“Lovely cottage in nice surroundings.”
Well equipped. The shower was a tad low in height with a poor shower curtain, this I believe could be rectified.
Well equipped. The shower was a tad low in height with a poor shower curtain, this I believe could be rectified. Nice and comfortable, just got quite chilly in the downstairs area. A good base for seeing Northumbria. Had a good break with friends.
“A very welcoming, comfortable home from home cottage.”
Very well equipped and highly recommended. Great to have Jane nearby in case of any issues (there were none) and she had kindly put up a Christmas tree and decorations too - a lovely touch.
“Cottage was in an ideal situation for walking Hadrian's Wall as bus (AD122) stopped just 2 minutes away from cottage.”
Also regular bus to Hexham (again AD122).
“The Cottage, the location and the landlady.”
We felt a bit chilly in the evening as the heating didn't come on till 7 or 7.30 pm but.... we lit the fire. I was very disappointed to learn that I had to pay an extra £30 to amend my booking. I was taken aback when I found out my dates were for 2019. I would have hoped someone would have queried this date with me. Grateful that I could still go on the dates I thought I'd booked in the first place. Because of the £30, I won't be using you again.
Many thanks for your feedback. Your views are as valued as your initial booking so that we can keep providing the best UK holiday experience. I'm sorry that you feel disapointed with our policy of having a £30.00 admin fee for making amendments to the booking. We did our best to help in this situation to ensure you were able to go on holiday at your preferred dates. Sykes owner relations
“Well equipped cottage and very helpful owner.”
The village is wonderfully quiet and peaceful and very well placed for exploring the area.
“Really nice cottage in a lovely part of the world.”
We enjoyed visiting Hadrian's Wall and associated Roman museums. Hexham had a nice feel to it and the local pub was welcoming. I would highly recommend.
“Very comfortable, clean cottage in a beautiful position within the village and also a convenient location from which to explore the Hadrian's Wall area.”
“Would have been nice to have an hair dryer on the premises.”
Comfortable, quiet village location, home from home. A brilliant location for a holiday to explore the area around. Jane was a perfect host, nothing was too much trouble.
“The cottage was brilliant: well appointed, comfortable, and characterful.”
Couldn't have been better.
“Cottage was very cold, had to have coats on in the cottage to keep warm.”
DVD player not working. No Outside patio just a bench. Cottage did not look clean. Damp on wall in bedrooms.
“The owner of the cottage was extremely friendly and very helpful.”
The cottage itself had everything you could have wanted - a real home from home. The wooden beams added to its appeal, although our son who is 6ft 2ins had to be careful upstairs!! Lovely quiet village in great location. Great for visiting Hadrian’s Wall and all the Roman sites around. Hexham has good supermarkets and is a nice market town. A visit to Edinburgh is also possible from here. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and we would recommend Church Cottage to everyone. Would love to go back.
“Comfortable and well equipped cottage in a great location, our second visit.”
“We stayed the last week in March 2018, the temperatures outside was between 2 - 6 degrees during the night and the cottage remained very warm and comfortable inside.”
We had the option of using the log fire, but we were warm enough not to need it. The Wi-fi maintained great reception, we enjoyed the use of Netflix when we were not playing the Yorkshire edition of Monopoly that was provided. The cottage far exceeded our expectations, with large rooms and was well equipped. Beds were very comfortable & this is a very well presented cottage - well done to the owner Jane :)
“Electric central heating was on fixed timer /temperature so very cold most of the time.”
Only enough logs for one fire then you have to arrange to buy more from owner... Given age and size of house free logs should be provided. The fact we were so cold we had to keeps coats on spoiled our stay. We live in a country property in Scotland with log burners so are used to older homes in the winter.
“Fantastic location and lovely cottage.”
Will be back again for longer next time.

About the location
Newcastle 22 miles.
A bustling little market town, Hexham has several antique shops and is popular with tourists visiting nearby Hadrian’s Wall. Beautiful old Hexham Abbey dates back to the 7th century and has a superb Saxon crypt. Shoppers flock to colourful stalls in The Shambles in the Market Place on Tuesday and close by is the 14th century Moot Hall, now an art gallery. The town boasts plenty of open spaces, particularly the Sele next to the abbey, which is now a lovely public park. Nearby is Tyne Green - a riverside country park - and Hexham Race Course is just to the south of the town.
