  • "The location and views are everything with this holiday home."

If you like peace and quiet, and nature then this is for you.Great for hikers and twitchers. If you need restaurants and shops on your doorstep, I'd look elsewhere. Two lodges set on a sheep farm, one faces North and one South. The lodge is adequately furnished with pretty much everything you should need although could do with one or two things modernised to bring it up to todays standards. Mattresses on single beds aren't ideal especially for adults plus the beds creak but as a base it worked fine.

  • "We love staying at North Lodge."

This is not our first visit and wont be our last. The lodge is well equiped with everything you need and is always spotlessly clean when we arrive. The owners who live in the farmhouse next door are lovely and the surroundings are beautiful. It is very peaceful and out in the middle of nowhere, but its not far to get to many of the nearby towns and places of interest. So you really have the best of both worlds.

  • "We had a slight problem when we arrived as the cleaning service hadn't finished and there were some items missing like tea towels, second bedroom linen and toilet rolls."

The owners were very helpful and disappointed that their cleaning service had not delivered. After checking with us a few times, the missing items turned up after 7:30pm. Prodfuse apologies from the owners but it wasn't their fault. Interesting lodge (2 bedrooms - large double with walk-in wardrobe and twin bedroom with little extra space). Lounge with sofa and two comfortable armchairs with TV on Sky SD with only the basic channels (recommend you bring chromecast or fire tv stick if you want to watch other than standard TV). Calor gas fired the oven and waterboiler which meant you got a big smell of gas every time the oven was attempted to be lit. Boiler was quite efficient though but stangely automatically came on in the evenings to heat the radiators (had to turn this off). Broadband was fast in the lodge but deteriorated quickly away from the router. Each lodge (there are two on site of owner's farm) has its own Wi-Fi. Kitchen is galley-style and quite tight to move around with fridge opening very close to cooker meaning there was one person only in the kitchen most times. Small table near kitchen and door for dining etc.. 4 Chairs and drop-leaf to cater for four but that would mean blocking entrance to kitchen. Decking area (also accessed by double patio doors from the liunge) around half the lodge with views up the valley (this lodge is off a dead-end single track road that at certain times of the day has more traffic than you would expect). Note there are three large steps in to the lodge entrance. Parking outside the lodge on shingle area leading to step down to paved patio are with table and four chairs. If you can't stand sheep this is not the place for you. How many ways can sheep says "baaa"? Bathroom - I've left this to last as it became quite hilarious. The floor creaks almost anywhere you stand which is not a lot of places as the bathroom is quite cramped; best of luck trying to visit quietly at night! The toilet is squashed between the basin and the wall and door to bathroom making it a bit of a squeeze if you are larger than average. For the price charged this is a good comfortable place to stay with decent equipment and friendly owners. However, for four adults it was debatable space wise.

  • "We were greeted warmly as we arrived and shown the lodge."

It was bright and comfortable with spectacular views. The kitchen had everything you needed. My only comment would be that you could do with an outdoor light that comes on as you approach. Perhaps even one you can turn off once you’re home, so as not to disturb anyone. The area is really dark, which is great for stargazing but not so good for seeing where you’re going when reversing in, or trying to get to the front door. We loved the area and the lodge and will hopefully be returning.
