  • "The property was fabulous, especially the location."

    On arrival everywhere was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was very well equipped. The beds were super comfy. The lounge area was fine for the 4 of us (4 adults) but perhaps it would have been 'cosy' if there had been 6 adults. However, with TVs in every bedroom and the basement games room there is still plenty of space for everyone. Rania the host was superb. Very friendly and responsive to any communications and lovely touches, such as a welcoming hamper of Hawshead jams, relishes and fudge. Also great to have the use of a nearby Leisure Club (about 1.5 miles from house), especially on a rainy day! it has a gym, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi and a reasonable pool. One thing to note is that the lockers require your own padlocks, which we didn't have so we just left any valuables in the house. Also check pool times before going as sometimes closed due to swimming lessons. We all enjoyed our holiday at no 16 and would recommend it as an excellent place to stay if visiting the Lake District.

  • "We absolutely loved the location on the house."

    It couldn’t have been in a better location! The house itself was also great. It was just what we needed for our holiday. The only issues were that the crockery was not clean and ready to use. We had to wash before, which was a little annoying. We also were able to request a 2 cot beds and 1 high chair. On arrival there was only one cot with no mattress. We had to purchase one and are still awaiting reimbursement as promised from Sykes. The high chair was also not clean. It would have also been useful to have the swimming timetable, we didn’t realise times were so restricted and after getting ready and turning up for a swim we were turned away as there was no availability. Would have just been handy to know in advance.

  • "We spent a lovely week in this clean, well equipped and cosy property."

    It was exactly as listed and the welcome gift of local jams was a nice touch! The parking out front was a godsend and the small courtyard at the back was perfect to keep our bikes safe. Our young children were delighted with the PlayStation as it was a treat to unwind after a day out walking or cycling. The inclusion of the passes to the health club was also a bonus as we visited the pool several times. I would recommend this property.

  • "The house was absolutely beautiful, full of character, furnished with good quality items in keeping with the age and style."

    The location was excellent, within a very short walk of many shops and places to eat/drink. The ability to park on the front area is worth its weight in gold because other parking is very difficult to find. We have nothing but praise for the way Mrs Davis conducts her business and really cares about giving a wonderful experience to her guests.

    The provided parking was a real plus as parking in this area is limited .The relatively level walking to local facilities was a bonus as we had an elderly relative with us.The property itself had been refurbished to a high standard and included a fully equipped kitchen and was made really homely in its decor.Defiantly will visit again

  • "No16 was ideally located on a side street in Windermere."

    The main st was at the bottom of the road, but it was very quiet. A 20 minute walk down to Bowness-on-Windermere. Parking space fits a medium family size car. The house has good facilities, though just one shower. This didn’t cause us a problem though. Washing machine & tumble drier in an outhouse, just steps from the backdoor. Beds very comfortable, tv in all bedrooms and living room. Supplied with 2 keys which is handy when you’re with teenagers. Nice welcome pack of jams & fudge on our arrival. Owner super helpful.

    The house was beautiful and finished to a high spec. It was clean, warm & a pleasure to stay in. Beds were super comfy & bed linen felt very luxurious. Plenty of towels provided, good Wi-Fi signal & the lovely addition of a welcome basket. Parking for our one car was easy, and the owner Rania was very helpful and responsive on text. I literally have nothing negative to say or suggestions to improve - it was a truly beautiful house.

    The property was well maintained and very comfortable, with everything you could possibly need for a great stay. We were staying for a walking holiday and we had no problem washing and drying wet clothes, and the shower and bath were very very welcome after a long day on the fells - very good bathrooms. The beds were comfortable with nice linen and the living room and kitchen were very comfortable for our group of 4. Windemere has plenty to offer in terms of shops and restaurants, and we also travelled just up the road to Ambleside for other great restaurants. We also used the health club passes for swimming and sauna. I'd recommend this property to anyone - a lovely home from home.

  • "The location of this property was great."

    However we felt let down being one of the most expensive weeks of the year and it yet felt like ww were picking up the tail end of the summer usage. The equipment had been used and abused and we got the tail end. The dishwasher didn’t clean properly, could not read the dials on the cooker to tell what the temperature was, the shower leaked and we had blankets to sit on on the sofas which crumpled up and didn’t fit properly. I think for what was advertised as a luxury stay and for the price we paid it was a let down.

We have checked the property and everything seems up to our extremely high standards as shown by our excellent feedback normally left on our property.   • "A lovely house to rent in Bowness, central position, no problem parking,spotless bedding in all bedrooms, a really lovely rental."

    We had plenty of space for 6 adults on our weekend break. The owner was very obliging and easily contacted, it was my birthday and the owner left me some flowers with a gift card which was really lovely. Would recommend to anyone if wanting a central rental in Bowness, close to shops and restaurants, if you like walking it was about a mile to the lake which was no problem for us. We used the free pass for the health club but its quite dated and could do with an update, jacuzzi not working, this did not spoil our weekend as the rental is great!!

    Lovely inside and had good room size for a family. Small improvements = I would have larger bathrobe towels , and the fireplace is old fashioned for the feel and luxury of the cottage.Really liked the idea of the extra parking spaces in town and the leisure facilities.The kitchen is surprisingly large for a cottage and well organised.Same as the bedrooms.The cellar games room is a good idea and a fun way for children to have some of their own time.We would certainly stay again and look at the idea of using Sykes cottages again.

  • "We have had a really lovely New Year stay at No 16."

    It's location is perfect for access to shops, bars and restaurant. The house was easy to find, we managed to park both cars outside, then never used them again! Kitchen is very well equipped (brought our own champagne glasses) and we sat around in there on New Years Eve, eating, drinking and playing board games. Lots of hot water for baths etc and towels and toiletries provided. Excellent having 2 bathrooms for getting ready. Very comfy beds and plenty of storage, extra fridge freezer in basement. Mrs Davis very helpful with recommendations and advice beforehand and during our stay when we needed to contact her. We would love to come back !! Thank you !!

    A couple of small gripes in that the WiFi was pretty non-existent and worked for perhaps 5% of the time. I realise this is not necessarily the owners fault but booking a cottage that advertises this; it was something we expected to have some use of. Parking was also very difficult and I think it should be clear that the parking in front of the property is only really suitable for a small to medium car. My car was stuck out into the road. The extra parking permit is useful but was not what I expected to have to use. Several times throughout the week neighbours parked on double yellow lines opposite and therefore blocked us in. We had to try and find out who owned the different vehicles so we could get out of the drive. It's something we could have done without although again this is not the owners fault but it was frustrating. Property location is good though and right in the heart of Windermere.

  • "The house was fabulous, the location was perfect and we felt it was home from home."

    The beds were so comfortable and we loved the lounge. Just a couple of things we felt could of made this house perfect, the fridge didn't have a shelf in the door so nothing could stand up, like milk, wine etc. We had to use the basement fridge and going up and down those wooden stairs was a pain. Also there was no kitchen or toilet cleaner and no soap which we thought should be there for our convenience, so we had to go out and buy it all. There is only a little courtyard which did get the sun in the morning but we have two girls that love to be outside playing so we did miss a garden. Being so close to all the amenities helped so much and if it was sunny we just went out. These are just small things and overall we loved this house and would definitely come back and would highly recommend it. Thank you to the owner who was very lovely and helpful and left a lovely welcoming food package too.

Windermere Train Station 1.5 miles: Ambleside 5 miles; Kendal 7 miles.

The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and the Old Laundry theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells.
