  • "This holiday cottage is an absolute dream."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly return. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked with kitchen utensils, pots and crockery. The living room is very spacious but yet cosy with a fireplace. The property was incredibly clean and well maintained, towels and bedding were provided. The property has a lot of charm and character and sits in a wonderful location, with a stunning view from the front bedroom window. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience, we felt so comfortable and relaxed in the cottage and will certainly return to this little gem.

  • "We have just returned from our short break at School Cottage and found it a wonderful place to stay."

Bedrooms were spacious with lots of storage space, comfortable beds and both a bath and shower in the bathroom. The place was warm and a cosy with everything you would need for your stay there. There were maps provided which we used to go for some lovely walks and got the chance to visit some lovely places which we hadn’t been to before. This cottage was definitely value for money and we would recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a peacefully, relaxing holiday.

  • "School House Cottage was accurately described:very clean with easy access and in a quiet secluded location."

Park immediately outside the property. Those with mobility issues may need to consider the fact that to access and leave the property, would need to negotiate the deep steps. The property was comfortable and heating temperature could be adjusted. Please note that mobile telephone signal was non existent unless stood in the main double bedroom. The TV signal allowed us to access BCC1 and 2. However, there were plenty of dvds and Netflix etc if you had an account. More than enough kitchen utensils and crockery provided and kitchen was modern and very clean. You may wish to take washing up liquid even though a tiny bottle was provided in the welcome pack along with a few dishwasher tablets. The living room dining area was also adequate and comfortable with a 4 seat dining table. Maps of the lakes were provided as well as activity promotional leaflets. Books to read and family board games. The bathroom was modern with a deep bath and powerful shower. The ensuite in the double bedroom was the same without a bath. Take toilet paper if you plan to stay more than a week. Enough storage for clothes etc. The second bedroom had 2 single beds etc with a travelling cot in the cupboard if needed. The bed was comfortable and bedding very warm which was needed as we used the cottage during the first week of October. The rear yard is private for your use and the same applied to the front with a seating area. The view of the fells from the main bedroom window was stunning on a clear day. A car parking disc is provided for areas with limited period of stay but cannot be used in a pay and display carparks of which there are many in the surrounding areas approximately £3 per hour. Overall we would stay again.

  • "Nice cottage in a lovely location."

Was disappointed there was no welcome pack with items like tea, coffee and milk as when we have booked with other companies we have always had one. Also it is the only place we have stayed were there was no soap in the bathrooms! Cleaning was not up to standard as plenty of cobwebs and kitchen units needing a good wipe down.

! It’s so beautiful with the most stunning view from the front bedroom window. All sorts of games and bits and bobs to keep you busy. Plenty of bits in the kitchen with a dishwasher and washing machine. Fab location to almost everything. Will definitely visit again

  • "Everything was perfect think you!"

Very clean and well maintained. We appreciated the modern touches (up to date smart tv and fast Internet) without interfering with the classic feel of the cottage. The location was great and the view from the main bedroom is excellent. Watching the small birds bobbing around the front garden from the large living room windows was nice too. The rooms were all warm and comfy for a winter stay and the kitchen is modern and very well kitted out too. Would very gladly stay again and have already had demands from our 6 year old daughter to come back :-D

  • "It's a really comfortable cottage."

Very well equipped and very warm. The property appears to have been recently refurbished and is in excellent condition. TV reception can be a bit patchy but there are a large supply of DVDs in the property. Beds are very comfortable and warm. View from main bedroom is good when it's not cloudy or raining. Pubs in Windermere are 1.2 miles away. Can recommend the Crafty Baa and also Homeground Coffee shop. Nearest pub is the Sun at the bottom of the lane it's OK but lacking in atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this property.

The views from the windows were great you could see Langdale pike in the distance. Windamere town wasn’t too far away, we walked to it a few times it about 40 minutes to the town and another 15 to Bowness. The local bus stop was near and covered all the local lakes towns. Would definitely recommend staying in this property

Has everything you could possibly need. The cottage is spotless and made you feel very much at home. The bed is so comfortable. The scenery around the cottage is stunning. Holehird Gardens is close by and definitely worth a visit. When taking a holiday in the Lake District you always feel you need to have a car. It would be quite easy to get to Windermere by train and then the bus station is right by the side of the station. A number of buses pass very close to the cottage and it is only a short walk to the accommodation. We used the buses frequently and found them to be punctual with very helpful drivers. You can also use your bus pass.It saves you struggling to find a parking space when you visit towns and villages in the lakes. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
