  • "Great stay."

Enjoyed the wine & grandchildren devoured yummy cake on arrival. Thank you. Large & comfortable with all things needed, provided & thank god for the dishwasher! Steve gave me directions for the local shore, fantastic. Needed a hoover & Steve went & bought a new one! Thank you. Could do with a coat stand & hooks on backs of doors for garments. Location is beautiful, peaceful yet with easy access to local town Ulverston & beyond. Will definitely come back. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Nice big rooms and comfy beds. Property is a bit remote but not far from town and can be walked to. The property is both central to the Lakes and other coastal areas you may want to visit. The hosts were friendly and helpful and were there if you needed them. Only "con" comment I can think of was the noisy plumbing but it didn't detract from enjoying our stay at the property.

  • "Green Hills Farm is a wonderful location, tucked away but within driving distance of Ulverston and so close to everything you want to see and so in the south Lakes."

The hosts are superb and made us so welcome and were very accommodating. All the beds were extremely comfortable and all the linens were spotlessly clean and the lovely white towels were "hotel fluffy" which was a treat! The rooms were spacious and well provided for with decent high quality furniture and plenty of wardrobe space, and the two showers were both good, well served with hot water. The white goods, the dishwasher, washer and tumble dryer, were all in perfect order and much appreciated. Big TV and free Wifi and Netflix all appreciated. Having a separate dining room really was brilliant and there was more than enough good crockery and cutlery for all, as well as good array of cooking utensils. Having a private garden and places to sit at the front and back all meant we had a variety of spaces in which to relax. Overall, we all really loved our stay: it was a great place for relaxation and unwinding. Small but important matters to note: a sign on the A590 main road and again at the turns in the lane would be very useful. There is no signage that can be seen and near neighbours/locals had never heard of the address or the host family - finding Green Hills in the dark would be impossible, it was a challenge in daylight. Also, though there's nothing the hosts can do about the lane, guests should be aware that low-axle cars may struggle due to the several-inches-deep potholes on the approach from the main road to the farm's own (well maintained) lane. Given the cottage can host up to eight guests, a larger fridge or a separate small fridge would have proven very useful. Also, while this is very well publicised as a working farm (a quiet one at that, there is no disturbance at all), guests should come forewarned about the flies. On our last day we killed 42 in the kitchen alone while preparing dinner, having spent a small fortune on fly sprays and fly papers over our stay. Not a problem per se, but some guests may be more squeamish! Finally, grab handles for when using the lovely big bath could help guests use the facility with confidence (it is quite a high sided bath).

  • "Our stay at Green Hills was just what we needed after lockdown."

The view out of every window was amazing, even when it rained. The house is massive and so are the beds. My grandson loved seeing the cows, horses and sheep in the fields outside the window. A lovely welcome surprise from our hosts Sara and Steve of a bottle of wine and a cake was very much appreciated. The beds are so comfortable, there is plenty to do in the house lots of games and Netflix on the tv as we were home early with having a 2 year old. There is also a barbecue for our use, nothing was missed. Although there is a permanent gate on the bottom of the stairs there isn’t one at the top so someone had to stay with my grandson till he was asleep as he thought it was a great adventure being able to get out of bed and run from room to room, so we would take a gate for his room next time. Lots of local shops and pubs, plenty of parking. The house is situated on a working farm, but it didn’t smell like I thought it might, nor was there any flies. We had to drive down a narrow track to and from the house, but every time we came across another vehicle they always gave us priority and I wasn’t sure if that was because we were guest, it did make us feel special though. On the day we were due to leave the traffic was at a standstill and Sara told us to wait it out at the house while she cleaned upstairs which we are grateful for as it didn’t move for an hour and a half. Very accommodating hosts.
