been suitable for walking, we would have been well entertained inside with the games/books/videos/media options. Would definitely recommend this property.

... very dog friendly pub with georgous fire. Local gallery and fantastic cafe! Highly recommend visit!! Great walks from the house. The house is well laid out, they provide most things you need in the property. It's a bit dated with the dark wood but it's clean and well presented. The house was cosy warm at all times and showers excellent to warm up after cold and very wet walks!!!

  • "An excellent stay at Swallowdale."

The owners had thought of everything and the house was in a great location, being close to a shop, pub and walks. The only slight negative and it is slight, is that the grass needed cutting and the sofas were showing a little sign of wear and tear but neither of these things took away from a great stay. Thank you.

House is also a really good size, clean and has a private garden with good quality garden furniture. There was some noise from the main road (bikes battering past at 100mph every now and then) but apart from that I can't fault the place. Torver is small and pleasant, 1 of the pubs was shut due to Covid and the other just had outdoor seating but probably that will change back to normal soon.

  • "We have just returned from a week staying in Swallowdale and want to really recommend it."

The cottage is spacious, very clean, extremely well equipped and everything we needed was there. Our dog loved the garden which was secure for him and for our piece of mind. Washing machine and tumble dryer, also an outside washing line, all very clean which sometimes doesn't happen in holiday rentals. Equipment in the kitchen cupboards again clean and with sparkling classes. Dishwasher with some tablets left to use the machine, very thoughtful. We have visited many self catering cottages over the years and Swallowdale is one of the best. A walk to the top of the lane where the cottage is situated and there is a field with sheep and during our week there lots of lambs playing and making us laugh, in fact so were the sheep. Torver is a lovely small village, with two pubs which do food as well as drinks. From Torver it is easy to drive from there to the surrounding towns. We visited many places including Bowness, Ulverston, Ambleside and more. Had a ride on an open deck bus on our way to Grasmere, a train ride at Ravensglass and other trips. The owner of the cottage is very helpful and friendly.

Several days we didn’t use the car at all. We really appreciated the wood burner, given that we had fresh covers of snow on two days! • "Great location, just down the road to Coniston, 50yards to the Wilsons arms who do really nice food in a dog friendly atmosphere."

The cottage itself was very clean and had everything that we needed. We did feel that the owner went a little 'over the top' with instructions, lists and photos of the contents in each of the cupboards, and a full 'stock' list! a little un-necessary perhaps. We were requested to clean up and strip the bed before we left, something that we've never been asked before; especially since we couldn't get into the cottage until 5pm yet had to leave by 11am leaving 6hrs for 4 cleaners to do what little cleaning was necessary. These minor niggles did not spoil our stay in what was a very nice cottage in a beautiful location and I would highly recommend Swallowdale to anyone wanting to appreciate this beautiful part of Cumbria.
