  • "Although we had a lovely time and the Village is lovely and well kept our accommodation was a little disappointing and in need of some TLC, the decking area needs attention, inside appeared clean when we walked in but at closer inspection it could have done with a deep clean."

    The fridge had no shelf areas on the door and we had to keep the milk cartons on their side inside the fridge this was not ideal as the cartons were leaking because they were not stood up and we constantly had to mop up the milk and wipe off other foods. The markings on the cooker had worn off so it was difficult to see the settings and the cooker hood was very greasy.

  • "The advertisement makes mention of "minor road noise"."

    The noise was impossible to ignore 24 hours a day. The lodge is located almost alongside the main road and the road did not stop even at night. It was noticed that this road noise was evident no matter where you were in the holiday village so this challenge is not specific to this lodge alone. The lodge feels neglected. There is a serious issue with the wooden lintel above the kitchen sink which is badly in need of repair and looks incredibly unsightly. The balcony on the decking had come away from the left hand post meaning that if you did not look carefully you could have fallen from the decking as this section is ready to simply give way with any slight leaning on it. The kitchen pots and pans I could not fault - a great selection of everything and that was a happy time until I struggled to turn on any except 1 gas hob ring. You could fire all the rings but 3 out of the 4 would not stay lit. Whether or not this means the gas bottle was failing is unsure but there was no understanding of what to do if anything did fail. Overall, I am not saying it was an entirely negative weekend but if I am talking about the break with anyone, more negatives than positives are apparent in my impressions.

  • "1. On arrival we noticed one of the patio chairs was broken, we got in touch with Sykes who got in touch with the owner of the property who said the previous guests broke it and he was in the middle of getting new furniture."

    (They left on the 9th August and we arrived on the 11th August). We couldn’t sit out as a family. We booked to stay for 5 nights but left after 4 nights and at that stage the furniture still hadn’t been replace (How long does it take). 2. It states in the website that there is some minor road noise. The noise is from the M6 which the lodge backs onto. As you can imagine it’s non stop so to don’t get any peace and quiet. 3. There is no WiFi despite the lodge being advertised as having it. When Sykes got in touch with the owner he said he didn’t advertise as having WiFi, I can quite clearly see its advertised in the write up otherwise I wouldn’t have booked it. What it should say is there is no WiFi in the lodge and you have to go to the restaurant on site to use their WiFi at an additional cost. 4. The lodge wasn’t overly clean and there is ripped wallpaper in one of the bedrooms. 5. To top it off when it rained the ceiling over the kitchen started to leak.

The property

This compact detached lodge is situated in a private corner of the South Lakeland Leisure Village, which benefits from excellent on-site facilities including a spa, indoor swimming pool, restaurant and bar.

This bright, contemporary lodge has two bedrooms and a family shower room with a large shower.

There is also an L-shaped leather settee in the living area and outside decking that is perfect for planning the day’s activities or for having a relaxing evening drink whilst taking in the south-facing and far-reaching views to Warton Crag.

This and more makes it perfect for couples and families wishing to relax and enjoy the superb on-site facilities.

The location of this lodge has easy access to the Lake District but also to the coastal area around Arnside, Jenny Brown’s Point and Silverdale.

These villages are set in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and they enjoy breathtaking views to the shore, all of Morecambe Bay from elevated spots and Lakeland Hills.

These views can also be seen from Warton Crag seen opposite from this lodge, approximately two miles away, and also Arnside Knott.

At Silverdale, just five miles away, is the RSPB Leighton Moss bird reserve, home to rare birds, otters and deer and where you can see a variety of wildlife from the reserve’s hives and then explore the grounds of Leighton Hall just short walk away.

In Carnforth, the railway station is a heritage site where you can step back in time to the forties and see where the famous film Brief Encounter was filmed.

A well-deserved break in the tea room is also a must as this is still as it appeared during the 1940s film.

In Carnforth you can also hop on a canal boat during the summer months and enjoy a relaxing cruise starting near Carnforth or from Lancaster.

Alternatively, guests can enjoy the facilities on site such as spa treatments, steam room, gym and the swimming pool but not forgetting the pub and restaurant, meaning you don’t have to use the car during your stay if you don’t wish to.

This all helps to make this South Lakeland lodge a perfect base all year round.
