Set in the beautiful countryside of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is Middlehope Cottage, a historic, whitewashed cottage offering a romantic retreat to Durham.

The cottage is believed to have been built in the mid-1600s as a barn or animal shelter using stone from the nearby site of Westgate Castle, which was the Pele Tower, hunting lodge and western gate of the Stanhope Park estate of the Prince Bishops of Durham.

Take in your scenic countryside surroundings as you park up outside of the property, before stepping into the welcoming open-plan living space, finding before you a wealth of wonderful, contemporary appliances to assist you in preparing home-cooked meals, a quaint dining table tucked next to the warming woodburning stove making a lovely spot to toast to your retreat, or make the most of your outdoor space and dine alfresco, with plenty of space for your canine companion to play too!

End your evenings snuggled up before the fire on the sofa beneath the characterful beams of the room, before taking the stairs up to discover the beautiful double bedroom, decorated in elegant blue and yellow tones, with an adjoining en-suite shower room where you can prepare for your day in style.

Explore the local area by foot, with plenty of natural wonder to be discovered, perfect for the outdoors lover, as well as a host of fantastic amenities close by; visit the pub in the local village of Westgate, with its own real ale brewery and exceptional, good value food, it makes a great spot to stop off after a day of rambling, with the long distance paths of Weardale Way and Pennine Journey both passing 50 meters from the front door of the cottage!

For even more amenities venture out to the nearby village of St John's Chapel where you will find a wider selection of pubs as well as cafés, a Post Office and a local shop, while Allendale also makes a popular tourist destination for its eateries and shops, as well as boasting romantic countryside and riverside walks.
