  • "Lovely little cottage in a quiet area."

Close enough to amenities in Windermere and Bowness but far enough away to relax from the hussle and bustle. Cottage was spotlessly clean with everything you need during your stay. Thoughtful touches with some lovely goodies waiting on you at arrival. Owners were close by but not in any way intrusive. Roger was kind enough to help us down to the lake with our paddleboards which we were grateful for. Having access to the lake was fabulous and we took advantage of this most days to launch our SUPs from the private jetty. If you are looking for a getaway within walking distance of the lake and nearby towns then don't look any further than Twit T'woo!

So pleased you enjoyed your stay, and many thanks for the review. Property Owner

  • "A small but perfectly formed holiday home with private access to the lake shore."

We had a fantastic week away, partly due to great weather, but mostly down to the content, quality and location of this cottage. Comfy beds, underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom, clear communication before arrival, friendly owners who were around for any questions (or a chat), the communal lawns were loved by the children who made friends and played out together all evening... and Windermere is a nice stroll away. There is so much to do locally including Windermere shops/cafes, Orrest Head Hill Walk, Queen Adelaide's Hill, Windermere Adventure Centre for kayak or SUP hire, Brockhole visitor centre for activities, lake swimming, Ambleside, Bowness, Grasmere etc. The wildlife on site is wonderful plus the open skies and view from the front of the cottage but the best thing about this property is the private access to the lakeshore. We would love to go back here.

So pleased your family enjoyed your break. Hopefully next time you will be able to stay a full week. The estate is well into the daffodil season now, and the bluebells are just starting to show along the track and field, followed soon by more colour from the azaleas and rhododendrons. A present was left by the owners, giving a lovely touch. Location nicely positioned for walking into Windermere and beyond. In my opinion felt there were too many ornaments etc. especially during covid times. The only negative had to endure noisy neighbours and two barking dogs, which were heard through paper thin walls.

We tried to provide some Christmas cheer inside. It has proper cavity walls, No 14 & 15 (not rented) were added on later, we regret dogs were in 14 (not normal) Property Owner

The weather wasn’t great but the cottage was bright and warm and cosy. The owners have great taste and everything that comes with the cottage is of a good quality. The cottage comes well equipped and we wanted for nothing, even down the the heated airer which made short work drying our wet clothes, a great gadget to have. Couldn’t fault the cottage and would love to stay again at some point as it is so beautifully situated.

Many thanks for your review, glad you found and made use of the drier, it’s much quieter than a washer/drier! Hope to see you again, best regards! Property Owner

  • "Nice little bungalow in a great location for getting everywhere in the lakes."

Clean and tidy. Had a nice stay with our 3 year old son and he enjoyed running around on the grass outside. The weather was terrible when we stayed but the owner was kind enough to provide some duplo for our son to play with. The owner lived onsite so we were able to get information easily. Only downside was the windows would get very steamy during the night and then drip all over the windowsill in the morning. Having a washer was great considering we stayed for a week but the clothes refused to dry as the air was already very humid from the rain. We would definitely stay again but as I am expecting a 2nd child we won't be able to. There is only enough space for 3 people, even small ones

Thanks for the review, we didn’t install a washer/drier specifically because the the drier cycles go on forever and the noise would intrude on the lounge. We did however provide a portable electric heated airer in the second bedroom (between the wardrobe and the window) which would have dried clothes. We’re sorry if this wasn’t realised and caused difficulties. The electric wall mounted radiator in the bathroom can be adjusted for temperature for drying towels etc too. Also we would have been happy to take wet clothes in our drier had we known. Property Owner

It’s a short walk to Windermere where we found two fabulous restaurants Hooked and Francines. The private little beach and jetty were fab as it was a really hot week and we swam in the Lake. (Water shoes essential). Close to walks to Orrest Head and it’s stunning views as well as the bus stop for the hop on hop off service along the lake to Grasmere one way and Bowness the other. Ideally located within easy walking distance to Windermere & Bowness. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. I'm not sure we would return due to the fact that we found Sykes Cottages awful to deal with. We booked this cottage in October 2019 to visit in June 2020.The dreadful way that Sykes treated customers during lockdown 1 caused us a great deal of stress & anxiety. Their initial policy was no refund of deposits & taking the full balance when it was unclear when lockdown would end. Dates for 2021 were booking up and prices increasing and as a result of this I felt I had no alternative than to pay £33 to amend my booking to 2021 in order to still secure a June booking at T'wit T'woo, I had already paid a booking fee of £49 so it total £82 to make a booking is not reasonable in my opinion. After lots of bad media publicity Sykes did amount this policy and allowed customers to amend booking free of charge but this was too late for me.

The property

This lovely single-storey end- terrace cottage, named in honour of the resident tawny owls nesting on the estate, is set in an elevated position within the private Priory Manor Estate, and is within walking distance of Windermere town.

Its west facing position enjoys unrestricted views across the lake towards the distant fells from Coniston Old Man to the Langdale range, and captures the sun through to sundown.

It is perfectly placed for ease of access to explore this magical part of the National Park.

From the allocated car parking for two cars you walk via a short pathway to the front door and enter into a delightful open plan living area featuring a fully-equipped modern kitchen, dining and lounge area.

From this room you can enjoy the amenities of the private estate and its fabulous views across the lawn, field and ancient woodland to the lake and fells beyond.

The accommodation is completed with a double and a single bedroom together with a family shower room.

Outside this charming cottage there is a terrace with seating where you can relax with a refreshing drink whilst planning your days out.

The estate is surrounded by magnificent trees and enjoys a wonderful variety of flora and fauna, including free grazing wild deer, foxes, badgers and many bird species.

From the cottage, a few minutes’ walk along the private track (edged by wild snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells in season) takes you to the estate’s private beach and jetty from which you can also launch canoes and wind-surfers, or simply take it easy on the bench and take in the magnificent vistas and the peace and tranquillity.

Windermere is less than a mile away to reach its eclectic selection of shops, coffee bars, restaurants and pubs.

The railway station connects to services to Kendal, Manchester airport and the West Coast mainline to London and Glasgow/Edinburgh.

Bowness-on-Windermere is less than two miles away, with a lively evening atmosphere with shops, pubs and restaurants.

The Lee area features a pitch-and-putt course, tennis courts, occasional music festivals and lake side walks.

Bowness offers lake cruises along or across Lake Windermere to explore walking routes from the boat stop off points.

There are boat launching facilities at Ferry Nab, and a ferry to cross towards Hawkshead and take walks along the peaceful far side of the lake.

Alternatively, hop on a bus at the stops near to Cook’s Corner to visit Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick, or Kendal and Lancaster in the other direction.

T’Whit T’Woo is a lovely well-equipped cottage and a superb base for enjoying the seasonal vistas and wildlife on the estate and for exploring the Lake District National Park and National Trust sites at any time of the year.

Spring and Autumn are particularly special on the Estate due to its variety of wild flowers, rhododendrons and the autumn fall colours of the mature oaks, chestnuts and beeches.

Otters have been seen at the jetty, and the antics of grebes in the spring are a delight to observe.
