  • "We had a great holiday thank you."

It was a nice quiet spot and within a short walking distance to Brockhole activity centre with all the facilities they have to offer there and access to the lake/boat trips allowing for some car free days. The only thing I would have liked was a non-stick frying pan for cooking eggs! Otherwise, it was clean, comfortable, plenty of space and there were board games to play which we enjoyed. There is parking for one car in the designated space then a visitor space for a 2nd car which was great and we could always park in the visitor area so there was no worry about parking at the property. We would visit again, there was 5 of us (4 adults, one child) so we had plenty of room.

  • "We had a great week at Merewood Stables."

The house was extremely well equipped and very clean. The location is great with easy access by foot, bus, boat or car to all the main attractions around Windermere. Highly recommended.

  • "Pleasant , quiet but well situated cottage for getting around the S Lakes."

Very good access to Brockhole and it’s many activities for all ages . Tried several and enjoyed good food at the cafe. In the property we found door handles tended to be very stiff, especially the bathroom. (One of us got locked in). Also the washer dryer didn’t seem to get hot enough to dry clothes. We relied on the heated radiators rather a lot, even in warm weather. Granddaughter aged 11 said it was fabulous!

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at Merewood Stables and it did not disappoint, in fact there were brand new settees and new blinds in the lounge/dining area."

The property had everything we could possibly need for a very comfortable stay in the Lakes. We also loved the location, situated two minutes walk from Brockhole on foot. One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in. As I said last time, we look forward to returning.

  • "The door knob to the double bed room could be difficult to turn for a person with weak grip."

The double bedroom shower door was catching at the bottom. I was nervous about pulling, or pushing it open in case it shattered the glass. Otherwise this property is top dog to stay at !

Thank you for your feedback, to our knowledge we’ve not had this mentioned to us in the 20 years we’ve been letting the property, nether-the-less we will have the handle checked out to ensure there are no issues. As for the shower door it is a snug fit to ensure a decent seal from water. Thanks again for your kind words about the property and we are glad you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

  • "Our fourth visit to Merewood Stables."

It's become a home from home holiday for our family. It is a well equipped cottage, kept in great condition, with all that you need for whatever the weather outside holds. We love the fact we can walk out the door straight onto the hills and don't have to drive places everyday. Highly recommend Merewood Stables and the owners have always been very helpful.

Surprised to learn that there was an issue about cleanliness. All customers have my telephone number and had I known about this I would have had it rectified it as a matter of urgency. Apologies, nonetheless! If you could call me or email me details of the problem(s) I can ensure that this doesn’t happen again. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "We had such a lovely stay at Merewood Stables."

It was warm, the beds very comfy, the kitchen was very well equipped and it was thoughtful of the owners to leave us a few dishwasher and washing machine tablets. We have kids so having Brockhole across the road was amazing - the playground and nets were a godsend, and we caught the ferry from there up to Ambleside and down to Windermere one day. Great spot for a family holiday.

Thank you for your feedback. We strive to give our guests a memorable holiday. We have a policy of continually updating the property each winter. As you say, it’s a great location and having the multi activity Brockhole Centre close by is a huge bonus. Property Owner

This was the first one though where I can say the cottage was perfect in having everything you would need, in good quantity and good quality. Obviously the owners have not sought to cut corners. The location is also excellent. It is in the quiet of the countryside but not far from many of the Lake District attractions. The beds were very comfortable and gave both of us restful night's sleep.

  • "A very well equipped cottage with everything that we needed."

Very spacious and equally as nice as the photographs. Views of Windermere from the front door. My children enjoyed playing in the communal garden where they frequently spotted red squirrels. Having a private area for BBQs was good too, especially as we had lovely weather. It was helpful that the owner made direct contact via telephone and email before our visit so he could offer advice, answer questions etc. He also made it clear that we could contact him any time during our stay, not that we had to. The huge bonus of this cottage, particularly for those with children/teenagers is it’s proximity to Brockhole. We visited most days, it is a 2 minute walk away. It is also a 2 minute walk to a bus stop making visits to Grasmere, Ambleside, Keswick etc very easy for those who don’t want to drive. We would love to visit again.

Children love a day of hiking followed by frothy milk hot chocolate and we love being able to get muddy wet hiking clothes ready over night to go again for the next day. It's toasty warm, great views and plenty of walks on the door step that don't even require us driving anywhere. Kitchen is well kitted out.
