  • "It was an amazing stay at The Forge!"

The house was clean, comfortable and well looked after, in a very nice, calm village. Would definitely recommend!

  • "We had a lovely break in the Forge."

It was spotlessly clean with great facilities. There was a very welcome welcome pack there for us on arrival which was very thoughtful. The beds were comfy, the shower is fab and the kitchen is very well equipped. Instructions were clear and the wood burning stove was easy to light and warned us up after a rainy day. There is a wee yard you can barbecue in if you need and a park just across the road makes up for the lack of garden. There are two pubs within east walking distance and Allendale itself is a great spot to explore the area from and is a lovely, quiet village. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the village or the property. If you pushed me for constructive feedback literally the only thing I can say is that it would be helpful if there were also some kitchen basics like olive oil and salt and pepper in the kitchen as some self catering properties have. But that was a minor inconvenience, the property literally has everything else…even a water bowl for the dog! We loved it and may well be back for a return visit. Thank you for a great stay.

  • "Another stay at The Forge."

A great area to explore with a toddler. The furthest we travelled away was to Killhope. The community is very welcoming and offer helpful suggestions of local walks and shops.

  • "We stayed at The Forge in Allendale and we not disappointed."

We parked a small camper van in the parking space provided with careful reversing. The house was spacious for 6 people and a dog. It was very clean, warm and comfortable. If it got too warm we turned all the individual radiators down or off. We would have loved to use the log burner but wasn’t necessary. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and as we ate in most evenings this was very welcomed. The beds were comfortable and the shower amazing after some long days walking. The pubs in the village were great for a pint or two and the locals were lovely. We used the local Indian take away and the once weekly wood-fired pizza van. Both of which were excellent quality and we would recommend. There is a lovely park opposite The Forge for children or a dog. The walk down to the river and back around to the village is right on the doorstep. We highly recommend a stay at The Forge in Allendale we had a great time.

Some of the longe furniture was a bit uncomfortable as was one of the beds but apart from that we were very happy with our stay. We would recommend the Forge to anyone. Richard.

  • "Overall a great cottage to spend a week."

Lovely and comfortable. However When we arrived it was raining and the drain at the back of the property was blocked so we had to walk through a large puddle to get to the door. It would also of been good to of been able to have more control over when the heating came on.

  • "Very well equipped, rather chilly as we were instructed to not turn up the heat - and it wasn't obvious how you could."

So the wood burner was a real boon in the evenings. Walking books and books about the area were much appreciated. The cottage is for up to six people and would be great if you have kids - and we enjoyed it - but it is not really a "cosy" cottage - with all the internal charm of a 60's new build. Also, the Venetian blinds. And for some inexplicable reason, the living room and kitchen doors has been removed, meaning that it was hard to keep the downstairs warm. Overall, an enjoyable week but you might want to note the the pubs don't serve food during the week.

  • "Perfect for our little group of three generations."

The Forge was spacious and well-equipped to cater for ourselves close to the quiet centre of Allendale Town. The kitchen was particularly well stocked with good quality cooking implements to cook a variety of meals. The local and independent Allendale Coop was stocked with an amazing range of ingredients and useful items. The people of the local area are proud of their produce and always so friendly. Bit of a backwater for a peaceful time exploring the nature and landscape, and learning about the lead mining heritage.

  • "The Forge at Allendale is a fantastic cottage to stay in."

Very spacious, warm with all the facilities you could possibly need. We all really enjoyed our stay here and loved the village and surrounding area. The only improvement I would suggest to make this accommodation 5+ star would be softer beds as my sister and I have issues with our back and arthritis and found the beds somewhat too hard for us. For anyone wishing to stay in Northumberland I would highly recommend this cottage.

The fittings and crockery were excellent. I would recommend The Forge to friends as an excellent base to explore the North Pennines.

  • "The property was warm and very clean with well equipped kitchen."

The few aspects that let it down for us were the beds being very uncomfortable, the parking space is truly only for a small car and the rooms tend to be quite dark inside due to the location. Allendale is a great place to stay however. We had no problem parking our car on the street and were able to safely store our bikes behind the house.

  • "Fantastic cottage."

Immaculate and with excellent cooking utensils etc. Everything provided for including dishwasher tablets. Beds comfy and the linen smelt lovely. My only criticism would be the water pressure. If some one was running any sort of water downstairs the water pressure in the bathroom failed. Also a mirror in every bedroom would be an advantage. However overall was very impressed and the village was lovely and people very friendly

Has everything you need.It was spotlessly clean. It's very cosy, but also loads of space. We usually have issues with the beds not being comfortable, these were lovely and comfortable. The walk to the shops, cafe, chemist and pubs is only a few minutes. We went on a motorbike and the parking inside the gate was perfect. Parking available on the road outside too. Lovely area, just a little drive to the beautiful roads and stunning views. Wifi, netflix, iron, hairdryer, heated airer, bath and shower. You couldn't ask for more!

It is also very convenient for local shops and pubs. But the off road parking space is very small and awkward to access, with a larger car it might be better to park on the road or in the square.
