The cottage was comfortable and cosy, and although the pillow cases and protectors were clean some of the pillows were stained and could have done with being replaced. The location was perfect for what we wanted to do, a short walk to the bus stops and a pleasant walk up to Windermere or down to Bowness and the lake.

..heating in the bedrooms where constantly turning off. And the bathroom shower door we had a problem open and closing,I would look in to those problem Thank you.

This is the first and only complaint we have had about this. It has not been a problem before. Our cleaners checked it and found it all satisfactory. Possibly the client was using and extraordinary amount of water and emptying the tank. Also the rooms were heated to temperatures as high as 36 and even 40 degrees so I think the heating system was finding it hard to cope. The shower door had been knocked off its runners which were distorted. It has now been repaired. We did phone, text and e mail the guest directly at the time to ask him to discuss the problems so we could sort it out at the time but he did not respond to us. Property Owner

We had the private jetty and small beach to ourselves in August heat wave (10 minutes walk down forest path). Accommodation was basic but spotless and had everything we needed, fantastic view of Windermere lake and surrounding countryside from the lounge window and small patio in front. Would recommend to friends and family. Bedrooms were cool in temperature, which was great as the temperature outside was stiffling.

Walking distance to Windermere and very close to a bus stop. There is not much space to sit in front of the cottage, but you can use the lawn. We missed a comfortable chair to sit outside. The interior of the house is simple but everything you need is there.

There was little storage for any supplies of food stuffs, this added to lack of work surface made preparations difficult. I realise being more inside in bad weather exasperated the problem.

  • "We appreciate that this chalet is on a private estate but signage at the entrance would be a great help."

It is so close 50 mtrs to the 4 way roundabout that we missed it first time and had to double back. Post codes for use with SAT NAV would be useful for shopping and other amenities listed in the local information pack, as the site is not within walking distance to most of them. The WIFI router had been changed and the codes were wrong in the information pack.

  • "4 elderly friends spent a weekend in this absolutely idyllic spot!"

The cottage was perfect for us as we could walk straight in from the top car Park, where we offloaded everything which was very helpful. We did have to concentrate on sorting out the adjustments to the heating ( very easy when we cottoned on!) also the hot water system was unusual. However, once we found the main hot water switch, (on the wall outside the bathroom ) we switched it to either basins ( kitchen & bathroom sinks) or if showering, then switch it over to shower! Then everything was perfect! We walked along the woody pathway to the lakeside & jetty early morning each day & were charmed by passing roe deer, rabbits, and various lovely ducks! The views from the seat at the jetty was stunning. What a privilege to be able to enjoy such a lovely part of the world!

  • "The kitchen area was well laid out if small, but poorly equipped in terms of sharp knife or pair of scissors."

I was disappointed to find no cafetière available and had to resort to purchasing one. The one frying pan was very poor with the nonstick surface badly damaged. There was only one other non stick pan - a medium saucepan - and again the surface was in poor condition. The shower and hot water arrangement was not the best - either hot shower or hot water but not both at once! Water flow for the shower was poor - getting rinsed off properly took quite a time, particularly if hair had been washed. All that said top marks for cleanliness - it was spotless! Lovely and warm to come back to on a night as well, we didn’t need to put the fire on once and it was quite a cold week. The site was fabulous - really peaceful with lovely views down to lake Windermere.

  • "This was my third visit to Priory Ghyll - 2016 2018 and 2019 First the positives The location is superb even though it took us 90 minutes to find on our first visit."

The cottage has a bay window overlooking Lake Windermere which is simply beautiful. There’s a private jetty a 5 minutes walk down a lane with a bench you can use to sit in peace and watch the boats and ferries sail by. The cottage is well equipped with everything you’ll need including towels. Negatives There are 2 sofas in the living room which really do need replaced, they were hard and uncomfortable in 2016 and are still in use now (April 2019). Every year I went back I expected they’d been renewed but they haven’t. Heating is poor, we were cold. The main radiator in the living room works but not well, the fire works sporadically. There’s a small portable heater under a side table, it works but there’s a burning smell when on high. The radiators in both bedrooms are new, it’s a puzzle to me why all the heaters weren’t replaced at the same time. There’s only hot water if no one is using the shower, you have to turn a lever above the bathroom door to either hot water or shower but not both. The shower head is situated quite low, if you’re tall then you need to bend down to wash your hair. There are loads of cottages in Priory Cottages to rent so I’ve booked next year with a different one I love the location , I love the view but need to be warm and be able to sit comfortably If you’re on a tight budget then Priory Ghyll would suit as it’s the lowest priced of all the cottages there, if you have a bit more cash then book a different one

Access slightly problematical as my wife is a wheelchair user and not very mobile. Perhaps more info. could have been provided re. the considerable slope on which the property is built and the fact that the path down to the lake shore (which we could not manage) is challenging to the not so young and/or fit. Equipment in property was fine - the dish rack by the sink is rusty and needs to be replaced. Some hooks for outdoor wear etc. would be nice.
